CRIME AGAINST WOMEN
1251. SHRI ARVIND GANPAT SAWANT:
Will the Minister of HOME AFFAIRS be pleased to state:
(a) the number of cases which have been registered for Women abuse in
the country, Statewise;
(b) whether there has been highest increase in women abuse in the
country especially in cases of rape and murder;
(c) the number of accused persons have been convicted, acquitted for
women abuse in the country during the last three years, State-wise;
(d) whether the Government has any proposal from a committee of all
States to control violence against women; and
(e) if so, the details thereof and who will be the representatives of various
sectors in this committee?

(SHRI BANDI SANJAY KUMAR)
(a) to (c): National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) compiles statistical data
on crimes as reported to it by the States/UTs and publishes the same in
its annual publication “Crime in India”. The latest published report
pertains to the year 2022. The State/UT-wise details of Cases Registered
under Crime against Women during 2020-2022 are at Annexure-I. Details
of Crime Head-wise cases registered under Crime Against Women

including rape and murder during 2020-2022 are at Annexure-II. State/UT-
wise details of Cases Convicted, Cases Acquitted, Persons Arrested,
Persons Convicted and Persons Acquitted under Crime against Women
during 2020-2022 are available at Annexure-I.
The increased level of education and awareness in the society about
women’s rights, improved law enforcement mechanism, improved ease of
access to police stations and facilities for registration of cases,
compliance with protocol and advisories for filing of FIR, including Zero
FIR, training on gender sensitivity of officers, strict action against erring
officials etc., have led to better reporting of crime.
(d) & (e): ‘Police’ and ‘Public Order’ are State subjects under the Seventh
Schedule to the Constitution of India. The responsibility to maintain law
and order, protection of life and property of the citizens including
investigation and prosecution of crime against women rests with the
respective State Governments/UT Administrations. State Governments/UT
Administrations are competent to deal with such offences under the
extant provisions of laws.
