Introduction
In the United States an infinity of media have been created, not only for their country
in particular, but branches that have expanded around the world and today are part
of the largest communication chains on the planet. Next, we will show a little or some
of the media through which information of all kinds is transmitted, from newspapers,
television programs, Internet pages, among others.
Newspapers
The Washington Post
It is the largest and oldest newspaper in Washington D. C., the capital of the United
States. It gained worldwide fame in the
early 1970s for its investigation of the
Watergate affair, led by Bob Woodward
and Carl Bernstein, which played an
important role in the downfall of Richard
Nixon as president. It is generally
considered one of the best American
newspapers.
The New York Times
A newspaper published in New York City and edited by Arthur Gregg Sulzberger, it
is distributed in the United States and many other countries. From its first Pulitzer
Prize in 1918 to 2020, the newspaper has won the Pulitzer Prize 130 times.
It is owned by The New York Times Company, which also owns 40 other
publications, including the International
New York Times and formerly the Boston
Globe. The paper is affectionately called
the Gray Lady and is considered by many
to be the quintessential U.S. daily
newspaper.
The Wall Street Journal
It is an American international English-language newspaper with a special emphasis
on business and economic news. It is published six days a week in New York by
Dow Jones & Company, a division of News Corp, along with the Journal's Asian and
European editions.
On this day in 1889, the first issue of The Wall Street Journal appeared in New York.
The paper was founded by Charles H. Dow of Dow Jones & Company, based on the
Evening Letter to the Customer that the company had been publishing since 1883.
The intention was to build on this experience to launch a newspaper focused on the
world of economics. The truthfulness and accuracy of the information it published
earned it immediate success and, from the 1930s onwards, it began to include in its
pages information from other news sectors. Today it is one of the most influential
newspapers in the world and, in addition to the North American edition, special
editions are published for Asia, Europe and Latin America.
Television Programs
CNN
Cable News Network is an American television network founded in 1980 by
entrepreneur Ted Turner. It is currently part of Time Warner. CNN was the first
television network to cover news 24 hours a day. Since its launch on June 1, 1980,
the network has expanded significantly, currently including 15 cable and satellite
television networks, twelve websites and two radio networks. CNN has also
launched several networks in other languages such as Spanish and Turkish.
CNN is currently the most watched news channel in the United States, followed by
Fox News Channel.
The Spanish-language channels are:
- CNN en Español
- CNN Latino
- CNN Chile
CNN also distributes radio programs in Spanish. In 1997 it was awarded the Prince
of Asturias Award for Communication and Humanities
ABC
American Broadcasting Company is one of the four largest commercial broadcast
television networks in the United States. Created in 1943 from the former NBC Blue
Network, ABC is now owned by The Walt Disney Company and is part of the Disney
ABC Television Group. The network's first broadcast on television was in 1948. The
network has contributed to the popular culture of the United States with its
programming.
Its founder was Edward John Noble, owner of Life Savers candy and the Rexall
drugstore chain. To complete the transfer of licenses for the stations, Noble had to
sell WMCA, his radio station in New York.
NBC News
It is the news division of the American television network National Broadcasting
Company (NBC). It first began broadcasting on February 21, 1940. Its flagship
program, NBC Nightly News, is broadcast from Studio 3B, located on the third floor
of NBC Studios in the GE Building, which is located in Rockefeller Center in
Midtown Manhattan in New York City. It currently obtains and achieves the highest
ratings for its morning and evening talk shows. The current president of NBC News
is Steve Capus.
Medios Online
The Daily Beast
It is an American news publication specializing in politics and entertainment. In a
2015 interview, former editor-in-chief John Avlon described the publication's editorial
focus: "We look for scoops, scandals and stories about secret worlds; we love to
take on bullies, bigots and hypocrites." In 2018, Avlon described its strengths as
"politics, pop culture and power."
American art
This is a brief guide to the history of American art, including painting, sculpture,
architecture, and contemporary art forms, since colonial times.
Colonial American Art
During the 17th and 18th centuries was largely limited to portraits and a few
landscape paintings. The few opportunities available to artists derived from contacts
with the colonial class. Important American colonial painters include:
- Benjamin West (1738-1820).
The "Father of American painting," active in England, where he influenced a number
of American artists, including John Copley, Gilbert Stuart, Allston Washington.
- John Singleton Copley (1738-1815)
Noted for his portraits of Boston and London and history paintings.
Arte del paisaje americano
An independent America offered more opportunities for everyone, including artists.
Although photography (invented in 1839) eventually replaced painting as a
chronicler of events and experiences, nineteenth-century America relied on painters
to record these things. Portraiture continued to be financially rewarding, but
American nature landscapes were also popular. The two most famous styles of
panoramic view painting, both highly romantic, were inspired by Thomas Cole
Hudson River School (c.1825-65) and its later offshoot Luminism.
Retrato americano y pintura de genero.
In addition to landscapes, American artists produced portraits and a variety of
subject or genre paintings. John Singer Sargent was the best portrait painter of the
period, while Winslow Homer was one of the leading subject painters. The great
European art movements of Impressionism and Post-Impressionism had some
followers in the United States, but realism remained the dominant style.
Graffiti Art
género comenzó a estancarse.
Conclusion
Finally we can see how the American culture has great television programs that
began as local, now are in most of the world, not only reporting what happens in
their nation, but also to publicize information from other parts of the planet. As for
art, it was innovating as time passed, they were creating new styles of paintings, in
different things, such as moving from a frame to a wall in the city, today graffiti for
those who carry it in a good way can be considered as urban art.
