A process of doing Microbiological experiments
Hello, everyone. My name is Qi Shen. My discipline area is molecular biology. Today,
I’ll be describing the process of doing microbiological experiments. My talk will be
divided into 3 parts. First, I will describe this process. Next, I will explain the process
of each step in sequence. Finally, I will evaluate its importance in molecular biology.
I’ll be happy to take questions at the end of my presentation.
I’d like to start by the first part. Doing microbial experiments is one of the basic
methods of studying molecular biology. It means that, according to research
questions, artificially change or simulate the environment of microorganisms to make
certain situations happen. Then, of course, its purpose is to understand the
conclusion of the research question. Next, it also has two notable features,
purification and enhancement. First, purification. It can make microorganisms single
and specific. Second, enhance. It has the effect of strengthening the environment.
The last but most important thing is that this experiment must have the most
important equipment, the microbiology laboratory, which can effectively prevent
microbial contamination.
OK. Let’s now turn to the second part. I will show you how to design a
microbiological experiment. First, we should choose a specific theme. If you want to
do more formal research, you'd better learn extensively and deeply about the subject
before you start designing an experiment. Second, put forward a hypothesis.
Hypothesis is essentially a prediction of experimental results. The correct hypothesis
should be the hypothesis obtained through background investigations when selecting
experimental subjects. Third, make an experimental plan. Know the type of data you
want to collect in advance, and then plan how to collect it. The fourth is to carry out
experiments as planned. Fifth, collect information. And know how to evaluate data
outliers. Finally, analyze and summarize the data. You can draw conclusions about
your research question.
Now we'll move on to the last part, the importance of doing microbial experiments.
In my opinion, it is the source of the development of molecular biology theory.
Throughout its development history, the establishment and development of every
molecular biological theory is inseparable from experimental proof. After all, no
matter how reasonable or perfect the theory looks, scientific conclusions can only be
drawn after experimental verification. As Einstein said: "A contradictory experimental
result is enough to overthrow a theory." This sentence highly summarizes the key
position of experiment in the development of science.
Today, I briefly described the important process of my major molecular biology in
