Elizabethan Era Hygiene
The Elizabethan Era The Elizabethan Era was during the 1500s. The Elizabethan Era was also
known as The Renaissance . The Renaissance occurred during Shakespearean times. During the
Elizabethan Era personal hygiene wasn t important. Diseases were prone because there wasn t any
hygiene. Medications and procedures were very basic. As a result, healthy lifestyles and safe
medical procedures were irrelevant to daily living because during the Elizabethan Erascience and
medicine didn t play a major role in people s lives. People were filthy, diseases were rampant, and
the life expectancy wasn t long. Personal Hygiene wasn t important. People didn t wash their bodies
often. Nobles had private bathtubs in their bedrooms. During the middle ages,... Show more content

The belief about the causes of illness were based on the ancient teaching of Aristotle and
Hippocrates ( Elizabethan Medicine and Illness). Physician, Surgeons, and Barbers were the
three categories for medical professions (Foster Par. 2) Physicians would dose themselves in
vinegar and chew. Elizabethan Physicians were very wealthy. By the end of the major wave of
the plague at the beginning of the 15th century, most of the physicians and many surgeons had
died (Foster Par. 3). Elizabethan surgeons were similar to barbers. Barbers could only pull teeth.
The barbers were the only ones left after the other doctors died (Foster Par. 3). The Elizabethan
housewife used various herbs to practice to produce homemade medicines and potion
(Elizabethan Medicine and Illness). The church provided some comfort for the poor (Elizabethan
Medicine and Illness Par. 8). The local wise woman was often the first person contacted by poor
people (Elizabethan Medicine and Illness Par. 9). The Elizabethan apothecary was like today s
pharmacy. The three groupings of pharmaceutical workers include Apothecary, Herbalist, and a
Hedge Witch. (Foster Par. 2). Same physicians prescribed special laxatives and directives to purge
people of waste fluids that might carry the Black Death. (Dunn 63). Surgical procedures were also
very basic without the use of high tech machines and instruments (Health and diet in Elizabethan
England Par. 11 ). Burning and cutting your skin was a way to prevent the plague. The Bubonic
Plague was also treated by lancing the buboes and applying a warm poultice of butter, onion, and
garlic. (Elizabethan Medicine and Illness Par. 13). The Bubonic plague was also treated with
tobacco, arsening, lily root, and dried food (Williams Par. 12). Wounds were cleaned with vinegar.
They thought vinegar killed diseases. Treatment of earaches included roasted onion being placed in

Poverty Of Sharecroppers And Unemployed Industrial Workers
Poverty of Sharecroppers vs Unemployed Industrial Workers Poverty has been a big issue over
the past century or so and continues to be a problem to this day in the United States. Due to the
Civil War, rural areas and industrial areas were affected by poverty. The poverty of rural
sharecroppers in 1877 was different from the poverty of unemployed industrial workers in 1939.
Even though both situations were dealing with a form of poverty, both were two completely
different situations. There were several major events that happened that caused poverty of rural
sharecroppers in 1877. Although there were various events leading up to the poverty of
unemployed industrial workers in 1939, poverty in the year of 1877 was just as bad, if not worse,
as in the year of 1939. There are several major events that happened after the Civil War that led up to
poverty. In 1865, Southern states started issuing out black codes after the Civil War. Black codes
were intended to restrain African Americans freedom. It made it illegal for an African American to
be unemployed or to quit a job, which made them slaves even though they were getting paid low
wages. In 1866, the 14th Amendment was passed by Congress, which granted citizenship for all
Americans, not just white Americans, but African Americans too. This Amendment got endorsed by
the states, which became known as the Reconstruction Amendment two years later in 1868. In 1870,
the states were obligated to enforce the 15th Amendment due the
The Kalam Cosmological Argument
God exists because we have people who exists, nature exists, the world exists. According to the
video on the Kalam Cosmological argument, People who don t believe God exists think that the
world and everything in it is just here and there is no cause and effect. If something exists than
there is a cause because the world doesn t just come out of nowhere. There must be a reason why
things are the way they are. People create things in the world like social artifacts or etc. Godcreated
people to make the world what it is based on new intentions or etc. In the Ontological argument it
states that If it is possible that God Exists, then it follows logically that God does exist . It means
that God exits because it s possible or more likely... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We will always live in a world where there is still problems and people are still trying to protest
about what s lacking in American society. Some people thing that American society has charge

not all of society. We still have problems with people who thing that they can fix what s going on
in this society but, we can t unless we all come together but that want to happen because people
have different views about American society. The American society is divided between Trump
supporters and people who don t support Trump and it s divided for other reasons as well. I think
we always had that problem when American society is divide but when Trump was selected to be
President, the society being divide was more known and it made our society feel like we are at
war with each other. The American society has a set back because we are in 2018 and we still
have problems with people who have different culture, religions, race, or etc. that are being
discriminated. We still face conflicts about how a person should be and look like. Some people are
depression with how society is and how some people treat them. We still have some
The Presidential Election Of 1984
The United States presidential election of 1984 was the 50th quadrennial presidential election. It
was held on Tuesday, November 6, 1984. The presidential race was between the incumbent
Republican candidate, President Ronald Reagan, and former Vice President Democratic candidate,
Walter Mondale. Reagan was helped in the election by a strong economic recovery from the deep
recession of 1981 1982. Reagan carried 49 of the 50 states, becoming only the second presidential
candidate to do so after Richard Nixons victory in the 1972 presidential election. Mondale s only
electoral votes came from the District of Columbia, which has always been considered a
Democratic guarantee, and his home state of Minnesota which he won by a mere 3761 votes,
meaning Reagan came within 3800 votes of winning all fifty states. Reagan s 525 electoral votes
(out of 538) is the highest total ever received by a presidential candidate. Mondale s 13 electoral
votes is also the 2nd fewest ever received by a second place candidate, second only to lf Landon s 8
in 1936. In the national popular vote, Reagan received 58.8% to Mondale s 40.6% (2016,

For a long period, candidates running for President of the United States often have what s called a

voters would choose them as their president elect. Technology has played a key role in doing that for
past elections and current ones. During
Natural Resources throughout the World
All that glitters is not gold.
Right is still right, even if nobody is doing it. And wrong is still wrong, even everybody is doing it.
Texas Ranger saying.
No doubt, Pakistan is among those few countries which are rich in natural resources. But merely a
plenty of natural resources does not assure the promised prosperity for a country. There is always
something concealed behind the apparent opportunity, but what matters here is that we do not
bother to unveil those glittering chances and opportunities that can be efficiently selected and chose
for future prospects as well. Pakistan is one of the developing countries, blessed with a plenty of
natural resources but sometimes blessings can also become a curse not by the supreme power of
Allah but by the human err and wrong decisions. Sometimes, natural resource becomes a curse for
developing countries and can be termed as paradox of plenty. Such countries tend to have less
economic growth and worse development outcomes because natural resource curse causes conflicts,
bad governance and stagnant economic growth. Instead being a blessing, such natural resources
have an adverse impact on an economy of a country.

Introduction

The resources curse is also known as the paradox of plenty . The countries with an abundant of
natural resources tend to have less economic growth as compared to those having fewer or none

The Pursuit of Happiness

The Pursuit of Happiness for one person is different for that of another person. The same goes for
those of different cultures. It could be the traditions in how they are brought up as children and
what they are taught to believe at an early age. In America we are continually told about the
American Dream which is the portrait of the perfect family in a Norman Rockwell painting, the
perfect job, the house with the white picket fence and no problems where everybody looks happy
and acts as if they are happy; this would be a stereotype of what happiness looks like. Is this true
happiness? Not really for very few of us ever achieve all of these ... Show more content on

Happiness is based on what is going on around the culture as a whole and not the individual. Asian
cultures and traditions do not look at happiness as a major experience in the realm of life
experiences. They regard happiness and all emotions as temporary states of the mind and continue
on with their day as if nothing happened. Asian cultures are more apt to view well being by how
they are seen as a family or country by those around them in their community which is very critical
for the Asian cultures. Whereas Americans are more individualistic in this sense for we are always
looking to be better than the next person.
A good example of the difference between Asian cultures and America would be the Olympic
Games. Children from most other countries than the USA are literally taken from homes at early
ages and it is their job to bring home the gold medal for their country. It is put in their heads at an
early age that this is their meaning in life and that if they don t succeed that they will be bringing
failure not only to themselves but to their family and country if they don t succeed. This is why
when America took the gold in women s gymnastics this past summer, and China took the silver
that the Chinese women looked so down like it was the end of the world. Where as in the diving
competition when the Chinese women would win Gold they looked like it was expected. With the
American diver there was so
Essay on The Process Of An Internal Combustion Engine
Process Essay

Process of a 4 stroke Internal Combustion Engine

A common phrase that is heard whilst growing up is curiosity killed the cat . This phrase might
be true but; ingenuity brought the cat back . Having a mindset in which giving up is never an
option has plagued most inventors of the modern day, especially a high school drop out named
Nikolaus August Otto, born in 1832. Otto was responsible for the development and improvement
of the 4 stroke motor that is used today in just about every automobile on the road. Many people
drive cars but fail to realize how they work, and don t try to learn about engines because they think
it is complex, and not an easy concept to grasp. Air, fuel, spark, and combustion are the premise ...

In the next step the air travels into the combustion chamber (cylinder), where it is mixed with the
other components of combustion.
Equally important as the air, is the fuel going into the cylinder. Fuel starts off in the gas tank of the
car and then gets pumped into the fuel lines by the fuel pump. The fuel goes through the fuel lines
and into the fuel rail. Attached to the fuel rail are electronically controlled injectors (one per
cylinder), which are controlled by the mass air sensor. The mass air senor regulates how much fuel
is necessary to mix with the air to achieve the ideal air to fuel ratio. The injectors spray into the
cylinder at synchronized times mixing with air and eventually resulting in combustion.
The final and most important steps of the Internal Combustion Engine are the movements of the
pistons. At this point in the process fuel, and air are both present inside the chamber and are
combined into a ratio, this is called the air fuel ratio, short AFR. There are four motions of each
piston; they are in perfect balance and harmony, much like watching an orchestra perform. These
motions (strokes) are detailed as follows:

On the intake stroke, the intake valve has opened. (The intake valve is the opening that the air
and fuel are released into the cylinder) The piston is moving down, and a mixture of air and
vaporized fuel is being
The Pros And Cons Of Human Migration
Human migration can be defined as the movement of people from one place to other areas due to
several reasons. It might be permanent or temporary, or forced or voluntary. Migration is not
recent phenomenon and people were migrating starting from long time ago but the reasons are
different today. The notion of migration can be bad or good depending on the type and forms of
migration. Sometimes it can be a merit for the migrants, sending and receiving countries but, it
can also be disastrous for them. It might be horrible for sending countries especially when they
loss skilled labor forces so called brain drain but it became worth when the sending countries get
remittances to build foreign exchange reserve capacity and the investments they made through
their families or by themselves after returning to their homelands. Many people are migrating not
only for the reason that they cannot find a job on their own labor market but also because wages
in other countries are higher. Receiving countries are welcome for skilled workforces since it can
cover their aging labor and decrease the investment to train. Immigrants provide work for the others
because they are consumers of all kinds of services. The problems come when the migrants are
illegal and forced due to different... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The World Bank conservatively estimates that $80 billion in work remittances were transferred
from immigrants to their countries of origin in 2002 (World Bank Group, 2003). Immigrants are

the workforce in rich countries with aging population and to protect industries that rely on
immigrant labor (Hayter, 2002). The problem comes when the immigrants are illegal despite some
countries like United States depend heavily on illegal farm workers to do work such as fruit and

Gdp Paper
Gross Domestic Product, or GDP, is the value of all final goods or services produced in an economy
in a given year. It is split into four different components: consumption, investment, government
spending, and net exports. Consumption is 66% of GDP, and is divided into three separate parts:
durable goods, nondurable goods, and services. Investment is 17% of GDP, and is divided into four
separate parts: residential construction, nonresidential construction, purchase of capital equipment,
and changes in inventories. Government spendingis also 17% of GDP, and is divided into three
separate parts: state spending, local spending, and federal spending. Net exports is around 1% of
GDP, and is calculated by subtracting imports from... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Investment The investment component makes up approximately 17% of GDP. The manufacturing
sector is located in the investment component of GDP and is considered a key indicator in
evaluating the strength of the economy. According to the Institute for Supply Management, the
manufacturing index rose in February to 35.8, up from 35.6 in January. It was the index s first
increase in eleven months, and was predicted to fall to 33.8. Sam Bullard, an economist at Wachovia,
stated that Everyone is so pessimistic from first quarter reports, so even when we see a modest gain,
it s a glimmer of hope. All of the eighteen manufacturing industries reported contraction in February
however; the Institute for Supply Management, as mentioned previously, stated that any number
below 50 denotes contraction in the sector. Bullard, as well as other economists, believe that the
index will remain constant until the end of 2009 when it will begin to rise. People feel the same way
about this as they do about consumption.
Investment is divided into four parts. The first of these parts is residential construction. Residential
construction includes new housing for consumers. CNNMoney.com s article entitled Economy:

Transgenic Pigs Pros And Cons
Transgenic pigs and other genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are a source of controversy in
the medical and agricultural worlds. For the most part, public opinion on the use of modified
animals for food is not positive. Many people question the ethics of inserting DNA into animal
embryos and others fear the effects editing DNAmay have on animals (Delaney, 2010). Opponents
of GMO use tend to lack scientific data to support their arguments, citing sources such as CBS
news and the New York Times (Non GMO Project, 2014). However, transgenic animals are not
always entirely stable, such as the first transgenic line of pigs, which was found to be unpredictable
in reproduction (Meidinger et al., 2013). Nevertheless, once ascertained, these concerns... Show more

The CA line pigs fed a diet without P supplementation were capable of growing equivalently to the
non transgenic pigs fed a diet with supplemental P, meaning that transgenic pigs are not hampered
by the transgene when it comes to growth performance. As farmers tend to prefer pigs that grow
well, this finding means that transgenic pigs can be considered as suitable replacements to the
conventional pig. In addition, because gain to feed ratios are similar between the two breeds,
farmers should be more tolerant of the modified pigs. The health of the CA pigs also appears to be
similar to the Yorkshire, as the blood serum P and alkaline phosphatase concentration are in range for
correct bone formation, though this was not tested. Most importantly, however, are the P retention
and output percentages of the CA pigs. Based on data from this study, transgenic pigs excrete far less
P (Meidinger et al., 2013), which in turn leads to lower P in manure runoff, a major source of water
pollution. With a lower P excretion without supplemental phytase, the transgenic pig appears to be
better for the environment than the Yorkshire. The phytase secretion in the saliva of the CA pigs,
therefore, appears to be sufficient for P digestion. Additionally, the phytase secretion seems to aid in
the utilization of macrominerals, which may limit ammonia emissions from the pigs, another
environmental benefit (Meidinger et al., 2013). Consequently, the Enviropig appears to be a suitable
strategy in managing the environmental effects of swine production, aside from the possible
denitrification of soil (Yang et al., 2008). In order to be entirely certain the transgenic pig is
advantageous in reducing environmental impact, studies must be done to weigh the benefits and
detriments. In addition, the public must also accept the
The Science of Radiocarbon Dating Essay
The Science of Radiocarbon Dating

When we think of history, we think of important people, places, cultures, events, and much more.
The backbone of history rests on its chronology. It gives us the when of basic analysis. It gives us
a frame of reference, the order of things. Before having an absolute way of determining dates,
history was based in guesses and assumptions. Many attempts were made to organize the dates of
the past. Some of these attempts were made by geologist. Geologist used the idea of stratigraphic
succession (Renfrew, 1973) which is based on the principle that when successive layers or strata are
observed in position, the underlying ones are the earliest. (Pg. 23 Renfrew, 1973) By setting the
layers in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This changed history forever. While it created controversy, due to some people s attachments to the
old ways of dating and doubts in this revolutionary method, it proved to be the closest method to
have an accurate chronology of history. In 1955, to prove the accuracy or radiocarbon, Libby
published a graph that showed the comparison of the results of radiocarbon dating of specimens from
Egypt. These specimens had already an absolute known date. The graph proved the accuracy of
Libby s radiocarbon dating. Figure 1 (Renfrew, 1973)
Libby developed the method of radiocarbon dating though his observation of how cosmic rays create
radiocarbon. From outer space cosmic rays infiltrate earth s atmosphere. In the upper atmosphere,
these rays hit nitrogen and oxygen atoms in the air. (Renfrew, 1973). When the neutrons of these
high energy particles (mostly protons) hit nitrogen atoms, Carbon 14 (C 14) is created. The nitrogen
atom (atomic number 7) has an atomic mass of 14 (with 7 protons and 7 neutrons). When the
nucleus of the nitrogen is hit by the cosmic ray s neutrons, the atomic number of the atom
decreases by one. The make up of its atomic mass changes, a proton is emitted and the neutrons are
increased by one; therefore, the atomic mass number stays the same. Because the atomic number
has changed, a new element, carbon 14, with atomic number 6, has an atomic mass of 14 (with 6
protons and 8 neutrons). (Bowman, 1990) The reaction is 14N + n = 14c + p (where n is a
