So the reason I learned to crochet was mainly because I wanted to ► June (1)
make a sackboy, judging by a few other blogs and posts I've noticed ▼ April (1)
that Little Big Planet seems to have created quite a few new crafters. Sackboy with pattern
I've used quite a few patterns but have always found that they're
never quite what I wanted in terms of a sackboy. Having crocheted
now for around six months I decided that it was time to finally design
and pattern one myself. He took me approx. a week to finish but you A BOUT ME
could probably whip him up quicker, his head usually only takes a M U N DY
couple of hours at the most.

1/8/14 Miserable Monsters: Sackboy with pattern
A pair of buttons for eyes (I used 15 mm shiny black buttons that you
sew at the back)
A small zip ( I used a 5" one folded up, I also "painted" it using a
silver pen)
A crochet hook (4mm in my case)
DK Yarn for sack colour
DK Yarn for stitching details
DK Yarn for mouth (or you could use felt)
Polyfill stuffing ( although you could use some beans/beads to weigh
him down as well)
Head (The head is made in two parts, the best way to describe this is
like a bin with lid)
Main
Rnd 1 - 6 sts (I used the magic circle method but if you prefer
otherwise)
Rnd 2 - Inc 2 (12)
Rnd 3 - Inc 2 + sc (18)
Rnd 4 - Inc 2 + sc (27)
Rnd 5 - Inc 2 + 2sc (36)
Rnd 6 - Inc 2 + 3sc (45)
Rnd 7 - sc(45)
Rnd 8 - 16sc now ch 13, missing the 13 stitches of Rnd 7, now sc the
final 16 stitches
Rnd 9 - 3sc + Dec (36)
Rnd 10-15 - sc (36)
Rnd 16 - 2sc + Dec (27)
Finish off
Top of head
Rnd 1 - 6 st
Rnd 2 - Inc 2 (12)
Rnd 3 - Inc 2 + sc (18)
Rnd 4 - Inc 2 + sc (27)
Rnd 5 - sc (27)
Finish off
Mouth
Rnd 1 - 6 sts
Rnd 2 - Inc 2 (12)
Rnd 3 - Inc 2 (24)

1/8/14 Miserable Monsters: Sackboy with pattern
Rnd 4 - Inc 2, 22sc, Inc 2 (26)
Rnd 5 - sc (26)
Finish off
Take the mouth and fold in half, it's best to sew the edge of the fold
with a whip stitch to keep it folded. Sew the mouth into the hole left
in the main head, attach the eyes and then stuff the main head
finally attach the top, then sew the stitching details.
Body (The body is made with a hole running down the centre so that
you can easily slip and sew the zip in)
Rnd 1 - 6 sts
Rnd 2 - Inc 2 + 1 (9)
Rnd 3 - Inc 2 + 2 (12)
Rnd 4 - Inc 2 + 3 (15)
Rnd 5 - 14sc now ch 1 and turn essentially as you would for rows
Rnd 6-10 - Do as above, you should have a hole one stitch wide
forming
Rnd 11 - 14sc and ch 1 as previous, don't turn just sc into next st
this is the first st of rnd 12
Rnd 12 - 3sc + Dec (12)
Rnd 13 - 2sc + Dec (9)
Finish off
You should be able to sew the zip in now, you can either stuff the
body before or after as you should still have enough space at the top.
To stop the zip from moving you can either glue it shut or simply sew
it shut. Sew on stitching details.
Legs (The legs are essentially like the head made in two pieces,
make two pieces of each part)
Main leg
Rnd 1 - 3 sts
Rnd 2 - Inc 2 (6)
Rnd 3 - Inc 2 + 1 (9)
Rnd 4 - Inc 2 + 2 (12)
Rnd 5-9 - sc (12)
Finish off
Foot
Rnd 1 - 6 sts
miserablemonsters.blogspot.ca/2010/04/sackboy-with-pattern.html#uds-search-results 3/5
1/8/14 Miserable Monsters: Sackboy with pattern
Rnd 2 - Inc 2 + 1 (9)
Rnd 3 - Inc 2 + 2 (12)
Finish off
Stuff the leg then attach the foot pad to the bottom, sew on details
then attach to body.
Arms (This piece uses not only sc but also half double crochet, double
crochet and slip stitch to create the fingers)
Rnd 1 - 3 sts
Rnd 2 - Inc 2 (6)
Rnd 3 - sc (6)
Rnd 4 - Inc 2, 4sc, Inc 2(8)
Rnd 5-8 - sc (8)
Rnd 9 - Inc 2 + 1 (12)
Rnd 10 - sc (12)
Rnd 11 - Inc 2 + 2 (16)
Stuff the arm now fold the seam at the bottom together, going
through both layers of fabric in the 1st st do as follows
1st finger (sc,hdc,dc,hdc,sc) ss into next st
2nd finger (sc,hdc,dc,hdc,sc) ss into next st
3rd finger (sc,hdc,dc,hdc,sc) ss into next st
4th finger (sc,hdc,dc,hdc,sc) now ss up approx 2 rows and
(sc,hdc,dc,hdc,sc) then ss into a st nearby and finish off
For Sackboy's right arm do the same but finish off after the 4th
finger, leave a very long tail, you can pull this through a point for
where his thumb should be on the opposite side and then use the
(sc,hdc,dc,hdc,sc) then ss as usual and finish off. Sew the finishing
details and then then attach his arms to his body.
Any questions/problems just leave a comment and I'll see whether I
can help.
