THE COLLEGE PROFILE


A brief History of the college:

The foundation of the college was hosted by Prof. Late Birendra Mohan Acharya of Kalyani
B.T. College and Lt. Col. Dwijendinath Bhattacharyya, supreme authority of Bhagirathi
Silpashram, where two storied buildings was annexed to the Shilpashram to form Bhagirathi
Post Graduate Teachers‟ Training College affiliated under Calcutta University on and from 1 st
July 1971. After a short while it became affiliated to the University of Kalyani with changed
named as Bhagirathi College of Education.
The journey, multi-folded in nature, has seen a number of transformations since then. From its
cocooned shelter the college started to unfold its wings with blessings from Srimat Swami
Sachinandan Das Mohanta Maharajji who donated 36.5 decimal land for the betterment of the
educational purview of this rural belt and later, as a token of appreciation, the institution was
named after him as Shimurali Sachinandan College of Education(SSCE) on 1984. Thus the
college, on a eulogistic stance, always pays homage to that great heart.
The College stands today against all odds as a West Bengal Govt.-aided college, affiliated to
WBUTTEPA and recognised by NCTE, accredited by NAAC with Grade „A‟ in 2016.

Today SSCE, offers B.Ed course across eight different subjects in a full-fledged CCTV
covered campus with Wi-Fi connectivity. The fully automated digital library with RFID system
boasts to be a unique addition to the college‟s crown. A well-developed Language Laboratory
and trendy Virtual Classrooms adding glitters to the institution‟s profile on their own
credibility.

The college is run by the Principal Dr. Ahana Chakraborty([email protected]) and


under the guardianship of Sri Tibrajyoti Das, President of the Governing Body.The college
boast with qualified and dedicated teaching and non-teaching staff.

Due to the COVID situation, teachers have met periodically both on online platform and
offline procedures in the meeting of the different committee to discuss different academic and
administrative issues/problems in hand and exchange ideas. Students and teachers interact
freely with each other in regular classes, tutorial classes, teacher-student meetings and also
during counseling session and all of these sessions were held through online mode during this
time. The college has kept a good touch with the local secondary schools to understand the
progress and problems of secondary education and disseminate knowledge about modern
practices to them; although, these processes have also been carried out either over telephonic
conversations or through online meeting platforms. The college also encourages cultural
activities with enthusiastic participation from students and these programmes have organized
through the digital platforms helps to create a healthy atmosphere during the pandemic crisis
and also provides a framework for a better teaching- learning environment.

INFRASTRUCTURAL EXPANSION:
The college is located at latitude: N23˚2‟40.7832” and longitude: E88˚30‟33.3504”

RUSA funded Extension New Building


A horizontal extension has been constructed during the year 2019-2020 under the supervision
of PWD, Nadia construction division. This project is worth Rs. 97,42,228 which is funded by
RUSA. The construction is a G+1 in nature and has been completed within the estimated time.
But due to pandemic situation, the building has not yet been inaugurated.

Girls’ Hostel in-front of the Playground for Outdoor Games

Students play football, Cricket and Badminton in this sprawling ground, which is in front of the
Women Hostel.

Indoor Games Room


The college has witnessed many a Championship in Carrom and Table Tennis; but today no
fingers of sportsman enjoys the game due to lock down.
Halls:

Multipurpose Hall
The Multipurpose hall has a stage where cultural programs are held along with seminars.

Assembly Hall
The Assembly Hall congregates for Morning Prayers and holds annual Saraswati Puja. This
hall housed destitute people, during natural calamities.

Seminar Hall
The newly constructed building is awaiting inaugural program to hold seminars, lectures and
talks by eminent personalities.
Bhagirathi Complex: Conference Building, Canteen and Common Room
This building houses the conference with all modern facilities and amenities. Below the
conference is the canteen and boys‟ common room.

Sick Room
It is a privilege for our students to avail the sick room and enjoy the AC facilities when they
need the most.

Guest Room
Since our college is situated in the rural belt of Nadia, guest, teachers and eminent person have
the advantage of residency in times of necessity.
Library

The library is fully automated with KOHA software and provides Digital Library services
through D-Space. RFID system has also been installed to support the automated circulation
system. This facility is under round the clock CCTV surveillance. The collections can also be
searched through Web-OPAC which can also be accessible even through a smartphone via wi-
fi. The collection of the library is enriched with many text and reference books, various
national and international journals, magazines and newspapers encompassing different
parameters of teachers‟ Training Programme. The library has also got a subscription of UGC‟s
INFLIBNET N-LIST programme and through this facility one may access more than 6000
journals and 135000 e-books. The learning resource centre has a good collection of non-book
materials such as maps, CDs, DVDs etc. Internet facility and free wi-fi access enables the users
to access open source journals and databases. Reprographic facilities are available for users at
the library.

Language Laboratory

The language laboratory provides a number of advanced facilities in order to help a student to
learn a language in a more proficient manner. The main purpose of such facility is to involve
the pupils actively in the teaching-learning process by ensuring more practice that might not be
possible in a traditional classroom.There are three main characteristics of a language
laboratory: Self-pacing (students can monitor their progress and work accordingly), Retracing:
practice more to achieve desired level, Library Operation: students are at liberty to choose their
intended subject/ topic and can monitor and correct their errors/ flaws as required. Such
operations are individualistic in nature. The language laboratory of the college is computer
assisted and is equipped with 40 student‟s booths and a master console for the teacher.

Social Science Laboratory


Social science laboratory acts as an activity centre for pupil-teachers as it combines academic
experience with worldly knowledge, making learning effective and lively. The Social Science
Laboratory is well furnished with a seating capacity of 30-35 students sharing history,
geography, education periodically focusing on spatial skills.
Life Science Laboratory

The laboratory is well-equipped with different instruments, specimens and student-made TLMs
that have given them opportunities to deal with the practical knowledge with a fearful teaching
aid of the skeleton.

Physical Science Laboratory

Both subjects including Physics and chemistry are experimented in the Physical Science
laboratory, having adequate precautions to avoid accidents.

Mathematics Laboratory

A laboratory for mathematics at B.Ed. standard provides a boundary where one may found a
group of games, puzzles, teaching aids and alternative materials for polishing off teaching
activities. These are meant to be used each by the teacher-trainee by their own and along with
the teacher to explore different shades of teaching-learning situations.
ICT Laboratory

The Laboratory is designed to provide digital access to students across subjects for improved
academic performance in the relevant field. The set-up is both unique and holistic in nature that
enables the instructors to be more creative and have a greater ownership of the process of
teaching. The project based learning approach using latest technologies aims to meet the goal
of achieving specific learning objectives related to B.Ed. curriculum. The facilities include:
Round the clock internet connectivity, Desktops with latest upgrades and Overhead projector .

Art & Craft Resource Centre

Here the students spread their creative talents and their productive work is displayed in the
corridor, office and the parlour of the college.
Cultural Programme

The college host many cultural programs like observation of National Event, cultural fests and
debates & dramas with colourful dance and songs. Even National Seminars are held in the
multipurpose hall. To name a few-
