The History Of The Dred Scott Vs. Sanford Case
Since the creation of baseball, the game has been America s favorite pastime. Baseball has
fostered connections throughout generations and has a rich history that goes beyond the surface
of the general game. Although slavery was no longer a concern during the peak of baseball, the
culturally iconic game was not always integrated. Some African Americans were allowed and able
to play on predominantly white teams, but unfortunately racism was still an issue for most. In
1857, the Dred Scott v. Sanford case, led by Chief Justice Roger B. Taney, resulted in a decision
that would change the nation. Dred Scott was a slave who had lived in the free state of Illinois and
the free territory of Wisconsin before moving back to the slave state of Missouri.1
College Students and Sub-culture
Sub cultures are something everyone is a part of in any society they live in. Everyone lives in some
kind of culture; everyone has an ethnic background, a social standing, possible political, moral, and
religious views and each of these items submits that person into multiple sub groups within their
culture. I, myself, am a part of numerous sub cultures.
Starting with the largest I am a human being; I live and function as a human and not as an animal
or plant. This seems a little farfetched to apply as a sub culture but it is a proven fact that even
some animal groups have communities and cultures of their own. Also, there are even some humans
who choose to live an animalistic lifestyle. In addition, I am Caucasian or white ... Show more

With this being said that means that I am also part of a popular sub culture within American
Universities. Although, U.S. News reported in 2012 that Communication Studies was not among the
top five most popular majors at Troy University. According to these statistics students whose choses
major is Communication Studies make up less than 7% of the student population (U.S. News). So
although I can identify with many in this sub culture within America I cannot relate with nearly as
many people of this sub culture at Troy University. I can still create relationships with college
students in general despite my major.
There are not many nonverbal factors to analyze for this sub culture but there are quite a few verbal
factors. College students have a language of their own. They know the struggles of class schedules,
club meetings, registration, living on a dime, and buying books dirt cheap. This verbal code often
disconnects college students from people similar to their age due to the fact that much of the
subjects to be spoken about are quite different. This is not to say that college students cannot
communicate with non college students but they often find it easier to relate to those who
understand their lingo, joys, struggles, and more.
The societal class that college attendees belong to has always had the stigma of being the haves of
society. In recent years; however, many who attend college come from
Essay On Cyberpunk
While science fiction was once primarily about science, it has since evolved into a far reaching field
that encompasses a variety of subgenres. ⦁cyberpunk: The cyberpunk genre emerged in the early
1980s; combining cybernetics and punk, the term was coined by author Bruce Bethke for his 1980
short story Cyberpunk. The time frame is usually near future and the settings are often dystopian in
nature and characterized by misery. Common themes in cyberpunk include advances in information
technology and especially the Internet, visually abstracted as cyberspace and artificial intelligence.
⦁Time travel: Time travel stories have antecedents in the 18th and 19th centuries. Time travel
continues to be a popular subject in modern science fiction, in print, movies, and television episodes
of Stargate SG1 and the BBC television series Doctor Who. ⦁Alternative history : Alternative history
stories are based on the premise that historical events might have turned out differently. These stories
may use time travel to change the past, or may simply set a story in a universe with a different
history from our own. ⦁Military SF: Military science fiction is set in the context of conflict between

Subsequently, humans ever expanding capitalist needs lead them to another planet where they are at
risk of making modernity s same mistakes. In Avatar, Cameron shows us an Eden like world,
untouched by destructive human qualities, almost a post nuclear refuge for people but with one
caveat. Humans must abandon their capitalist values and reinvent themselves to cohabitate
respectfully and harmoniously with their environment and each other. It is not innocent that
Cameron chose to call this world Pandora. It s a world representing richness and gifts in the form of
precious minerals, which will unleash the worst in humans as they seek to mine its sacred
Totalitarian Government In George Orwell s Big Brother Is...
In 1984, Big Brother Is Watching You. One can not take two steps without bumping into a poster of
a stern looking man seeming to stare into the soul of the viewer. Big Brother acts as a Godlike figure
to the citizens of Oceania, a super nation constantly at war with the two super nations. The
government of Oceania, the Party, keeps citizens in a vice like grip through constant surveillance and
laws placed on every aspect of human existence. The only loyalty allowed is to the Party. They
control the past, the present, and the future through its command over anything and everything. The
governmentset up in 1984 directly reflects that of a totalitarian government. Some of those features
are unification of the country, a control of the past... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The goal was to create a community in which an individual was no longer individual; but a part of
a whole. People had been together through shared culture, history, and violent emotions toward
those who threatened their community. Nicholas O Shaughnessy, author of Selling Hitler:
Propaganda and the Nazi Brand explains what is necessary to achieve unification by saying; For
to gain total solidarity a menacing enemy, who threatens the group with extinction, is truly
needed. And if it does not exist that enemy can be fabricated, as indeed it was (O Shaughnessy
59). O Shaughnessy then goes on to describe how the idea of a national family that gave
protection to an everyday Joe had been so appealing to the Germans. Similarly, the Party in 1984
uses the figure of Big Brother to serve as God to the citizens of Oceania.
The second feature of a totalitarian government is the ongoing attempts to erase the past. The Party
has the Ministry of Truth, which edits documents in order to falsify information in order to
simultaneously discredit what people believe to be factual and erase the past. If the Party keeps
things murky, can easily say whatever they want and people have no choice but to take what they
say as the truth. An example of the Party s power in this respect is Winton s thoughts about
addition. In the beginning when he had a sliver of free will in his rebellion, he believed that two
plus two equals four. But during the time

They had many loyal true friend customers that bought their clubs time and time again. A true
friend customer is loyal as well as profitable to the company and CGC s true friend customers
have been fading over the last several years and they are turning into butterflies or barnacles.
CGC is a top golf club developer but they are most well known for their driver the Big Bertha
series. If a golfer wants the best of each different type of club, they might only buy a CGC driver
or a putter. If a customer bought just a select few of clubs from CGC they would be considered a
butterfly to the company. If CGC would offer discounts on entire packages of clubs and maybe
even add free apparel, this may secure true friend relationships with customers like they had when
the company was first established. Another problem has occurred for CGC and that has to deal with
the rapid development of new clubs on the market. Producing new clubs at such a fast pace may
leave customers feeling uncertain of their clubs or other golf equipment that they have just
purchased recently from CGC.
Business Portfolio Analysis CGC still to this day remains a powerful and successful player in the
golf industry even though their sales have dropped 17% since 1998. The economy in the last
several years may be a large contributing factor to the decline in sales as well as golf becoming more
of a leisure sport.
Tom Sawyer Research Paper
The Adventures Of Tom Sawyer Essay We go on and on about our differences. But, you know,
our differences are less important than our similarities. People have a lot in common with one
another, whether they see that or not. That quote is what William Hall said about similarities and
differences. I realize that my best friend Anthony and I have a lot of similarities but we got more
differences than similarities. I know you re probably thinking then how are we best friends but that
s probably why we are best friend. In the book The Adventures Of Tom Sawyer the characters Tom
and Huck have similarities and differences and these are clearly seen in the story theme of
Adventures and friendship. Tom and Huck loves an adventure and that s one reason why they are

They both have a lot of fun when they are on an adventure but they also go through a lot of other
emotions during the process of it but they have similar emotions. When Tom and Huck goes on
adventure they re also similar because they seek that thrilling feeling. Tom and Huck has that one
of a kind type friendship because they remind me of my friendship with my friend Anthony. We
always looking for a adventure and it s crazy because during those adventures we become closer
that s why we are best friends. I think if Tom and Huck didn t go on adventures they wouldn t be
friends like they are now because adventure seeking is what makes them similar. It s always a nice
thing to know people have similarities but is it nice to know the differences? Tom and Huck have
a lot of similarities but they also have a lot differences because similarities always come with
differences. Huck is way more mature than Tom like for example when Tom and Huck witness the
murder in the book. Huck wanted to go help the person who got blamed for the killing right away
because he didn t kill
The Differences Of Genesis And Popol Vuh
It is important to believe in something. There are many fascinating, mysterious aspects of life
which cannot be revealed scientifically. Creation stories help us explain the unexplainable. There s
a big variety of them , different societies and different beliefs. Every culture provides its own
narration of the creation of the world, each unique but containing themes that are universal to many
civilizations. Genesis is the Hebrew people s idea of how it all began, how humans came to be.
Popol Vuhsums up the Mayan people s theory of the Earth s birth. Even though all that the gods in
both of the stories want is obedience, their attitude toward the people contrasts one another, which
leads to the idea that the Hebrew society values honesty... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They look down on humans, owing to the fact that the Gods are their creators. Surprisingly, that s
the only thing the Hebrew version of God and the Mayans vision of their creators have in
common. To put it briefly, God in Genesis is very forgiving, generous and fair. What s interesting
is that He seems to be giving humans a second chance by letting Noah and his family survive the
flood. Afterwards God promises Noah to not do anything that would harm the human race again I
will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh;
and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh (Applebee p.73). This only
demonstrates God s good intentions and his willingness to help. To change the topic, in Popol Vuh
the gods are extremely strict and demanding. They treat people poorly. The only reason they create
them is because they feel the need to be worshipped. They are very tough and punishing. By way of
contrast to Genesis, in the Popul Vuh, the story ends with the people remaining imperfect and
ignorant. There is no redemption for

The Invention Of The Electron Microscope By Ernst Ruska...
In the scientific community, there have been many advancements in the technologies and processes
used to help us understand the truth of the world around us. The invention of the electron
microscope by Ernst Ruska and Max Knoll in 1933 is just an example of one of these advancements.
There is another advancement that has roots over one hundred and sixty million years old, and that
is the green fluorescent protein(GFP). The fluorescence from GFP molecules has made it feasible to
look through a microscope at a spatial resolution higher than the diffraction limit. The green
fluorescent proteinwas first found in the Aequorea Victoria, or the crystal jellyfish. It is a
bioluminescent hydrozoan jellyfish, or hydromedusa (1). In the crystal jellyfish, there are two
proteins that are responsible for its bioluminescent, aequorin and GFP. They are both located in
the photo organs of the jellyfish. The jellyfish releases calcium ions which the aequorin binds to.
The process of binding gives off a blue light, which is then absorbed by the GFP. The blue light
absorbed is then converted into the green light that GFP is named for (2). At the moment there is
no apparent reason for the bioluminescence displayed by the Aequorea Victoria since it has not been
observed being used as a defense mechanism or as a signalling mechanism. Osamu Shimomura was
the first person to isolate the GFP. He started to study the bioluminescence of crystal jellyfish at
Princeton University in 1960 and he and
The Space Race Continuity And Change
Walking, that s the original mode of transportation. The only things that could be moved are the
things that can be carried and the furthest part of the world was the furthest part a human could
walk to. Then came sailboats and wheels and the world was drastically changed forever.
Everything changed. No one could walk on water so sailboats were the first things used to travel
the rest of the world. There was more land and more water than anyone man could walk to.
Sailboats helped with that. When someone arrives in those places how is he or she supposed to
carry everything? That is when the wheel became so important. People had carriages and wagons
and animals to pull those things which are on wheels. The entire world changed as transportation...

During the late 50s and early 60s the United States was falling behind in this race, but it wasn t
over. The next task was to be able to send groups of people into space together on one ship. This
initiated the Voskhod and Gemini programs, Voskhod in the Soviet Union and Gemini in the
United States. In the Soviets case there was not much changed from the Vostok craft except for
the fact that they could fit 2 or 3 people on the craft. The Soviet Union only did two manned
flights with the Voskhod program and left it; one flight in 64 and one in 65. The United States
had completely changed from their original Mercury program though. It had a new design and
the new design retained the conical, nickel alloy walls and fiberglass ablative heat shield of
Mercury, it also made use of new features such as translations control thrusters to alter orbit,
hydrogen/oxygen fuel cells to generate electricity, a radar system to allow rendezvous with other
craft, and avionics that could withstand depressurization (Universe Today). These missions
whether one manned or not all helped paved the way to the final lap in the race to space. The
United States and the Soviet Union each wanted to be the first to put a man on the moon; thus the
start of the Soyuz and Apollo programs. For the UNITED States and NASA the Apollo missions
started in 1961, but the first flight was in 1967 after they concluded with all the Gemini missions.
The first ever Apollo flight ended in tragedy with an electrical fire starting and the capsule was
destroyed killing the three people on board of the spacecraft. Many unmanned trials went about
until finally the second manned trial by NASA in December 1968 with the Apollo 8 flight. Unlike
Apollo 1, Apollo 8 was a huge
The Placebo Effect On Patients
The placebo effect is a widely known phenomenon where patients are given some form of dummy
medication in place of actual medication that produces the same effect as the real medication would
have. They intend to help stimulate areas of the brain that may prompt the release of chemicals such
as endorphins to aid in the relief of the symptom. Tests have shown that forms such as injections
psychologically perform better than pills, because of the slight painthat injections bring ( Freeman,
Shanna. How the PlaceboEffect Works. HowStuffWorks. HowStuffWorks.com, 13 Jan. 2009. Web.).
Because of the pain, people tend to believe that the medication would work better. Placebos can be

Is the Placebo Effect in Some People s Genes? Reuters. Thomson Reuters, 16 Apr. 2015. Web.). If a
placebo is effective, the brain releases certain chemicals that depend on the expected effect, such
as dopamine or endorphins, to counteract the symptoms or effects the patient may be feeling. In
theory, if a patient were to have higher endorphin levels in the brain, they too would have a
higher chance of the placebo effect taking place, depending on their symptom. Both endorphins
and dopamine can be released in cases to do with pain. According to the classical conditioning
theory (Lemoine, Patrick. Medscape Log In. Medscape Log In. Medscape, 9 Oct. 2015. Web.),
taking a pill provides a stimulus that can provoke a reaction from the brain. Different methods a
placebo can be taken or used range from pills and injection, to surgery. With research, placebo
injections showed to be more effective than orally ingested pills, possibly to do regarding the slight
pain that injections bring. The patient is more likely to believe the medication would work because
of the minor pain (Brynie, Faith. The Placebo Effect: How It Works. Psychology Today. Brain
Sense, 10 Jan. 2012. Web.). Generally, the expectation of the medication to work causes the effect to
take place, due to the brain influencing itself into releasing chemicals that may aid in symptom relief.
ABSTRACT
In the grid new renewable resources are added to extract more power. This adds more power
quality issues to grid connection. A Power quality problem is an occurrence manifested as a
nonstandard voltage, current or frequency that results in a failure or a mis operation of end user
equipment. This paper investigates the use of a static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) is
connected at a point of common coupling with Battery Energy Storage System(BESS)to overcome
of a power quality issues of a wind farm equipped with variable speed wind turbines driving Double
Fed Induction Generators (DFIG). A physical control scheme, including four control loops: ac
voltage, dc voltage, ac active current and ac reactive current controllers, is pre specified for the
STATCOM. A synthetic algorithm is proposed to embed these physical control loops in the output
feedback path. The simulation results demonstrated that under various system disturbances, the
proposed mode decoupling STATCOM is effective in regulating IG terminal voltage.

The Three Prisoners In The Myth Of The Cave
1.The Myth of the Cave is a parable that examines and tries to explain how one forms their
perception of the world surrounding them. There are three prisoners in the cave and they are
bound to one of the cave falls so that they can only face forward. These men have been imprisoned
in the cave since birth and they have never left the cave. Behind them there is a fire and a raised
walkway and the fire projects the shadows of the objects that pedestrians are carrying. The
prisoners believe that the shadows are reality because these are the only things they have
experienced. However, one prisoner is able to escape and views the real world outside of the cave.
At first he is blinded by the fire in the cave and realizes that the objects on
