Ethical Issues In District 9
District 9 is a movie about aliens that come to Earth; they settle in Johannesburg till they are
made to relocate to another area and troubles arise from there. The movie was released in 2009
and the time period of the movie is the year 1982 and 2009. It was a period of time when South
Africa was going through a lot of problems and these problems are reflected in District 9. Racial
discrimination, segregation, xenophobia and others are real life issues and moral issues reflected in
the film.

The most obvious issue reflected in the movie is xenophobia and the treatment of these foreign
refugees. In the movie, the alien spacecraft is stranded in Johannesburg and the government takes
care of the malnourish aliens onboard. In real life South Africa, Zimbabweans, refugees seeking
refuge flood the country. These refugees face discrimination by the locals and they are treated like
dirt. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Apartheid was a social and political policy by the white minority government. Everyone was
segregated by their racial groups, public facilities were exclusive to each race and they all lived
far apart from each other. The movie was inspired by the apartheid regime in South Africa and is
reflected in the movie. The aliens take refuge in the slums and then these slums are walled up and
this is the only proper place for them to live in. The aliens live in separate areas from the humans,
which is parallel to the apartheid policies in real life. There are signs everywhere in District Nine
s Johannesburg which tells the aliens that the facilities in the city is for human usage and they
cannot loiter and aren t welcome in shops. This is all true in real life South Africa. Black majority
live in designated areas and public facilities have signs on them stating who can use it. Benches,
beaches and toilets have signs on them that say blacks only showing that only black people can use
Theme Of Bravery In Life Is Beautiful
How does Benigni show the significance of bravery in the film Life is Beautiful?
Life is Beautiful (1997), an Italian comedic drama set in 1939, tells the tale of Guido, a young
Jewish man living during the time of World War II, the film follows Guido and his family; from
when they were happy living freely to when they are forced to work unfairly in concentration camps.
Directed by Roberto Benigni, also known for Pinocchio (2002), Life is Beautiful portrays many
important themes and messages to the audience. Benigni shows the importance of bravery in the film
, through cinematic techniques including camera angles, lighting, and sound.

Bravery is likely the most conspicuous theme in Life is Beautiful. It is exhibited throughout the
whole film by the cinematography directed by Roberto Benigni. Cinematography includes the
different angles, camera movement and editing. Camera angles can affect the audience in many
ways. The most common camera angle used in this film is the wide shot as it shows the characters
completely not only the main character but all the characters in the foreground and background. To
portray the theme of the importance of bravery, Benigni uses a mid shot to grasp the attention of
the audience which focuses in on Guido and a German Nazi Officer. In this scene, Guido offers to
translate the rules of the concentration camp as he claims to speak German, however Guido only
wishes to translate the rules for his son making the rules seem like the rules of
The Digital Poorhouse Analysis
The event I attended was Virginia Eubanks lecture on The Digital Poorhouse: Regulating the Poor in
the 21st Century. Eubanks lecture emphasized how new data systems regulate and disciple the poor
in the United States. She conducted research in the YWCA community which is a home to many
poor and working class women. In addition, her lecture began by discussing the history of the
Poorhouse and then further discussed how technologydisadvantages the homeless/poor. To begin
with, one important thing I have learned through this experience is that there is a digital divide that
exists within our society. There is a group of people who are the technology haves , and these people
have laptops, iPhone and access to technology. On the other hand,
Analysis Of Faith And Doubt At Ground Zero
In the documentary Faith and Doubt at Ground Zero, a number of people were interviewed about
how their religious beliefs or non beliefs, were challenged since the events of September 11th. The
interviews with priests, rabbis, family members of victims, survivors, lay people, atheists and
agnostics, this documentary explores how Americans spiritual lives may have changed since the
event. When a tragic event happens, people would either grow closerto god or outgrow god. To those
people who do not believe in a god, these actions will just prove their beliefs. In the beginning of the
film, people immediately started to questionGod. Some of them started to question why would a
god so mighty approve this kind of actions. Dr. Michael Brescia, who is a physician who saw
pictures of people jumping off the building, I wonder how many of them thought if there was a
God. And if there was a God, why me? Why this? And where am I going to go? This kind of
questions always come up when something catastrophic happens. Others, however, did not ask
any questions and just accepted what has happened. Kim Coleman, who lost her daughter said,
God knows something I don t, God knows best and knows better than we do. There were also a
couple of people who were not so sure what to think of god anymore. Rev. Joseph Griesedieck, a
priest who volunteered at Ground Zero said, the face of God was a blank slate for me. God couldn
t be counted on in the way that I thought God could be
Chaos in Jurassic Park
Chaos in Jurassic Park

Chaos theory proves that unpredictability is built into our daily lives. (Crichton 313). Ian Malcolm
s words resolve the book, Jurassic Park, in a very absolute way. Throughout the book, Malcolm,
spoke about chaos theory and his self proclaimed Malcolm Effect to explain his reasoning in his
predictions. Ian Malcolm had predicted the demise of Jurassic Park even before its opening, as well
as its multiple problems and difficulties. Malcolm s theory is evidenced countless times throughout
the story of Jurassic Park; dinosaurs are breeding, dinosaurs are escaping, and systems fail.
They re breeding. (Crichton 164). Ian Malcolm had predicted that the dinosaurs of Jurassic Park
were, in fact, breeding. This was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The point occurred when Nedry shut down power to certain areas of the park. The dinosaurs
realized that their once electrified containments were no longer an impenetrable barrier, but merely
cables that could be torn down and trampled. Once the dinosaurs were able to escape, pandemonium
stepped in. Animals that were too dangerous to let roam freely, such as the velociraptors, or simply
not to mingle with one another, the tyrannosaurus rex with the hadrosaurs, were doing exactly what
they were not supposed to do. Not only did they harm one another, but they also harmed the visitors
and workers of Jurassic Park. Towards the end of the book, after the power was restored, the
interaction of the animals with one another took on a more positive role. Grant had stated, The
animals are mingling with each other. Populations reaching equilibriums true Jurassic equilibrium.
(Crichton 385). At this point, Jurassic Park truly became Jurassic Park, but sadly, not one that could
ever be opened to the world.
Flaws in the system will now become severe. (Crichton 269) Ian Malcolm had predicted that the
systems of Jurassic Park would fail from the very beginning. Problems with them were arising at all
times. When Malcolm inquired if the system was working well and was absent of problems, Arnold

Boston Massacre Analysis
The British Side of the Boston Massacre
Mykenzie Cotiaux

Between the hours of nine and ten o clock, being in my master s house, was alarmed by the cry of
fire, I ran down as far as the town house, and then heard that the soldiers and the inhabitants were
fighting in the alley... I then left them and went to King street. I then saw a party of soldiers loading
their muskets about the Custom house door, after which they all shouldered. I heard some of the
inhabitants cry out, heave no snow balls , others cried they dare not fire . The Boston massacre has
been no massacre it was propaganda. The incident that happened March 5th, 1770 in the streets of
Boston only killed five people and had six people with non fatal injuries. There were ... Show more

The Boston massacre was played out to be such a big thing, although it was a misunderstanding. It
was the colonists who were asking for there to be trouble. If the colonists were not throwing things
and beating the British then the gun would have never gone off. The colonists were protesting
against someone who was not doing anything wrong. Why were the colonists protesting something
that we still have today? Before the colonists were threatening the British the British was just doing
their jobs. The colonists were the ones threatening the British so why were the British put in jail for
it? In conclusion, 8 British soldiers were arrested for using self defense. If the colonists were not
protesting no shots would have been fired so the Boston massacre would have never happened, in
the end the Boston massacre was just propaganda towards the
Religions Around The World Today
There are many different religions around the world today. We all have our own opinions on
whether or not we believe in God or not, but what makes every religion different from the other
could be because of traditions or rituals, the way we dress based on our religion or the place we
worship. However the one thing we all have in common is we turn to religionto guide us in one way
or another for greater depth or to set us down the right path in life. Firstly there is Hinduism.
Hindus believe that their position in today s society was determined by the things they did or
participated in, in their previous lives. For example, if a person s behaviour in the past was very
negative instead of positive, Hindus believe that those people will have deep hardships or
problems because of that. Every Hindus main goal in life is to escape from all negativity so it
does not ever come back to them. They also believe that only the soul matters and rebirths are
possible after their souls are at rest. Hindus often worship at home or do Temple worship.
Worshippers in this religion repeat the names of their favourite Gods and Goddesses, and repeat
mantras. Things such as water, fruit and flowers are offered to God. Secondly there is Judaism. There
are three types of Jews. Orthodox (Traditional), Conservative (Middle Ground), Reform (Modern).
Jews have a daily prayer that they recite in their home for their monotheism (one God) and presence
of God in their home. Places of worship for Jews
Finding The Teachers Perception About The Giftedness...
III. Methods 7 My goal is to discover the teachers perception about the giftedness in early
childhood. I will conduct a qualitative study to comprehend how preservice early childhood
education teachers identify giftedness in early years and how they construct their perceptions
during their student teaching experience. Applying qualitative research will enable me to grasp
array of perspectives and multiple interpretations of the individuals regarding the issue I am
investigating (Glesne, 1999). Researcher Reflexivity Everything started when I realized my
misconception about one of my students. Let s start from the beginning of my short but eye
opening teaching career. It was seven years ago, when I started working as a kindergarten teacher
in a public elementary school in my country, Turkey. I had several internship experiences for four
semesters in different settings such as in a kindergarten, a preschool, and a Montessori classroom
during my bachelor degree, I finally had my own classroom that I can mold and educate my
students based on my paradigms. Even without knowing the paradigms as much as I comprehend
right now, by just knowing the eminent child development theorist and their theories, I always
believed that every second of child s life can be utilized as a teaching moment to help them to
construct their knowledge. Therefore, most of the activities I created were coming from my students
interest. Even though I had a little bit crowded classroom, in which I had
Leslie Marmon Silko Ceremony Analysis
Silko s Power in Writing Leslie Marmon Silko, the author of Ceremony, is a significant writer
who left a great impact on readers through her literature. The purpose of her literature is not to
leave people with tears and goose bumps but rather to show her own understanding of the world
she lives in. She claims, This place I am from is everything I am as a writer and a human being
(Gish). It is very hard to argue against her claims because her literature, especially Ceremony, is
extremely powerful and includes many of her Native American traditions. Silko s understanding of
herself and of where she came from can be an inspiration not only to the people who are closest to
her but also to readers such as myself who come from different backgrounds... Show more content on

Gish had already read multiple of Silko s writings by the time Ceremony came out. He knew
what she was about and by that time he was a full supporter of her literature. Gish admits that his
introduction to Silko in many ways changed my life (Gish). We can all agree that her writing
obviously had a magnificent impact on his life. He understood her; through her writing Gish
experienced a friendship with Silko like no other. His inspiration came from the settings in which
Silko s stories took place. Her literature often takes place at her home in New Mexico. She has a
very strong relationship with her home so writing about it is natural. For Gish it is almost as if
he is looking back at flashbacks of his life when he reads Silko s literature. Many of the settings
that are included in Silko s literature are are very familiar to Gish because he has been there at
some point in his life or at least has heard of them. Through her stories Gish was inspired and so
he began writing his own stories. He even used her ideas in class when teaching his students at
University of New Mexico. Silko s impact on Gish was certainly a great one. Much of his lectures
and writing was based on similar principals as hers. If Gish had never been introduced to her
writing, his career would likely have gone in a different direction. He had his own ideas and goals
and with Silko s inspiration he
Classical Conditioning
One of the first methods of describing a phobia was classical conditioning, most famously known by
Pavlov s dog experiment. In that study, dogs were trained to correlate a light with the coming of
food. When they say the light come on, their salivary glands began to salivate, indicating that the dog
was waiting and thinking about the food that he knew would
1
appear shortly. But this study did not train the dogs to fear the light, like some others do. For
example, if every time a rat is presented with a low buzzing noise, it is electrically shocked,
eventually, when it hears the noise alone (with no shock), it will exhibit symptoms of fear. (8)
These kinds of studies used to make scientist think that a phobia came from and event that happened
in one s past, but this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, some people who have Aerophobia, the fear of flying, have never been on a plane, so
there would be no way for them to have a scarring experience with one. Other theories believe that
phobias originate from an evolutionary need to avoid danger and survive.
As scientist Martin Seligman put it, people may be inherently prepared to learn certain phobias.
Those who avoided obvious danger, such as snakes, heights, lightning, or disease, most likely
survived the longest, and the others died off. Some scientists, such as LeDoux, believe that
preparedness and the ease of conditioning are the result of certain preexisting neurological
connections that exist evolutionarily. (12) Wild rhesus monkeys fear snakes while domestic rhesus,
unless conditioned, do not. In the experiment, domestic rhesus monkeys are shown a video in which
peers respond fearfully to both snakes (fear relevant stimuli) and flowers
(neutral stimuli). When exposed to the two stimuli, the monkeys all exhibited a fear response to
snakes but not to flowers. (12) This shows that there must have been a preexistent link in the brains
of the monkeys. A phobia is clinically defined as and irrational fear, but these kinds
Sherlock Holmes
Sherlock Holmes is known as the World s Greatest Detective; however, Irene Alder may just be the
only person, male or female, that has ever defeated Holmes thinking machine of a brain. In his short
story, A Scandal in Bohemia, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle challenges traditional social perceptions and
gender assumptions toward British women in the 1890 s by creating tension with his
characterization of female antagonist, Irene Alder, as a powerful intellectual equal to male
protagonist, Sherlock Holmes. Irene, or The Woman, as she is known in future Sherlock Holmes
stories, is a surprisingly full character with a quick wit and amazingly sharp manipulation skills.
She is characterized as a elegant and talented opera singer from New Jersey living... Show more

She is a powerful, intelligent Victorian woman, with a mind of her own, which is unusual for the
times. Irene Alder torments Sherlock s brilliant mind in subsequent Sherlock Holmes stories. He
never really recovers from being out witted and manipulated by a woman with superior intellect to
his own. Eventually, Sherlock Holmes asks the King only for her photograph as payment for his
services. He holds her in a place of reverence, as an intellectual equal. John Watson remarks, To
Sherlock Holmes she is always THE woman. I have seldom heard him mention her under any other
name, (pg. 1). She was a triple threat to the male gender, a rare combination of unforgettable beauty,
undeniable grace and unsurpassed intellect. Irene Alder is a woman to remember: strong, bright and

Gender Role And Gender Roles
Gender roles
My role as a young woman is to be as independent as I can be. Also as a young women I want to
make responsible decisions that will only impact my life in positive and proactive ways. In my
household as a young women I do not have a certain gender role to follow. In my household
everyone helps inside and outside, doesn t matter if you are a woman or a man. For an example my
dad has polio in one of his legs, he is not capable of pushing a lawn mower, so I stood up and
mowed the yard. Some people would say don t you have any brothers that can take that role on,
yes, but where s the fun in that. Why do men have to mow the yard why can t a woman? I truly
enjoy mowing the yard, it allows me to clear my mind and do something I really like doing. The
first time I ever cut the grass was when I was around 14 years old, I saw my mom cutting the
grass and I said to myself if she can do then why can t I and every since that day I mow the yard
mostly every Saturday morning. Later on when the time comes and I become a wife with the
right man I am going to love my husband with all my heart and hopefully he loves me back. We
are going to be conformable enough with each other to talk to each other about anything and
everything. Also when I become a wife my role is going to be quite simple. My role as wife will
be to cook and clean, but my husband will at least have to help me out with the cleaning. If my
husband wants to be the best husband on earth then he will help me by doing some cooking as
well because I really don t know how to cook anything. The question that I ask myself till this very
day is why do women have to clean and cook, why can t it be half and half we share the household
workload. In an online article, Women Are Still Doing Most of the Homework, written by
Alexandra Sifferlin, claims, On an average day,19 percent of men did housework such as cleaning
or doing laundry compared with 49 percent of women. 42 percent of men did food preparation or
cleanup, compared with 68 percent of women (Sifferlin, 2014). When I read this piece of
information I was somewhat angry when I found out that women did most of the household work
while most men just sat around doing nothing. Well this is where I draw
Essay on Compare and Contrast Breast Feeding vs Bottle...
A plethora of questions and concerns arise upon confirmation of pregnancy; however, the decision
on whether to breastfeed or formula feed an infant seems to be one of the more crucial decisions.
Moms new to nursing a baby need all the information that they can get in order to help choose which
method of feeding is more suitable, because every mother wants what is best for their child. Unlike
formula feeding, the benefits of breastfeedingare substantial for both mother and baby. Moreover,
choosing to breastfeed will lead to brighter, happier, and healthier lives. Infantnutrition is vital for
growth and development. According to a Web page posted by KidsHealth, Breast milk contains
antibodies, lactose, protein, and fat..., which are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, it s free. Components such as nursing pads, nursing bras, and breast pumps are not
necessities and are completely optional. Therefore, no materials are required. Moms who choose
not to obtain these particular items will save hundreds, (even thousands) of dollars each year.
Nevertheless, formula feeding is highway robbery. Formula feeding requires materials such as
bottles, nipples, and sterilizing bags which are fundamental in order to ensure that such materials
are aseptic for the baby. KidsHealth voices that, During the first year of life, the cost of basic
formula can run about $1,500.00, depending on the brand of formula (KidsHealth). Who wouldn t
mind having an extra $1,500.00 in their bank account? If that wasn t enough, the United States
Department of Agriculture states that A minimum of $3.6 billion would be saved if breastfeeding
were increased from current levels (64 percent in hospital, 29 percent at 6 months) to those
recommended by the U.S. Surgeon General (75 and 50 percent) (USDA). Aware that breastfed
infants are collecting antibodies and other healthy nutrients so they are less likely to become sick,
formula fed infants are at jeopardy for developing illnesses. Frequent cases of illnesses can lead to
recurring doctor visits. Moreover, [recurring doctor visits can lead to an abundance of co pays and
prescriptions] (KidsHealth). As a result, moms pay more when they formula feed. Electing to
breastfeed is convenient.
