Capturing Real Life in Jane Austen s Emma Essay
Capturing Real Life in Emma

Jane Austen deliberately confined herself to the realistic portrayal of a segment of contemporary
English life upper middle class society. The heroine, Emma Woodhouse, lives on her father s estate
at Hartfield which is in effect an adjunct of the village of Highbury in spite of its separate lawns and
shrubberies . Mr. Weston s estate of Randals is in the parish of Highbury, and Mr. Knightley s
Donwell Abbey is situated in the neighbouring parish, within comfortable walking distance. Here life
is concentrated within itself and separated from London which although only sixteen miles away
was much beyond...daily reach . Significantly, Emma has never visited London, never been to the
seaside, never visited ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cole s carriage horses returning from exercise, or a stray letter boy on an obstinate mule, were the
liveliest objects she could presume to expect; and when her eyes fell only on the butcher with his
tray, a tiny old woman travelling homewards from the shop with her full basket, two curs
quarrelling over a dirty bone, and a string of dawdling children round the baker s little bow window
eyeing the gingerbread, she knew she had no reason to complain, and was amused enough; quite
enough still to stand at the door .

In such a narrow society gossip helps to relieve the tedium. This gossip may be harmless Mr.
Frank Churchill s coming to visit his father and stepmother; speculation about Mr. Elton s fiancee,
Miss Augusta Hawkins of Bristol; excited accounts (becoming more and more exaggerated with
each telling) of Harriet s gallant rescue from the gypsies by Frank Churchill. However, gossip can
also be malicious, as we shall see when Emma confides in Frank Churchill her unfounded suspicion
that Jane Fairfax s pianoforte is a gift from a secret admirer, Mr. Dixon, husband of Jane s dearest
friend Miss Campbell.

Highbury society can also be unbearably claustrophobic. This is symbolically highlighted when
Emma is trapped alone with Mr. Elton in her carriage on the journey home from the Christmas Eve
dinner party at Randals. After she has rejected the vicar s proposal of marriage out of hand, they
have no choice but to continue the

Corrupt politics, president s escape and more to New Ukraine.
Introduction
Ukraine made the news a lot in the past year, but for anything Ukraine discovered or made. In the
past year the country has been in crisis due to the events that started off as a riot for Ukraine
becoming a part of EU and leading to annexation of Crimea and war in east part of the country.
Ukraine has been ruled by corrupt politicians and oligarchs and has been strongly influenced by
Russia. These two countries always had close ties, because of their past as Soviets countries, they
share a common language and are currently in pre war status right now (McMahon, 2014). This past
year has been rough with crisis and has affected areas like: social, cultural and economic. Ukrainian
government has failed its purpose to protect and make improvements in the best interest of the
country, and now thousands of people lost their homes and thousands have died, with hundreds
being killed directly at the request of former President Victor Yanukovych, who now has escaped and
currently staying in Russia with a political support from their side (Babich, 2014). The question now
is; with everything that s happening inside the country, should Russia be allowed to invade and
destroy cities and squares, while the peace agreement and sanctions are attempting to stop this
chaos? No, but the aid from countries like Germany and United States of America is not significant
and influential enough to stop Russia from military
My Classroom Environment
My classroom is geared for a Kindergarten class of 20 students, in a general education setting. The
learning environment has been organized to maximize the students safety, allow for student and
teacher movement, promote collaboration among peers, and foster student engagement in classroom
activities. Furniture utilized in this setting is developmentally and size appropriate, so that children
are comfortable. Storage cubbies, equipment, and materials have been placed in areas that are easily
accessible to both myself and my students without restricting the flow of classroom traffic or
blocking the students view of or access to learning materials. I did not decorate every inch of space
on my classroom walls. I feel that this gives the appearance of clutter and pose more of a problem
than a purpose. I utilized neutral, calming colors as the backdrop for bulletin boards, as to not
visually overwhelm my students. Also, since my classroom only has one window, the access to
natural light is limited. I felt that use of bright or neon lights in combination with the florescent
lighting could potentially be distracting to my students. Bulletin boards will primarily serve to
showcase student work, with posters displaying curriculum content placed intermittently, except for
the Calendar Math board and the Word Wall. These will both be year round, interactive boards.
Additionally, flip charts on castor wheels will be utilized for small group and differentiated learning.
The Stock Market Movements And The Social Media
The stock market movements are complex and difficult to predict with certainty. Strategies tend to
work for a while before they fail terribly. Mathematical and statistical formulae don t hold for long.
This is mainly because some of the factors influencing the demand/supply of a stock cannot be
quantified and may be poison distributed. Historical patterns are broken every now and then while
fundamental data bears different effects on stocks at different times of an economic cycle. However,
there appears to be a correlation between the stock marketmovements and the atmosphere in the
social media. This is yet to be tested in this study, even though there are numerous studies concerning
this topic. However, through the AP s Twitter account,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This must be relevant data that is cost effective to help us answer the research questions stated in the
introductory part.
We are going to collect sample data and test it for conclusions. The main data collection methods will
be secondary data from online sources and through questionnaires.
Our focus on secondary data will be on social media sources that are reliable and trustworthy. The
sources should have a profile for influencing stock markets with their information. As for the social
media, we shall select three major ones. These are Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.
We will use 6 days data; 3 of which are prices prior to the news on social media and three days after
the news. We shall focus on the average price movement, the standard deviation, and the volume
traded in the six days.
In this method, we shall adapt these assumptions:
1.The particular social media news are those influencing the stock market only.
2.The data gathered from secondary sources is accurate and relevant for our research.
3.Data collected from questionnaires are accurate and true.
4.Majority of fundamental traders influence the market most. That is, technical traders have little or
no effect on stock prices.
The statistics will then be studied using Microsoft Excel to get averages, pie charts, and standard
deviations.

The most impressive trait of this lean inventory model was the 3 Days of inventory which meant an
inventory turn of 122 per annum. Dell s Strategy in Present Times
With the advent of Internet and particularly the e commerce business, the scenario has changed to a
large extent. Hence the system at Dell needs modification to stay updated with the competition. The
following factors have changed:
1)The customers are willing to choose from the number of model provided by the companies instead
of a more customized product.
2)The movement of the different models of products has become faster. Hence the companies are
required to keep inventory so as to meet the demand.
3)Significant drop in the prices of the products as PCs and Laptops have become a commodity.

Review of Index Building Methodologies

Introduction:
In recent decades, academics, policymakers and non governmental organizations have placed greater
focus on establishing more comprehensive metrics of well being and development ##. Measures of
national welfare have conventionally centered on a fairly narrow band of economic considerations,
such as gross domestic product (GDP) and employment rate. Poverty and wellbeing are now widely
understood as multifaceted concepts which cannot be adequately described through measurements
of income alone. Economists and development experts are faced with the challenge of constructing
metrics to distill the various components of wellbeing into an easily comparable index. The following
summarizes the most salient contemporary methods of index construction and provide a brief
overview of their strengths and weaknesses.
Transformation Functions: In order to build a multi dimensional index it is first necessary to
convert the various components deemed relevant into a comparable, aggregatable set of units. That
is, to find a way to bring variables like average income (which may be expect to fall in the range of
tens of thousands of dollars) and life expectancy (which would rarely exceed 90 years) into the same
scale of measurement. The mathematical tools used to accomplish this task are known as
transformation functions. We can sort the transformation functions which are relevant to index
formation into five
Taking a Look at Prions
Though a relatively new institution, the realm of public health has been fairly consistent from its
conception. Using a methodology centered in evidence based, population approach health studies,
scientists have been given the means to fight and control disease around the world. Traditionally, a
communicable disease is caused by one of three foreign agents: bacteria, parasites, viruses. While
quite different, these four agents have much in common, including their adherence to Koch s germ
theory, their reliance on human hosts, and methods of transmission. In the last twenty years or so,
however, the scientific community has encountered a fifth type of pathogen that is completely
different in size, composition, and the disease it causes the prion. In its simplest form, a prion is a
protein in a misfolded form. Essentially, this protein propagates by transmitting its misfolded state to
other proteins in its host, specifically in cranial and neural tissue. The altered structure of the protein,
which constitutes the prion, is extremely stable, and cannot be denatured by chemical and physical
agents. The harm comes to the human or animal when the prions aggregate extracellularly in the
central nervous system, creating plaques and holes in the tissue diseases that are caused by prions
are known as transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs). The recent discovery of prions,
though rare in existence, pose a serious threat to the consistency of public health and the
Oh Ms Believer Analysis
Some people listen to songs because they like the how the song sounds to them, and completely
ignore the lyrics, while others listen to the lyrics of the song, rather than simply hearing the
catchy beat. In Oh Ms Believer by Twenty One Pilots, someone is trying to help his or her loved
one through the complications of depression. There are many different hidden meanings in the
lyrics of the song Oh Ms Believer , such as in the lyrics Oh, Miss Believer, my pretty sleeper/Your
twisted mind is like snow on the road (1 2). The song opens with a simile that means her thoughts
cover up who she truly is, or that her thoughts could be dangerous, perhaps life threatening,
because when snow covers a road it becomes hidden, slippery, and dangerous to drive on. Another
part of the song s lyrics Your shaking shoulders prove that it s colder/Inside your head than the
winter of dead (3 4), show that the subject in the song is probably crying because her shoulders are
shaking, and also that her thoughts are depressing and likely dangerous. The entire song relies
heavily on the idea of cold, such as winter and snow, for in the lyrics of the... Show more content on

These lyrics express that the speaker in the song is trying to help and love someone, but the other
person does not believe they deserve it, and does not believe it is true because of her depression.
Another line of lyrics in the song, Oh, Miss Believer, my pretty weeper/Your twisted thoughts are
like snow on the rooftops (15 16), represents that the woman s thoughts are weighing her down and
hiding who she truly is. This song focuses on depression and how it warps one s mind, hides one s
true personality, physically and mentally weighs one down, and how ones does not believe the
compliments one receives because one does not believe they could be
Finding a Lost Literacy in the Book, The Lost Lady by...
Characterization is arguably the key to exceptional literature. Every aspect, from speech to
mannerism, is essential to a character s effectiveness. Characters both enhance and complete a work
of literature. The way a statement is whispered, or an implicit comment uttered, is vital to the way a
story flows and how a novelevokes intensity. The personality of each character is the gateway to an
undiscovered realm; a place only found between the confines of two covers. Characters offer insight
into that vast world in order to reveal a newfound understanding of the contents on each and every
page. Willa Cathers novel exemplifies the significance of characterization impeccably. In A Lost
Lady, the characters in the novel establish social influence and insurmountable change on the
inhabitants of Sweet Water. The characters in A Lost Lady first institute social influence in Sweet
Water through the renowned Forrester gatherings. The Captain s nobility and charisma make him a
leader amongst his associates. Simultaneously, Marian Forrester s beauty and lady like disposition
make even the hardest and coldest of [their] friends...meet the gay challenge in her eyes... (Cather

everyone she encounters. The editors of American Literature Volume One agree that, socially,
Marian Forrester is the much admired figurehead of culture and society in the town of Sweet Water...

Role Of A Fool Or Jester During Elizabethan Times
The role of a fool or jester during Elizabethan times were to entertain everyone at court, especially
the King. The fool would sing, dance, make jokes and make a fool of himself. In Shakespeare s
King Lear, the fool has many roles. When Lear banishes Cordelia from his kingdom, the fool in a
way takes on Cordelia s role. He is not only a fool, but through his sarcasm and irony, he becomes
the king s loyal advocate by pointing out the king s shortcomings. The fool is the only one who is
able to criticize the king of his shortcomings without consequences and is able to abate the king s
behavior. Because the fool follows Lear everywhere, we can say that truth, in a symbolic sense is
following Lear everywhere and is by his side.
This becomes the reason the Fool operates as a catalyst for Lear s process of self awareness and
gaining wise insight into the world and his place in it.
Now my friendly knave I thank thee. There s / earnest of thy service. // Let me hire him too, here s
my coxcomb (King Lear: Fool 1.4.91 93). In this scene the fool uses coxcomb as a metonymy
device to show that Lear s division of the kingdom was foolish and Kent s (disguised as Caius)
decision to follow Lear was even more foolish. The fool is the king s advisor, teaching the king
lessons without fearing the king s anger.
The Fool speaks from the earliest of points that what Lear has done might be wrong. He continually
speaks of Lear s real condition, apart from what he might perceive it
