Film Theory Vs. Realism
In the initial days of cinema, film theories tended to divide into two opposing views, Formalism
and Realism. Formalists believed the formal properties of cinema shaped the way films were made,
as well as our responses to them. For formalists, the challenge was to establish film as an
independent art form. They found their answer in films formal properties, which enable the
filmmaker to alter reality and create new worlds within the screen. Formalist filmmaking reached
its peak in 1920s with Sergei Eisenstein editing technique, and using intellectual montage with
startling effect. In contrast, Realist believed the importance of capturing and recording reality. This
is where they considered the essence of filmmaking lies. Formalists on the other hand can argue if
that were pure cinema then no more actors, no more story, no more sets, which is to say that in the
perfect aesthetic illusion of reality there is no more cinema (Bazin, Andre). I disagree, capturing
reality can still be an art style and Realism proves that and it s especially highlighted in the period
known as Italian Neorealism. Italian Neorealism was a hugely influential film movement. It sprung
from the aftermath of WWII and ended around 1951. Notably emerging from the magazine Cinema,
from a particular group of critics who were prevented from writing about politics. They switch to
cinema to rebel against the Italian film industry under Mussolini influences. One of the primary
goals of Italian Neorealism
The Death Of Mrs. Summers Injury Of Situational Anxiety...
1.The Defendant s behavior in the Tavern is the proximate cause of Mrs. Summers injury.
By shooting her husband, the Defendant is the proximate cause of Mrs. Summer s injury of
situational anxiety and psychological hysteria. In order to show that a defendant is the proximate
cause of a plaintiff s injuries, the plaintiff must show that there was a sufficiently close, actual, causal
connection between defendants conduct and the actual damage suffered by plaintiff. Rickstad v.
Holmberg, 456 P.2d 355 (Wash. 1969). There are two elements in displaying the casual connection.
First, plaintiff must show that the defendant s action is the cause in fact plaintiff s injury. Second,
plaintiff must show that the defendant is the legal cause of her ... Show more content on

Summers anxiety is a but for result from the trauma she experience in witnessing the shooting of her
husband. The second prong for causation, legal causation, considers the policy considerations of
how far the consequences of a defendant s acts should extend by considering if liability should
attach as a matter of law given the existence of cause in fact. Christen v. Lee, 780 P.2d 1307, 1313
(Wash. 1989). In considering public policy, it would be in the best interest of the public if shooting
someone at a Tavern attached as a matter of law due to the egregious nature of the crime. However,
plaintiff argues that this should be a matter for a jury to consider. Therefore, partial summary
judgment would not be proper.
2.As a result of the Defendant s Actions, Mrs. Summers has a medical injury that entitle her to
damages.
There is sufficient evidence of the final prong for damages under the claim for negligent infliction of
emotional distress. The court has held that in order for a plaintiff to show damages, he or she must
be susceptible to medical diagnosis and medical evidence that proves the casual link between the
observation at the scene and the subsequent emotional reaction. Hegel v. McMahon, 136 Wash. 2d
122 (Wash 1998). The emotional response must also be reasonable under the circumstances. Id.

In Hegel, the plaintiff displayed symptoms of nightmares,
Environmental Threats To The United States
There are many problems facing the world today. One of the biggest issues facing future state
leaders is the management of environmental threats to the United States land, water and air quality.
Combating pollution in our area will take more than picking up discarded trash from the sides of
our roadways; it means looking to the water and air, as well as the land. Davidson County in
Tennessee alone hosts approximately 2,500 total miles of streams. Of these, an astounding 350 miles
were placed on the Environmental Protection Agency s (EPA) list of impaired waters in 2009
meaning that pollutionhas altered properties of the water to the extent that it does not meet quality
standards and cannot meet its designated uses. Pollutants such as... Show more content on

Curbside Composting: The program caters to more than 5,000 commercial participants and many
thousands of domestic households. Compost items include food waste, used paper products and
garden clippings, all of which are transported to the Jepson Prairie Organics composting plant
where they are reduced to a rich compost material. This material is then used by farms and
vineyards as fertilizer to provide nutrients for plant life. This decreases the amount of trash in
landfills and also gives back to the farmers which produces food. This has already been adopted by
many cities across America and will continue to grow.

Ocean Cleanup: Founder and CEO of The Ocean Cleanup, Boyan Slat, announced that his
organization will be deploying a world first by next year the first system to safely remove plastic
waste from oceans. The structure he has designed will float, buffered along by the oceans
currents, and snare plastics and other debris, which will then be picked up via a conveyor belt. At
over 2,000 meters (6,561 feet), this debris trapping system will be the longest floating structure in
the ocean. The Ocean Cleanup plans to deploy the floating structure off the coast of Japan in early
2016, where it will be in operation for at least two
The Success of Stephanie Meyer Essay
I d never given much thought to how I would die, but dying in the place of someone I love seems
like a good way to go. Those are the famous words that started it all, The Twilight Saga
Phenomenon. The Twilight Saga consists of four novels: Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, and
Breaking Dawn. Stephanie Meyer, author of the popular saga, majored in English literature at
Brigham Young University. After graduating in 1997, Meyer chose to be a stay at home mother to
her three sons. The concept of the whole saga came to her in a dream one night. When she woke
up, she took a pen and paper and documented everything that occurred in her dream. She then based
all four novels on that dream because she had a gut feeling that it was going to make a great... Show

No one besides her sister knew that she was writing a novel, little known at the time, but the
masterpiece known as Twilight. Since Meyer is a mother of three, and is busy with her kids needs
and wants all day, she would take time late at night to work on writing her novel. And in three short
months, she completed Twilight, regardless of her insignificant amount of experience in writing. In
all four works, Bella Swan in the protagonist. The story is centered around her life. All four books
are written in her perspective. Meyer usually tends to write all her stories as first person
narratives, including books that are not related to the Twilight Saga like The Host. When Meyer
writes, she becomes completely engrossed in the characters. The main reason why she writes is
because of the characters she creates. She envisions them in her brain. She talks to them all day,
and they talk back. Coming up with the perfect names for the two main characters was a very
tough process. She wanted a name that was popular decades ago, but at the same time, she wanted
a name that was romantic for the vampire. Since Meyer grew up reading Charlotte Bronte and Jane
Austen, she used the characters Mr. Ferrars and Mr. Rochester from their works as an inspiration;
thus leading her to choose the name Edward. After coming up with the names for the twosome, and
was still in the process of creating their story, they would constantly talk to her. She heard their
voices all day, so Meyer would
Amazing Grace
Through the Parable of the Return of the Prodigal Son we see that the father in the story is God
and we are the son longing for forgiveness. You can compare Amazing Grace to the parable of The
Prodigal Son by comparing the verses to the son being found and seeing the grace of God. The
story of the Prodigal Son and the song Amazing Grace are both about recieving the grace of God
and asking for forgiveness. Grace is the free and unmerited gift of God s love, forgiveness, mercy,
and healing to any and all who turn to Him in faith in the name of Jesus. This concept of grace is
demonstrated in Jesus parable of The Lost Son and Newton s hymn, Amazing Grace . God gives us
endless mercy and forgiveness each and everyday. In the Parable of the Return of the Prodigal Son
the father forgives his son and accepts him back into his house even though the son disrespected his
father. But the father said to his... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When he came to his senses, he said, How many of my father s hired servants have food to spare,
and here I am starving to death! I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I
have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make
me like one of your hired servants. So he got up and went to his father. In these lines we see a
complete change of morals. The son admits to being a sinner and believes himself to not be
worthy of being called his son. Through wasting money on partying his spirit was broken by the
aftermath of his decisions. This change of mind caused him to adopt a new spirit and a new set
of morals. Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, And grace my fears reliev d; How precious did
that grace appear, The hour I first believ d! These lines of Amazing Grace show the changing of the
Prodigal Son into a believer. It shows him returning to his father with open arms and accepting
Analysis Of The Bonfire Of The Vanities
In the book, The Bonfire of the Vanities written by Tom Wolfe, Sherman McCoy is one of the
many characters that exhibit internal corruption. Thanks to his position at the very top of the
social pyramid, Sherman McCoy lives a sheltered life and possesses no knowledge about those
outside his very limited circle of influence. As a result, when confronted with a situation far
outside his insulated world, he panics, resulting in the destruction of himself and others. Sherman
s ridiculous belief that insulation is necessary for survival, his egoistic views as well as his greed
are the very things that lead to the death of his insulated lifestyle. One of the very first things
Wolfe points out about Sherman McCoy other than his ongoing affair is his tendency to only
associate himself with certain people, which was mainly with people of high status. On his way to
work, Sherman walks towards the taxies to take one to work. During the ride, he mentions being
told that If you want to live in New York, ... you ve got to insulate ... meaning insulate yourself
from those people [referring to the normal, non masterful breed of people] (54). Sherman s direct
correlation to his father and how he still travels to work by the subway, even as the chief executive
officerof Dunning Sponget Leach at the age of seventy one (54) shows the contrast between their
lives and how Sherman views that living a life where he did not have to associate himself with those
out of his breed (54) was essential for survival in New York City. Sherman getting lost during his
drive with Maria from the airport is a prime example of his lack knowledge of New York outside of
Manhattan. Deep into the Bronx, Sherman could no longer tell where he was going (83). His panic
only makes it worse as he is unable to drive out the area and keeps driving in circles. This shows
that his limited knowledge of the world around him are the root of his issues, since getting lost in
the Bronx was the first step to his spiral down to despair. One of Sherman McCoy s chief flaws is
his massive ego. This is shown throughout the book, where we see that he does not associate himself
with anyone other than those he works with, and even then, does so with those on his
Does General Haig Deserve to Be Remembered The Butcher of...
Field Marshall Sir Douglas Haig (19 June 1861 29 January 1928) was a senior commander in the
First World War (WWI), and perhaps one of the most notable figures in British Military history.
Although he served as the commander of the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) from 1915 to the
end of the war which was one of the greatest victories in Britain s militaryhistory the involvement
during the Battle of the Somme, lead him to become one of the most criticized Commanders in the
WWI. The Battle of the Somme is the battle with one of the highest casualties in Britain military
history, alongside with the highest single casualties in the whole history of British military.

General Haig was the commander of the BEF in the battle.

I m very bitter; always have been and always will be and everybody else that knew him. He lived
almost 50 kilometers behind the line and that s about as near as he got. I don t think he knew
what a trench was like. And they made him an Earl and gave him £100,000. I know what I d have
given him. The source has clearly showed how Haig treats his soldiers stay 50 kilometers away the
front line and giving commands when he is feeling good.

Alongside Fred, David Lloyd George, British Prime Minister during the First World War, writing
in his War Memoirs (1935) had mentioned that Haig was a second rate Commander in unparalleled
and unforeseen circumstances... He was not endowed with any of the elements of imagination and
vision ... And he certainly had none of that personal magnetism which has enabled great leaders of
men to inspire multitudes with courage, faith and a spirit of sacrifice ... He was incapable of
planning vast campaigns on the scale demanded on so immense a battlefield. Incapable and the lack
of kindness to his soldiers make him unavoidable to suit the battle of the Somme . Idealism perished
on the Somme. A.J.P.Taylor, a socialist historian, writing in a specialist history book, The First
World War, (1963), had also claimed that: The enthusiastic volunteers were enthusiastic no longer.
They had lost faith in their cause, in their leaders, in
