Born on August 31, 1912, in Abra, Philippines

He learned fashion through apprenticeships and


hands-on experience

His designs blended traditional Filipino aesthetics


with modern influences Valera became known as the
"Dean of Philippine Fashion" in the mid-20th century

He was posthumously conferred the title of National


Artist of the Philippines for Fashion Design in 2006.

Salvacion Lim-Higgins, also known to the fashion
world as “Slim’s”, is the Queen Mother of the
modern terno.

She was born on January 28, 1920 at Legaspi,


Albay. She studied Fine Arts in the University of
Sto.Tomas under National Artist Carlos “Botong”
Francisco.

She entered into the fashion scene in 1947, when her


first sketches appeared in the Manila Times Sunday
Magazine anonymously signed “S. Lim.”

Salvador Bernal, a renowned Filipino costume and set
designer, collaborated with renowned directors,
playwrights, and performers, designing costumes and
sets for theater, film, television, and fashion. He was a
dedicated educator and inspired future Filipino
designers.

Philippine theatre design," revolutionized costume

Bernal is considered as the “Father of Philippine


Theatre Design” because he pioneered the creative use
of native materials such as bamboo, abaca fiber, hemp
twine, rattan chain links, and gauze cacha, giving each
production a unique look.

productions since 1969, demonstrating his exceptional
talent and artistic vision.
