Expanded Wizard of Oz Mini Musical Script

🌈 Scene 1: Kansas
GLINDA (Narrator):
Hello, everyone! I’m Glinda, the Good Witch of the North. Today, I’ll tell you the magical tale of a
brave girl named Dorothy who went on a wild adventure over the rainbow!

(Dorothy stands center. Farm friends sweep or act out chores. Aunt Em and Uncle Henry
enter.)

🎵 🎵
DOROTHY (singing):
Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high...

AUNT EM:
Dorothy, stop daydreaming and help me with the chores!

UNCLE HENRY:
Storm’s coming fast—we’d better get to the cellar!

FARM FRIEND 1:

The chickens are acting funny!

A FEW CRAZY CHICKENS:

BOK BOK BOK!

FARM FRIEND 2:

I see dark clouds in the sky!

GLINDA:
But one day, the skies turned dark... and a tornado came!

ENSEMBLE (spinning, making wind sounds):

Whoooosh! Swirl! Spin! Look out!

Characters for tornado: scarves, tornado craft holders, cow, pig, horse, sheep, laundry holder,
grandma, someone sweeping (open to ideas from cast)

(Dorothy spins or is gently moved around the stage. Lights flicker. She “lands” in Oz.)

🍭 Scene 2: Munchkinland
GLINDA:
Dorothy’s house landed in a magical place called Oz. And guess what? It landed on a very bad
witch!

Dorothy:

We’re not in Kansas anymore!

MUNCHKIN 1:
Look! Her house landed right on the Wicked Witch!

MUNCHKIN 2:
She saved us! The Wicked Witch was so mean!

MUNCHKIN 3:
Thank you, thank you, thank you!

MUNCHKIN 4:
We’ve never seen shoes so sparkly!

MUNCHKIN 5:
This calls for a celebration!

MUNCHKIN 6:

Let’s tell everyone the good news!

SONG: Ding Dong the Witch is Dead

Ding-dong, the witch is dead! Which old witch? The wicked witch

Ding-dong, the wicked witch is dead

She's gone where the goblins go below, below, below, yo ho

Let's open up and sing, and ring the bells out

Ding-dong! the merry-o sing it high, sing it low

Let them know the wicked witch is dead

MUNCHKIN 7:
Now you must go see the Wizard!

MUNCHKIN 8:
He lives in the Emerald City.
MUNCHKIN 9:
It’s far away, but follow the yellow bricks!

DOROTHY:
Oh my! I didn’t mean to hurt anyone...

GLINDA:
Don’t worry. You did us all a favor! But now, you must find the Wizard of Oz. Only he can help
you get home.

SONG: FOLLOW THE YELLOW BRICK ROAD:

MUNCHKIN 10:

Follow the yellow brick road

MUNCHKIN 11:

Follow the yellow brick road

MUNCHKIN 12:

Follow the yellow brick road

MUNCHKIN 13:

Follow the yellow brick road

ALL MUNCHKINS:

Follow the yellow brick road

Follow the yellow brick road

Follow follow follow follow

Follow the yellow brick road

Follow the yellow brick

Follow the yellow brick

Follow the yellow brick road

You're off to see the Wizard

The wonderful Wizard of Oz

You'll find he is a whiz of a wiz if ever a wiz there was

If ever oh ever a wiz there was the Wizard of Oz is one because

Because, because, because, because, because...

Because of the wonderful things he does

You're off to see the Wizard

The wonderful Wizard of Oz!

🧠 Scene 3: The Road to Oz

GLINDA:
Along the yellow brick road, Dorothy made some very special friends.

DOROTHY:
Oh! What’s that?

SCARECROW:
Howdy! My name’s Scarecrow! I don’t have a brain!

DOROTHY:
Come with me! Maybe the Wizard can help.

SCARECROW:
You really think so? Golly, that would be swell!

GLINDA:
Soon, they met a man made of tin.

TINMAN:
I wish I had a heart! Can I come too?

DOROTHY:
Of course! We could use a friend like you.

TINMAN:
Thank you! I may be rusty, but I can dance!

TINMAN (does a robot dance):

Clank, clank, CLUNK!

GLINDA:
And then a lion with a roar!
LION:
ROOOAAAR! Put ‘em up. Put ‘em up put ‘em up. ...Oh no, did I scare you? I’m actually scared
of everything. I’m afraid of heights!

DOROTHY:
It’s okay. You’re brave for trying!

LION:
I want to come too. Maybe the Wizard can help me be brave.

DOROTHY:
Let’s all go together!

ENSEMBLE (walking in line, arms linked):

We’re off to see the Wizard, the wonderful Wizard of Oz!

🧹 Scene 4: The Wicked Witch (new Dorothy, Lion, Tinman, and Scarecrow)
GLINDA:
But trouble was waiting with the wicked witch and her flying monkeys...

WICKED WITCH:
Give me those ruby slippers!

DOROTHY:
Never!

TINMAN:
Leave her alone!

SCARECROW:
She didn’t do anything wrong!

LION (shaking):
Yeah! I mean... uh... RAAAAWR!

WICKED WITCH:
Then I’ll make you sorry!

ENSEMBLE:
Noooo!

GLINDA:
Dorothy was brave. She picked up a bucket...
DOROTHY (throws pretend water):
Take this!

WICKED WITCH (melting dramatically):

I’m melting! Meeeelting! What a world!

FLYING MONKEYS:
Yay! She’s gone! We’re free!

🎩 Scene 5: The Wizard (new Dorothy, Lion, Tinman, and Scarecrow)

GLINDA:
At last, they reached the Emerald City.

WIZARD (booming voice):

Who dares approach the great and powerful Oz?

DOROTHY:
Please help us!

SCARECROW:
I need a brain!

TINMAN:
I need a heart!

LION:
I want courage!

WIZARD:
You already have those things. You just needed to believe in yourselves!

SCARECROW:
Wait... I do think smart things sometimes!

TINMAN:
I cry during happy movies!

LION:
I faced a witch! That’s brave!

DOROTHY:
But how do I get home?
GLINDA (stepping forward):
You had the power all along. Just click your heels and say… There’s no place like home.

ENSEMBLE (clicking heels):

There’s no place like home. There’s no place like home.

🌈 Finale
GLINDA:
And just like that, Dorothy was home again—safe, sound, and full of heart.

ENSEMBLE (singing):
Somewhere over the rainbow

Bluebirds fly

Birds fly over the rainbow

Why, then, oh, why can't I?

If happy little bluebirds fly

Beyond the rainbow

Why, oh, why can't I?

(Bows!)
