Utilities and Municipal Government in Penticton
The municipal government of Penticton has worked hard to make it one of the most livable cities in
the Okanagan. The broad vision statement and growth plan of Penticton coupled with excellent use
of green space and its focus on creating a tourist friendly destination have attracted many new
residents to this forward thinking city.
Here is a brief overview of the role the municipal government plays in Penticton and what you can
expect if you choose to call this wonderful city home.

Autobiographical Memory
What did you have for breakfast today? What did you have for dinner this day a year ago? If
asked these questions, most people would be able to answer the first, but have trouble answering
the second accurately. Memory is not perfect, and it does not last forever. However, there are a
select few individuals that have an ability to recall specific autobiographical details from across
their lifetime, thus answering the second question would not be difficult at all. They are classified
as having an ability called highly superior autobiographical memory (HSAM). HSAM is a
relatively recent discovery, so there are a lot of questions surrounding the condition. However,
researchers have made progress in discovering the nature of HSAM, possible links... Show more

The amygdala, which is involved in emotional response, may play a part in social and self
referential processing. The amygdala likely adds emotional, social, and self relevant information to
autobiographical memories (Ally, Hussey Donahue, 2013). Perhaps then there is hyperactivity in
the amygdala system for HSAM patients. In addition, other regions of the brain may be involved
in HSAM. 6 out of 9 identified regions have size and shape differences in patients with HSAM
compared to patients with normal memory capabilities (LePort et al., 2012). Structural differences
could also include increased grey and white matter in other parts of the brain including the
hippocampus, which is involved in memory, compared to individuals with regular or poor memory
(Palombo et al., 2015). The structure of fibers in white matter may also cause greater efficiency in
information transfer between brain regions in individuals with HSAM (Mcgaugh LaPort, 2014).
Plainly, there are some neuroanatomical differences involved in the superior memory individuals
with HSAM
Analyzing The Book The Hunger Games
I chose the Inkheart book quote, Books have to be heavy because the whole world s inside them.
This quote can mean a lot of different things. For example, An atlas has pictures, and information
about the whole world inside the cover. Another way the whole world can be inside a book is by
having a fictionbook create a setting, and for the characters that could be a world for them. A way
that books can be heavy is if the book is very long, or the cover can be heavy and big.
A way that a book can have the whole world inside it is if you re reading a fiction book like The
Hunger Games. In the Hunger Games there is a world where there is chaos and killing. They have
characters highly developed technology, transportation, animals, and many more
Antarctica And Its Effects On Antarctica
Please note that you will have 4 minutes to recall the facts, and that you will be taking the test
immediately. The word Antarctica was shown in italics to make it clear that they were only
to be asked to recall information about Antarctica. Participants in the delayed condition were
given the same prompt except they were asked to predict their performance after a 30 min
delay: In thirty minutes you will be asked to recall as many facts about Antarctica as you can.
What percentage of the facts about Antarctica do you think you will be able to recall? Please
note that you will have 4 minutes to recall the facts, and that you will be taking the test in 30
minutes. Participants were instructed to answer the prompt by telling the experimenter a
number between 0 and 100. Participants in the immediate condition were then given a blank
sheet of paper and 4 minutes to recall as many facts about Antarctica as possible. Participants in
the 30 min delay condition were given the same test after a 30 min interval, which was filled
with a series of unrelated distractor tasks (e.g., learning and retrieving category exemplar pairs). It
is worth noting that participants were not informed of the nature of the distractor tasks before
making their predictions, a factor which may have influenced the accuracy of such predictions.
Given the purpose of the study, however, we felt it was more important to focus instructions on
the particular passage that was to be tested
The Performance Of Baseball Data And Analytics
Introduction
Statistics in baseball have always existed on a player and team basis, with some common statistics
being hits, runs, earned runs, runs batted in, home runs, etc. Since the publication of Bill James
abstract (1986), however, there has been large growth of interest in baseball data and analytics, and,
more specifically, a large growth of interest in a branch of baseball statistics known as sabermetrics.
This branch of statistics has been further spurred on by the publication of Moneyball (Lewis, 2003),
and even more so by the movie debut of Moneyball in 2011. Sabermetrics uses baseball s common
statistics and creates a statistic that more efficiently determines the performance of baseball
players. However, there is still some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, if two teams are versing one another and one pitcher has an ERA of 1 and the other
an ERA of 6, the pitcher with an ERA of 1 may seem more likely to give up less earned runs, and
thus more likely to win the game. An author in the Society for American Baseball Research
(SABR) journal, found this notion of ERA to be true as he found ERA to be a statistically
significant predictor of team wins for National League MLB teams (Ault). Joe Watson (2011), a
reporter for the sports news site bleacherreport, claims that ERA is the supreme statistic for
examining pitchers because it gives a better insight on a team s probability to win. Due to the
theoretical example and the different articles, the assumption is made that ERA is the best
predictor of a pitcher s ability to achieve a win. This assumption has led experts and laymen alike
to use ERA in their comparison of pitchers because the ultimate goal of any sports player is to
win. Due to the major use of ERA there is a driven importance to predict ERA and establish what
factors cause changes in it. CBSSports interviewed their staff experts to examine what was the best
statistical measure of pitchers. The majority stated that WHIP was the best measure of a pitcher s
actual performance (Snyder, M., Rosecrans, T., Perry, D. 2012). A number of medical articles as
well use WHIP to evaluate a pitcher s ability to assimilate back into the MLB after surgery (Gibson,

Mary Shelley s Use Of The Weather In Frankenstein
Mary Shelley s use of the elements in Frankenstein aid in developing different moods experienced
throughout the novel. Habitually describing details of the existing weather, she is able to relate it to
the emotions of her characters. Whether the conditions are malevolent or delightful, she never fails
to help the reader recognize the indication of an emotion or incident that will soon occur in the
story.Rain is the foremost component of spring, the season of hope, renewal, and (emotional)
awakening. When the creature notices the amiable warmth and light showers that satisfy the earth, it
is almost as if his feelings go through photosynthesis; they are boosted instantaneously. Similar to a
rebirth, Shelley uses the fresh spring... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This shows that meteorological conditions are able to affect a character s thoughts and alter their
feelings. As has been noted, Shelley accentuates the description of spring to express the hope and
renewal bestowed upon the creature by the exemplifications of the weather. It is common throughout
the novel that the existing weather reflects, and sharply influences, Victor s mood(s). For example,
the atmosphere surrounding the hut is cold and harsh when the creature concludes his tale and asks
Victor to construct his companion. This creates meaning in the text because much like these
inhospitable conditions, Victor s heart is cold blooded and calloused when it comes to the creature.
Shelley s reason behind the freezing cold temperature is not only to foreshadow Victor s response,
but to demonstrate the absence of color (warmth) and human sentimentality. In similar fashion, the
pleasant weather in the valley of Chamounix is able to alleviate some of the guilt ridden weight
placed upon Victor s shoulders from the outcome of Justine s trial. With clear skies as their
background, the pinnacles of the mountains and graceful flow of the waterfalls are effective in
establishing a sense of fearlessness within Victor; the power of the topography
How Identification Communication Strategies Affect The Ways
Introduction
The understanding of how individuals characteristics such as their communication styles affect the
ways in which people create and sustain their social/communication networks. Research on
organisational communication has focused on individual behavioural tendencies when they
communicate with others. These behavioural tendencies are used by organisations to maintain
positive relationships with their communities. Identification communication strategies in
organisational communication are necessary in modern organisations and frequent communication
leads individuals to feel that they are active participants in the organisation (Huff, Sproull, Kiesler,
1989, p. 1372). These strategies include; the common ground technique, identification through
aesthesis and the assumed or transcendent we . The purpose of this literature review is to examine
and explain how identification communication strategies can be used to create engagement with
their publics, which internal organisational communication issues can be identified from the
communication processes. This literature review will define organisational communication, explain
why organisational communication is essential to a company, take a close look at the often
overlooked area of internal communication, and detail the criteria for successful organisational
communication. It specifically explores identification communication strategies engagement with
women in organisation and explains how identifying
Sherman Alexie Indian Education
Throughout history, Native Americans have been discriminated against, stolen from, and forced into
appropriation, particularly in the education system. In the short story Indian Education, Sherman
Alexie describes his schooling from childhood to adolescence. Alexie s usage of formatting and
other literary devices develops the themes of starvation in acceptance, starvation in understanding,
and starvation in friendship. From the start of the short story, Alexie begins portraying the lack of
acceptance and friendship in his childhood. Sherman Alexie structures the story to create a timeline
for the reader. Beginning with the subheading First Grade evokes imagery of a young boy. The
description of this time in Alexie s life shows
Postpartum Depression After Childbirth
Depression is a common problem during and after pregnancy; about thirteen percent of pregnant
women and new mothers have depression (Women s Health, par. 2). According to the National
Institute of Mental Health, postpartum depression is defined as a mood disorder that can affect
women after childbirth (National Institute of Mental Health, par. 2). Even though the mothers that
suffer from postpartum depression often think it is their fault, postpartum depression can happen to
any mother. This is because it is a disorder that is out of their control, it is common among many
mothers and it is usually caused by a hormonal imbalance.
Depression after childbirth is called postpartum depression. Some women who have postpartum
depression might just think it is the baby blues . Anywhere from forty to eighty percent of new
mothers experience baby blues (BabyCenter Medical Advisory Board, par. 1). However, baby
blues typically go away within a few days or a week, and the symptoms are not as severe, and do
not need treatment. Symptoms of the baby blues include minor crying spells, trouble sleeping,
feeling overwhelmed, and/or loss of appetite. Postpartum depression symptoms last longer and are
more severe than baby blues, and can begin anytime within the first year after childbirth (Women s
Health, par. 11). However, in some rare cases ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are also things that can increase the likelihood of a mother getting depression during and
after pregnancy. The factors that can increase your risk of getting postpartum depression include
having a baby at a young age, marriage or money problems, a lack of support from family and
friends, if the mother had problems with a previous pregnancy or birth, and/or if there is a personal
or family history of depression or other mental illness (Women s Health, par.

Elie Wiesel Lose Humanity
Night Essay Over ten million people died during the Holocaust, and over six million of them
were Jewish. The book Night, is about Elie Wiesel, a Romanian child that was taken to a
concentration camp. In the camp, Wiesel and his dad are separated from his mom and sister. In
the book, many themes are used such as humanity. The prisoners slowly lose humanity in the
camp and it is necessary for them to survive incidents such as fighting for bread, risking their lives
for soup, and beating up people. On the train ride that the prisoners all take, some workers throw
small pieces of bread into the train car. The prisoners fight each other for some of it. An elderly
man goes and gets some but then gets attacked by his son. The elderly man says, I ve got... some
bread for you. The son is losing humanity because he is willing to attack his father for some bread.
When the son is crushing his father, he says, You re killing your father! (106). The son is even
willing to kill his own father for a scrap of bread. In the beginning of the book all Wiesel wants to
do is to stay with his father and not let him die, but during the... Show more content on

There were two cauldrons of soup left out, that were each half full. Wiesel states that We saw the
door of Block 37 open imperceptibly (66). A man came out of the block and went to the cauldrons.
When the man is at the foot of the cauldron, Wiesel says that Jealousy consumed us, burned us up
like straw and In our thoughts we were murdering him (67). These quotes are proof that the
prisoners have lost some humanity because they envy the man getting soup even though they know
he is going to die. After the man that tried to get the soup died, the author says In the afternoon we
went cheerfully to clear away the ruins (68). He says that because they have lost humanity because
they don t feel sorry for the man that died because it doesn t affect the prisoners if the man lived or

Sports In Sports
Introduction
The primary object of sports is, of course, exercise, but sports have a far greater impact on the
wellbeing of many besides physical health. Introducing new opportunities for youth, sports create
unbreakable bonds, build athletes characters, unite communities, and promote teamwork.
Undoubtedly, sports can positively impact many children of all ages. As children grow older and
become more athletic, parents and athletes may consider specializing in one sport to maximize the
athlete s chance of earning a scholarship for college; furthermore, almost every youth athlete,
myself included, dreams of becoming a professional athlete one day, so they will do anything to
achieve that goal. On the contrary, specializing in one sport may have the opposite effect.
Depriving themselves from diverse environments, specialized athletes are excluded from valuable
lessons that are beneficial for sports and life. Specializing in one sport today is not merely playing
one season of a sport, but specialization is intensely concentrating on one sport year round. For this
reason, athletes should play multiple sports because focusing on one sport all year does not produce
the same benefits as playing multiple sports throughout the year. Most athletes, including myself,
would probably agree that they love more than one sport, and if this is the case, then athletes should
participate in every sport they love. After all, the purpose of sports is not to earn money or to
become famous but to
