The Characteristics Of Selfless In The Life Of Pat Tillman
The professional football player and soldier, Pat Tillman, was born on November 6, 1976, in
Fremont, California. As Tillman was attending Leland High School, he was very talented in
football, and led his team to a Central Coast Division I Football Championship. After high school,
Tillman moved on to playing at Arizona State University to win many awards, and get an undefeated
season. Following his college career, Tillman was drafted to the Arizona Cardinals. Tillman remained
selfless, determined, and loyal throughout his life to everyone around him, which is why we
remember him today. Pat Tillmancarried many characteristics that made him who he was, but his
selflessness was the most apparent characteristic about him. Tillman s selflessness become
apparent when he threw away a multi million dollar contract in the NFL just to serve for his
country in the army. This type of commitment for the country is hard to find in other people.
Another example that shows Tillman s selflessness was after a football game when he was asked
what his thoughts were on the game. He replied saying, I didn t play particularly well. The team
played great. This shows how Tillman really wasn t playing for the fame, or publicity, and credited
his team before himself. One last example of how selfless Tillman was selfless was when he never
took interviews with news reporters after he made the decision to join the army. This shows how
Tillman never wanted any attention after his decision, and just
A Geographical Place Through Visual And Narrative...
Food has the ability to transport you to other countries, different times, and completely new
experiences. The effectiveness of film to create a geographical place through visual and narrative
portrayal of food will be explored through the elaboration on three movies: Haute Cuisine,
Ratatouille, and Chocolat. The movies explored in this essay are all set in France and have
various levels of effectiveness when it comes to creating a sense of geographical place through
visual and narrative portrayal on film. While all these movies are set in France, some proved to be
more superior than others in terms of successfully portraying French food through film. The purpose
of this paper is to highlight the different levels of accomplishment on successfully portraying
location through visual and narrative portrayal of food. Each film was individually assessed under
the same visual and narrative context and was judged in terms of effectiveness in portrayal and
ability to transport the viewer.
Haute Cuisine is a French film following the journey of the French president s personal cook and
the ups and downs she faces while working in the Élysée palace. The movie is every food lover s
dream and does a remarkable job at making viewers salivate just from the sight of the haute French
cuisine. According to Hertweck (2014):
Although there are multiple reasons for a filmmaker to locate food and eating at the center of a
script, perhaps overlooked is the ability of these images to directly
Katy Perry s Cultural Appropriation Of Geishas
Perry s appropriator behavior revealed her ignorance. And because of this, her Geisha style
performance has deepened people s misunderstanding to the geishas. Katy Perry neglected the
origin meaning of geishas and alter the costumes unadvisedly, which expanded people s mix of
Chinese and Japanese culture. Furthermore, Katy Perry s behavior misleads people. Most of the
Westerns consider geishas as prostitutes because of the cultural difference. A typical example can
be seen in the conversation between O Reilly and Goldberg when they discussed Katy Perry s
appropriation. Goldberg said, a geisha is a woman who was subservient to men. A geisha tries to
please men and make them happy . However, it is not true. As Julia Layton states in his article...

In fact, the charges of cultural appropriation are being hurled at every corner on the Unite. States:
the art museum, the restaurant, the movie theater, the novel and, especially, the college campus.
(Bari). I have met some appreciation in my life. As Ellison s opinion, the majority of cultural
appropriation occurs during Halloween, when people think it s acceptable to don offensive dress.
Many put on blackface, or brownface, as part of their costumes. Others simply come up with
costumes meant to insult and demean another ethnicity or culture . During the last Halloween, I
met some white people who wore in ninja outfits in college during the Halloween. However, the
outfits they wore actually did not show the real meaning of ninja. They merely cosplayed the
characters of a Japanese animation named NARUTO. The real ninja is masked, and wear in black
and looks low key. Nonetheless, the costumes they wore in were more colorful and various. Those
people do not really understand the histories of ninja, the reason why they wore in ninja outfits was
simply, they thought it was interesting. Their behavior is similar to what Katy Perry has did. They
altered others cognition to ninja as well. They may not tend to do it, but it was no denying that they
appropriated from Japanese culture. Nowadays the phenomenon is common in Unite. States.
However, nothing could be the excuse of neglecting other cultures and adopting them in an
insensible manner. It is important to note that appreciation involves respect and value. It s okay to
find things beautiful. It s better to appreciate it and learn more about it. Especially before you put an
article of clothing on. Understanding the cultures sufficiently and avoiding appropriation are
imperative before applying it. Otherwise, one s ignorance would be revealed and shows rudeness. In
a word, the situation of cultural appropriation should be
The Food And Drug Administration Is A Regulatory Agency...
The Food and Drug Administration is a regulatory agency responsible for the public health of
American residents. The agency is located in Silver Springs, Maryland. The current extent of FDA
regulations reaches a wide variety of product groups such as electronic devices, cosmetics, foods,
biologics, tobacco, medical devices, and veterinary devices (US Food Drug Administration,
2016). The FDA is also accountable for the safety of the food supply, prescription drugs, and the
manufacturing of products such as tobacco (US Food Drug Administration, 2016). The FDA s
organization is divided into five offices: office of the commissioner, foods and veterinary
medicine, medical products and tobacco, global regulatory operations and policy, and operations
(FDA Organization, 2016). According to the FDA website, the President s 2016 fiscal year FDA
budget is 4.9 billion dollars (2016 FDA Budget Summary, 2016).
The FDA s origin did not begin as the federal consumer protection agency it is widely recognized
for being today. Prior to the FDA transforming into the present day agency, the FDA s emergence
can be traced back to the agricultural industry during the 1800 s (History, 2015). In fact, it was
Congress that enacted the FDCA (Food, Drugs, Cosmetics Act) of 1938 that created the modern day
FDA (Allen, 2013). Despite the FDA s passing of the tobacco law, the ongoing issues concerning the
under and over regulation of products, and the high number of drug recalls suggests that the
The Knights of Labor Essay
The Knights of Labor represented the pinnacle of the up lift labor movement. They, at one time, had
membership that numbered in the hundreds of thousands and nearly hit a million members. This
organization was unique in its time because it espoused many of the ideals we hold today as
statutory for an ethical and equitable society as well as employee and employer relationships. The
Knights of Labor did not begrudge industry or capitalism, moreover they were less of a concern than
the organization s larger goal to protect and promote social equity in labor and society, for the
common man. The organization was distinctive for is time. There were other labor unions, but the
Knights supported trade craftsmen, common laborers, and worked... Show more content on

Today, many of these basic concepts are taken as common practice in the workplace while others
are challenges still facing the employees of today. Child Labor laws were enacted within the 50
years following the knights. Fighting speculation and outlawing monopolistic practices was
addressed through the Sherman Anti Trust Act. The 8 hour workday and overtime was addressed
under the Fair Labor Standards Act. Additionally, the arbitration of disputes between labor and
management advocated by the Knights, has become a cornerstone of conflict resolution for labor
relations. The Knights however, viewed these gains as the end to a means. These gains would be
brought about through raising the working class by raising the intellectual, moral, and social life of
the worker (Budd, 2010). The transition to a collective behavior is at the root of uplift unionism,
and is the cornerstone of the Knights larger agenda. This concept enjoined the ideals of a fraternal
brotherhood and gave the organization an advantage in the ability to relate to the society of laborers
who felt oppressed at the hands of capitalists. It brought to those who joined, a sense of something
more than just a loose association of workers fighting

California became a part of America.
San Francisco Solano Mission was founded on July 4th, 1823 by Fr. Jose Altamira, Father
Altamira, which was the last mission in California. The mission got its name from St. Francis
Solano, missionary to the Peruvian Indians (Simondi). After the arrival of Father Altamira, he
decided to create a new mission north of San Francisco Bay. He selected the sight of the mission
with the approval of Governor Luis Arguello, but he did not ask the church for an official approval.
Also, he wanted to close down the mission at San Rafael and San Francisco because the Governor s
