1.1 This document describes the principals of the construction method, measures inspection,
quality control and testing scheme for (Steel Works) for the contract construction of the
project as well as the main equipment which is anticipated for the execution of the work.
1.2 Applicable to all SUB ELEMENT and MAIN ELEMENT constructed in the project.
2.0 REFERENCE
REFERTO SPECS
3.0 PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
A full and detailed description of the roles and responsibilities of all (Ecologi) staff is included
within the Project Quality Plan. For the works as covered by this method statement, the following
personnel have specific duties.
Ensuring that all required tests are performed and are in compliance with appropriate
specifications.
Maintaining a record of all QA/QC activities on site.
Controlling and ensuring all measuring and test equipment on site is properly
calibrated.
Controlling all non-conforming products or workmanship, and implementing the
required preventive actions.
Ensuring that corrective and preventive actions are taken when required.
Ensuring that the required testing is undertaken by approved independent
laboratories, and that all test results are reviewed.
2-As per the construction program and the priority, the cutting and bending of steel work for that
particular steel element will commence as per the approved shop drawings and bar bending schedule
3-The cut length will be marked with a steel measuring tape, as shown in the schedule
4-Site engineer and supervisor shall obtain MEP clearance prior to start of work. Plastering, flooring,
false ceiling and any related works to be completed prior to start fixing of door frames. Check the
opening size.
5-All three sides’ door frames are fitted with a travel spacer bar at the base. This should be removed
prior to installation.
8-Fix the frame using screw and tighten them until frame is held in position.
9-Recheck alignment and adjust if necessary using shims or spacers between frame and brickwork and
then fully tighten fixings.
12-Fix hardware as required and door will be prepared for mortised items (locks, surface mounted
items).
15-Inspection request to be submitted after completion of works for the necessary approvals.
c. The frame will be mechanically fixed to the inner leaf block using a steel strap(150mm-250mm).
d. Expanding foam will be pumped into the gap
between the timber frame and the cill, lintil and jambs to create an insulating warm bridge.
7. The sash will be positioned into the window frame and regulated to ensure proper functionality.
Then the hinge covers will be placed over the hinges.
8. The window handle will be fixed to the frame.
9. The window is now ready for inspection by the main contractor’s site manager. Inspection
scheduling will agreed between the steel site foreman and the main
contractor’s site manager.
10. Following the inspection and sign off the item will be deemed to be handed over to the main
contractor.
11. Following completion of installation of windows within a safe work area. steel operatives will
remove the stored waste to a skip. The main contractor may
mechanically assist moving this waste between buildings.
12. If applicable the main contractor agrees to supply steel with a skip facility to properly dispose of
the waste. steel agree that the cost of these skip(s) will be reimbursed
to the main contractor by way of a discount on the valuations. The main contractor will inform TW of
the
cost of this service in advance and agree that it will not carry a surcharge over and above the industry
standard.
13. At the end of each working day or on completion of an
installation section, steel operatives will pack their tools
and tidy the safe working area assigned to them.
14. If applicable the Main Contractor agrees to allow steel
operatives to store a job box within the site in a container.
5.0 EQUIBMENTS AND MATERIALS
2-a team of one workman and one assistance is used for placing the steel works cover within the
specification needed. Extra workman may be used according to required area to be covered per day
3-another workman may be used for small bending and cutting works
4-a site engineer is used to follow and check work used
5-quallity control engineer is used to revise the work (shape and type of steel works -work quality -no.
of bolts in the connection -specific welding process)
6.0 QUALITY CONTROL
Quality control staff will ensure performing all work in accordance with Project technical
Specifications and General Quality Control Plan as follow:
● Each activity should be performed by the assigned employee within the organization chart.
● All materials and equipment used in the activities should be approved, inspected and tested
prior to usage.
● Work procedure should follow this method statement and preparatory technical meeting.
● All activities steps should follow ITP1.
QUALITY CONTROL MEASURES:
Both the site engineer and the quality control engineer must revise the steel work according to the following
check list noted and approved by the project manager and the consultant
The check list must include the following items:
1-Document Verification: Check Shop Drawings and steel schedule are approved and correct revision
obtained.
2-Material approval Approved materials to be used.
3-Setting out & Preliminary activities: Check setting out is done as per approved shop drawings. Check
access permission ,equipment and scaffolding permission
4-steel installation of steel to be done as per approved drawings and steel schedule
5-MEP:Check all the electrical installations / openings are done as per the approved shop drawings
a-Check any mechanical services / openings are provided as per approved shop drawings.
b-Check any other MEP services to be installed are done as per approved shop drawings.
7.0 SAFETY
9.1 Safety requirements will be addressed in accordance with the Project General Safety Plan.
9.2 Ensure that sides of excavation will be protected and soil stability of the surrounding areas
will be secured.
9.3 Barricade the excavation area with warning tapes and install Safety signs and notices to
create Safe Working area.
9.4 Concrete pump shall extend their out riggers fully during pouring of concrete, Pumps
discharge hose shall be properly connected & bearing pad to be placed below the wheels of
pumps at the time of pouring.
9.5 Tools and equipment will be inspected periodically by the Contractor to ensure that remain
in proper working order and calibration certifications is current.
9.6 During night works, a suitably trained supervisor will be on site for the full night duration
and adequate lighting shall be provided.
Site Specific Hazards
Safety of the personnel and properties is to be given prime importance and all the works to
be carried out without causing any accidents or property damages. steel works involves the
following activities. (Storage-Transportation of steel shapes-Fabricating and fixing steel
works -Lifting of steel at site)
Adequate access and egress should be provided to the site for work. All the personnel
should wear basic personnel protective equipment. All the equipment, tools and tackles
being used for the work should be in good working condition and maintained. All the
personnel will be provided with toolbox talk on the procedures to execute the work safely.

3. Inside caliper. This is used to measure the diameter of holes or widths of keyways and slots. To
convert the inside caliper’s opening into linear units, use a steel rule in the same manner as that of the
outside caliper.
4. Hermaphrodite caliper. This consists of two legs, one is like that of a divider and the other one is
like the leg of an inside caliper. Hermaphrodite calipers may be used to scribe arcs or in marking
layout work.
5. Try-square. This consists of a thick beam sometimes called the stock and a thin blade set at 90°
angle. This tool is commonly used to test or “try” the accuracy of work. Many try-squares are gradated
on the blade so it may also be used as a rule.
6. Divider. This is similar in construction to calipers except that the legs are straight and terminates in
sharp points. These are used for measuring distances between points, transferring measurement
from a scale, and scribing circles and arc.s
7. Tape rule. This comes in different lengths but commonly in two meter lengths. They are useful in
measuring large dimensions such as lengths of metal bars and width of iron sheets. The flexible metal
tape rule is housed into a small metal receptacle and can be pulled out when needed.
8. Vernier caliper. This is a device which measures dimensions more accurately than most other
measuring tools and is commonly used in machine shop work.
9. Micrometer. This is used to measure very small dimensions. It may be used to determine the
thickness of a shim or the diameter of a single hair strand.
10. Layout table. This is actually made of granite or cast iron. Granites are considered better than
cast iron but are very expensive. For very simple layout work, any plain surface such as an ordinary
table top will do.
