HEAT LOSS CALCULATION:

Heat is transferred from one body to another by radiation, convection
and conduction. For insulated bodies, heat transfer through conduction
equals to heat transfer by convection and radiation.

1 Enter orange boxes with input data.
2 Green boxes are output data calculated by template
3 Sheet 3 formulae are provided for ready reference

Template name: Calculation of pipeline or equipment insulation thickness

Template number: HCPE-MMP-0033
Purpose: This template calculates insulation thickness for pipeline or equiment.
Template is part of THE HANDBOOK OF CHEMICAL PROCESS ENGINEERING by Mihir M Patel

Instruction:
First fill in orange boxes. Mean thermal conductivity of various types of insulation is provided in
1 sheet 3.
2 Knowing pipe size, estimate and enter outside diameter of insulation do.
3 Find inside diameter di, matching to OD of pipe size by trial and error of point 2.
4 Finally, selected insulation thickness should be more than that calculated.
