The Roaring Laughter
He stomped wildly across the puddle ridden gravel road. He was going to be late. Oi, there s the
chump that wants to be in his Majesty s Navy! Too bad all that stamina won t help him on a ship.
shouted a man. He glanced to the side, the source of the roaring laughter. He had no time to
dignify that with a response. Instead, he ran faster down the muddy reflection towards the
endless dim grey sky. It was glistening, yet frigid morning in Boston. It had been only 2 weeks
since he had graduated from Dartmouth College, but he knew what he had to do today. He rose
out of his bed and put on his finest breeches and coat. He walked over to his silver mirror and
looked at the reflection. In the mirror, he saw himself, a man who... Show more content on

A good day to you, Sir, are you here for the enlisting? piped the enlistment officer. Yes, I am, my
name should be on the list, last name Benbow, first name Robert. Robert responded. The
enlistment officer looked intently down, flipping through the pages and while moving his finger
down the page until the repeated motions stopped. He kept his finger on the page and looked up.
Here we are, Robert Benbow, age 24, 72 kilograms, announced the officer, aren t you a bit too
skinny naval officer? Never mind, do not answer that. You ll be on the HMS Wanderer. Grab
what you need from your place of residence and report back here in 10 minutes for departure. I m
already on a ship? Shouldn t I get training first? questioned Robert. Fraid that we don t have
enough resources for training right now. You re only going to be on a lil gunboat. It s a pretty
simple task really, all you have to do is follow the other three gunboats and the Man o War. said
the officer. Really? What s the task? You ll be accompanying the HMS Revenge which is
containing the gold that is to be transported cross the Atlantic to his Majesty. That seems pretty
easy, we ll have a Man o War for protection, so why do we need 4 gunboats? Cause there s no
weapons the Revenge. Instead it s filled with gold. Greedy lot that crew is. They just want a bigger
Collapse Jared Diamond
Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed shows Jared Diamond s five point framework.
Jared Diamond came up with five key elements that determine whether a civilization collapses or
succeeds. Many factors help decide whether a society succeeds or not but Diamond narrowed it to
five. The Mayans are the best example of Diamond s framework because it clearly shows how
environmental problems, failure to adapt to those environmental problems, climate change, essential
trading partners, and neighbors caused this civilizationto collapse. The first of Jared Diamond s five
point framework is climate change, this contributed to the Mayans collapsing. A big climate change
in the Mayan civilization is drought and hurricanes and its effects on the Mayans. Jared Diamond
states rainfall in the Maya homeland is unpredictably variable between years; some recent years
have had three or four times more rain than other years. Also, the timing of rainfall within the year
is somewhat unpredictable, so it can easily happen that farmers plant their crops in anticipation of
rain and then the rains do not come when expected. (Diamond 254). This proves how the Mayans
did not have a sure season that rainfall would come. Sometimes it would be abundant and others it
would be scarce. This affects... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Mayans harmed their environment, by deforestation and erosion. Since the Mayans deforested
all the land, that caused erosion. The Mayans by deforesting the land caused another problem for
themselves. The Mayans would cut down trees to use for fuel and construction. Another problem
that arises because of a build up of sediment is drought. Jared Diamond describes it as man made
drought (Diamond 268) because the Mayans caused it themselves. The Mayans were not very smart
to think of the consequences deforestation would have, therefore, it contributed to the civilization
How Does The Media Alter The Perceptions Of Adolescents...
Eating Disorders and the Media Question: How does the media alter the perceptions of
adolescents body image? How does this exposure to the ideal body lead adolescents to develop
eating disorders? Hypothesis: Media exposure creates an ideal body image that is not easily
maintained by most adolescents and causes adolescents to be dissatisfied with their bodies and
leads to unhealthy diet habits and other more sever eating disorders. Logic of Study: What if the
media was limited to adolescents, would they be less likely develop an eating disorder or would
they just in fact have there own thoughts creating the actual self . Adolescents tend to have their own
perceptions of what they want their bodies to look like and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The third part is to divide the chosen participants into two groups one the controlled group and the
other the experimental group. Both groups will keep a journal of how their perceptions of
themselves chance over the course of the experiment. There will also be group discussions on
how we view our bodies with both groups separately. The group discussions will focus on what
the adolescents feel their bodies are the actual self and what they ought to look like with very
little influence from the media. The control group will be given television shows to watch like,
Baywatch and magazines like, Cosmopolitan and GQ to read this, will allow me to as they watch
and read measure the discrepancies of their ideal self vs. their actual self. The discussions in this
group will also include a hidden agenda bringing up talk of media influences with regards to the
ought self and the ideal self. In closing the study will end in a comparison of the data from both the
experimental and control group. To measure how much the media can alter the perceptions of an
adolescent I ll use the journals, group discussions, the observations made in the change in the
attitudes of the adolescents on their bodies, and the previous questionnaires to detect who is more
susceptible to develop an eating disorder. Data: The experimental group s perceptions of their bodies

The 1972 Hockey Summer Series
(it is a bit to long man take out what hockey means to canada or leave it )
Here s a shot. Henderson makes a wild stab for it and falls. Here s another shot. Right in front.
They score!! Henderson has scored for Canada! The goal heard around the world.
(F. Hewitt, 1972). For Canadians, hockey is a way of life. Canadian hockey is more than just a
sport. It s our national game, a part of our culture, our history, our national identity. Hockey is one
thing about which we have always been able to say we are the best (Gruneau 4). On September
1972, Canada and the Soviet Union played an eight game hockey series, 4 in Canada, and 4 in
Moscow, Russia, at the height of the Cold War. Originally, the series goal was to put on a good show
before ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the Soviets lost this series, they would lose no more than that, a hockey series. But for
Canadians, haunted by the knowledge that the world doubted our superiority at the game we
called our own, there was more at stake (Macfarlane 5, 1992). When Game 1 ended, Canadians
were shocked, it was Team Canada 3, Soviet Union 7. The dawning awareness that we could lose
posed humiliating consequences. The communist system would, however symbolically. (R.
MacSkimming, 2012). Suddenly, a hockey series foreshadowed the long feared climax of the Cold
War. As Phil Esposito said, It was our society against theirs, and as far as we were concerned it was
a damn war (Morrison 17, 1992).

Not only was the Summit Series a way to show which society was better but it also helped
Canadians define their national identity through nationalism. Even though it was supposed to tie
the two countries together and stand as a political symbol. Canadians saw it as the beginning of a
social war. According to the Canadian government, the series was only a friendly exchange that
would better Soviet Canadian relations. This political goal that was push for on international
terms; this contradicted the series. Paul Henderson, the Canadian hero of game 8, stated, For me,
by going to Russia, you learned to appreciate what we have as Canadians. People want to talk
about socialism and they cut up our country. Well, go over there and you ll realize what a great
country we have (Morrison 202,
A Modest Proposal Rhetorical Devices
The Rape of the Lock , written by Alexander Pope, and A Modest Proposal , written by Jonathan
Swift, are both pieces that are well known for being satires. A satire is a piece of literature that uses
irony and comical devices to get a point across to its audience. The Rape of the Lock and A Modest
Proposalmay both be satires, but they both have very different methods of delivery and execution.
I believe that A Modest Proposal is more effective in its mode of attack. It is more vicious and
scornful as opposed to The Rape of the Lock . This vicious nature helps get the point across more
easily, by stirring up the people. Also, Juvenalian Satireusually attacks a more serious matter, as this
is the case when comparing A Modest Proposal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This form of satire is more mild in nature, and is often used to arouse amusement in people. In this
piece, Pope uses a story about a woman who gets a lock of her hair chopped off to ridicule social
pretension and vanity. Although this form of satire is not as harsh as Juvenalian satire, it is
much easier to interpret, and not to be taken so seriously. This however, can make the point seem
less serious, as it will be addressed in a comical way. However, this poem is effective in its own
way at getting its point across. One of the important elements that speaks in the poem is the speech
made by the character Clarissa. In her speech, she questions why a society that places emphasis on
beauty in women cannot emphasise good humor. This speech is often interpreted at the main moral
of the story, that people often react too much to silly things, like losing a lock of hair. For this type
of topic, this form of satire works very well, as harsh ridicule is not needed to point out
Themes In The Invisible Man
The theme I chose for this novel is a young man searching for his identity and unsure about where to
turn to define himself.

The novel the invisible man is the story of a man who is searching for his happenings coming up
and now believes he is invisible to society. The narrator makes clear that he is invisible clearly
because people refuse to see him . The narrator flares back to his own youth, recalling his
judgment. He goes back to say that he lives underground, channeling electricity aside from
Monopolated Light and Power Company by edging his apartment . The narrator describes a vision
he had while he was listening to Louis Armstrong, exploring back into the history of slavery. He his
introduced in an intangible voice , someone who has lost his specification through the society .
The narrator casts back on an earlier period of the 20th century, encouraging that a newly
educated black class felt guilty of a past that was no flaw of its own. The narrator s grandfather
emerged to be in this line hoping to forget the history of slavery, but on his deathbed reveals that
the struggle against white oppression is still continuing . At first, the narrator cannot grasp that his
grandfather was fighting against oppression in his work he was compliant to white men. But as he
progresses as a student the denials of the system become more clear it is not clear if white men
wish for him to advance or not. The narrator s worldview has become more complex.
Purpose Statement For Diabetes
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

According to International Diabetes Federation, approximately 592 million people worldwide

would be suffering from diabetes by 2035 and this would be a major economic burden to the
society globally. Detail knowledge of normal physiological processes at cellular and molecular
level will give me a better understanding in dealing with pathological conditions in human body.
Insight of the structure and function of organelles, chemical composition of enzymes, hormones,
their interaction and expression in structural and functional unit of life can significantly help in
bringing down morbidity and mortality associated with metabolic disorders like diabetes and
various other diseases. Grown up in a family of medical professionals, the curiosity to explore
various life processes was not only acquired but also inherent. I want to take a leap forward of what
my parents and grandparents practice and Cell and Molecular Physiology or Immunology as major
will surely make me accomplish in achieving my aim of life.

Goblin Shark Research Paper
Have you ever seen.....? The rare Goblin Shark fits the bill. The Goblin Shark, also known as the
Elfin Shark, is a cold blooded deep sea shark. The Mitsukurina Owstoni, The Goblin Shark
scientific name, is a lesser known shark species. IN fact, from 1904 to 1937, scientists thought
several specimens of Goblin Sharks were separate species. This error was because Goblin Sharks
