MOCK JOB INTERVIEW
My palms were slick with nervous sweat as I waited outside the designated interview area, a
space transformed for our mock job interview. The 'company' was Leyeco III, a local electric
cooperative. When my name was called, I straightened my borrowed blazer and walked in, a
forced smile plastered on my face. The interviewers, our teachers playing the roles, were
surprisingly serious, but also encouraging. They asked about my understanding of the energy
sector, my technical skills, and even my long-term goals. Though I stumbled over some
answers, particularly when asked about my weaknesses, I was able to confidently highlight
my problem-solving abilities and my genuine enthusiasm for learning about electrical
systems. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I actually knew, and the positive feedback I
received boosted my confidence. The experience was eye-opening. I realized the gap between
academic knowledge and real-world application, but also how well my STEM education had
prepared me. The awkward pauses, the unexpected questions, and the need to articulate my
aspirations taught me more about professional communication than any textbook ever could.
It wasn't just a mock interview; it was a glimpse into my future, a stark reminder that
preparation and confidence are just as crucial as talent, especially in a technical field like
energy distribution, and that I was capable of more than I thought.

OTHER RELATED TASKS

SHS Work Immersion Portfolio 25 | P a g e
During my work immersion at LEYECO III's FSD, I quickly became familiar with
the process of filing check vouchers for consumers. While this was a core part of my role, I
also had the opportunity to engage in 'other related tasks,' which significantly broadened my
learning experience. These tasks, aligned with the competencies LEYECO III aimed to
develop, allowed me to understand the interconnectedness of the FSD's operations.
Furthermore, I was able to utilize and enhance my teamwork and leadership skills during
these tasks. For example, when cross-referencing data between filed vouchers and digital
records, I collaborated effectively with my colleagues, ensuring accuracy and efficiency. I
also took the initiative to organize and streamline the filing process, demonstrating my
leadership abilities. Moreover, I found that my previous experiences organizing group
projects in school helped me to adapt quickly and feel comfortable in the FSD environment.
This allowed me to confidently approach new tasks and interact effectively with my
colleagues. I assisted in cross-referencing data between filed vouchers and digital records,
which deepened my understanding of financial accuracy and record keeping. I also had the
chance to observe and learn about the initial processing of incoming payments, giving me a
glimpse into the broader financial workflow. These 'other related tasks' not only enhanced my
practical skills but also provided valuable insights into the overall functioning of an electric
cooperative's financial department, and gave me a chance to utilize my teamwork and
leadership skills.

MY REFLECTIONS

My work immersion at LEYECO III's Financial Services Department (FSD) was a truly
enriching experience that provided me with invaluable insights into the practical application
of financial principles in a real-world setting. Stepping into the FSD, I was initially focused
on the core task of filing check vouchers, a seemingly simple task that quickly revealed the
importance of accuracy and organization in financial record-keeping. However, the true value
of my immersion lay in the "other related tasks" that broadened my understanding of the
department's interconnected operations.

I was able to actively participate in data cross-referencing, which sharpened my attention to

detail and analytical skills. Observing the initial processing of payments provided a
comprehensive view of the financial workflow, deepening my understanding of how an
electric cooperative manages its finances. These tasks, aligned with the competencies
LEYECO III aimed to develop, allowed me to see the practical implications of concepts
learned in the classroom.

Beyond the technical aspects, I was able to apply and enhance my teamwork and leadership
skills. Collaborating with colleagues during data verification and taking initiative in
streamlining filing processes fostered a sense of camaraderie and accomplishment. My
previous experience organizing school group projects proved instrumental in my rapid
adaptation to the FSD environment, allowing me to confidently approach new challenges.

This immersion was not just about acquiring new skills; it was about personal growth. I
learned the importance of adaptability, attention to detail, and the value of teamwork in a
professional setting. I gained a deeper appreciation for the role of electric cooperatives in
serving communities and the meticulous work required to ensure financial stability. The skills
and knowledge I gained, especially in financial record-keeping, data analysis, and
collaborative work, are directly applicable to my future career goals in [mention your desired
field, e.g., accounting, finance, business administration]. This experience has provided me
with a realistic preview of the professional environment and has solidified my determination
to pursue a career in this field. Furthermore, the exposure to the cooperative model and the
importance of community service has broadened my perspective on the role of businesses in
society, which I will carry with me in any future role. I am grateful for the opportunity to
have immersed myself in the operations of LEYECO III and for the warm welcome and
guidance provided by the FSD staff.
