I. Background of the Project: (200 words)

Learning Resource Nook (LRN) TAG in Elizabeth ES, is a school


project that targets the inclusion of the Three Acts of Goodness as the
interior design to improve the established reading nook/center and which
helps to promote and sustain a culture of reading among learners and
gives them access to quality, relevant, and grade-level appropriate
teaching and learning reading materials. Particularly, this aims to cultivate
wisdom and compassion through the Three Acts of Goodness (Do Good
Deeds, Speak Good Words, and Think Good Thoughts) among learners,
teachers, and other stakeholders who will access the learning resource
nook/ center.

Reading is the foundation of all learning and knowledge. It is a


door that opens various opportunities. With access to different reading
resources, people can widen their knowledge and can gain information that
help them discover and unfold learning. Thus, improving established
reading nook/center and developing reading lounge are encouraged to
increase children’s access to different reading and learning material and to
catch children’s attention to promote fun reading. More importantly, the
context and space for learning must be as conducive as possible and
engaging to learners for a more enjoyable and productive learning
outcomes.

Moreover, to accentuate the essence of reading especially to the


pupils, as support and response to the goals and objectives of Department
of Education (DepEd) in strengthening its reading programs through the
implementation of DepEd Memorandum No. 173, s. 2019, titled “HAMON:
BAWAT BATA BUMABASA (3Bs Initiative) and its flagship program “Every
Child A Reader Program”, and “Bawat Bata Bumabasa” (3Bs Initiatives) to
support the thrust of the department to make every child a reader and
writer at his/her grade level, Elizabeth Elementary School needs this
project as a part of the TAG that aims to achieve that the school is
engaged in worthwhile learning that may lead them to develop functional
literacy skills, too. In addition, this project also adheres to the Schools
Division Office of Ilocos Norte’s goal to encourage schools to have a
functional library or learning

resource center which responds to one of the Education Agenda


(MATATAG: Bansang Makabata, Batang Makabansa) specifically to take
good care of learners by promoting learner well-being, inclusive education,
and a positive learning environment.

Since reading is the most essential skills that a child should


possess, construction of learning nook and reading lounge will provide
learners with a hazard-free space for reading. Exposure to various reading
and learning materials will be beneficial by enhancing their reading ability,
increasing their reading comprehension level, and making them functional
literate learners.

It is, therefore, projected that this Learning Resource Nook


Development (LRND) which improves the established school learning
resource reading nook/center in the school through beautification of its
physical structure such as repainting of walls and putting up of
bookshelves, desks/ industrial tables and chairs for the maximum utilization
of available reading materials which will pave way to positive result in
learners’ acquisition of literacy and numeracy skills to increase their
participation during academic performance and curricular activities.

II. Objectives of the project:

a. Improve established school learning resource center/ reading nook/


learners’ lounge in the school to provide conducive and hazard-free
space to develop their literacy and numeracy skills;
b. Promotes functional learning resource center/ library/ reading nook
with the TAG interior design;
c. Provides accessible and conducive space for resources to develop
the love and enjoyment in holistic learning; and
d. Intensify the advocacy for reading and the Three Acts of Goodness.

III. Significance and relevance of the project:

Do Good Deeds: Accommodates pupils, teachers, administrators, and


other benevolent stakeholders a conducive and learner-friendly space for
learning resource nook as an avenue to promote the enhancement and
enrichment of functional literacies which refers to the capacity of a person
to engage in all those activities in which literacy is required for effective
function of his or her group and community and also for enabling him or her
to continue to use reading, writing and calculation for his or her own and to
nurture a culture of reading which is prerequisite skill in all content areas.

Speak Good Words: Empowerment among the beneficiaries about the


practical skillset needed to read, write, and do numeracy for real-life
purposes, so they can function effectively in the community, and that the
project may fully satisfy its mission, vision, and goals. The interior design in
the (Learning Resource Nook) LRN serves as a promotion of the
representations and practice of the Three Acts of Goodness’ mission and
vision.

Think Good Thoughts: This implies that everyone has different literacy
skills and thoughts on literacies based on their perspective as it has
essentially become a necessity to be successful. While it has always been
beneficial to read and write, today’s culture has made it almost impossible
to get ahead without these abilities. So, this project expects everyone to be
geared with the necessary skills to be holistically and globally competitive
individuals engaging and following the Three Acts of Goodness as provided
with a conducive, enjoyable and hazard-free environment/ surrounding.

IV. Beneficiary of the project: Who are the participants of the project?
How many beneficiaries?

Learners, teachers, administrators, stakeholders, and the


members of the Parent-Teacher Association are the participants in the
realization of the said concrete project.

The beneficiaries of this project are the learners, teachers,


administrators, parents, PTA members, visitors, and stakeholders
estimated to be 200 individuals.
