Integration Overview

Integration Overview
Use Cases for Integration

• The SAP S/4HANA embedded analytics tools as shown are only for Operational data available
within SAP S/4HANA, this means it may not meet your historical reporting requirements.

• So for strategic reporting use cases another front end tool may be required to combine data
from multiple data sources for reporting.

• Only Real-time data access is available in SAP S/4HANA embedded analytics. For snapshots
or time specific views of data a front end tool is required that supports data imports.

• By integrating with front end tools such as SAP Analytics Cloud we can leverage our SAP
S/4HANA operational data along with data from various other data sources for strategic
reporting.

• Transient Analytical Queries enable the SAP strategic reporting front-ends to receive data from
SAP S/4HANA. We will explain what these Queries are along with the capabilities when
combined with the various front ends.

Transient Providers
and Transient Query
Concept

INTERNAL – SAP and Customers only 12

Transient Providers and Transient Query Concept
Overview

• A Transient Provider is a Virtual Provider with

transient metadata and a special access routine
to read data.
• Thus, SAP S/4HANA embedded analytics
applications can use the analytic engine without
creating SAP BW models in the first place.
• The transient provider is created based on the
following annotation from the CDS View
@Analytics.query:true

INTERNAL – SAP and Customers only 13

Transient Providers and Transient Query Concept
Analytical Query Annotation

• A CDS view that includes the annotation

@Analytics.query=true is always executed in the
analytics engine (embedded BW) of SAP
S/4HANA.
• Technically, a temporary info provider is
automatically generated at runtime on top of the
analytical query. This temporary info provider is
known as a transient provider and translates the
CDS analytical query into a format that can be
read by the analytical engine.
• The analytical queries, processed by the
analytical engine, are then available for
consumption by SAP BI tools and SAP Analytics
Cloud.

INTERNAL – SAP and Customers only 14

Transient Providers and Transient Query Concept
Transient Query Generation

• In the ABAP Development Tools for

Eclipse, the CDS view "ABC" is created.
The view annotation @Analytics.query:
true automatically creates a transient
analytic query (BWQuery) for this view as
a separate DDIC object. The query name
gets a prefix 2C, so the generated name
for this transient analytical query
becomes: 2CABC. The transient analytic
query can be tested in the ABAP system
using the transaction: RSRT2.

INTERNAL – SAP and Customers only 15

Transient Providers and Transient Query Concept
Query Monitor

• The Query Monitor can be used to test

the correctness of query views
(Annotation: @Analytics.query: true) and
views used in these query views. It can
also be used to test Analytical views
(CUBE or FACT) via a default query. It
allows testing of the complete query
functionality in different UIs. Add 2C to
your SQL view name.
• For example:
• CDS view name: ZTKC_FlightQuery
• SQL view name:
ZTKCFLIGHTQUERY
• ID of (transient provider for) query:
2CZTKCFLIGHTQUERY

INTERNAL – SAP and Customers only 16

Transient Providers and Transient Query Concept
Transient Provider Preview

• The Transient Provider Preview displays the

metadata of the transient provider which is
used at runtime for a specific CDS view
(DIMENSION, HIERARCHY, CUBE, FACT).
Use it to check if the Analytic Engine is able to
interpret the metadata of the CDS view
correctly. Enter the SQL view name of the
CDS view you want to check. The ID of the
transient provider ("2C" + ) and the metadata
that the info provider takes from the CDS view
(key fields, key figures, attributes and
hierarchies) is displayed. For example, you
can check if the association of a field is done
to the correct dimension view. Use the
Standard Query button to check the results of
the view (transient provider) execution.

Integration of SAP S/4HANA with SAP Analytics Cloud
Overview

• SAP Analytics Cloud is a software

as a service (SaaS) solution that
provides tools to the business
user for self-service analytics
using data from any source,
including SAP S/4HANA.
• SAP Analytics Cloud combines
the three pillars of analytics by
providing tools to build the
following:
• Business Intelligence
• Planning

Overview

• The business users may also need to run SAP BusinessObjects

reports.
• Rather than have to navigate to each SAP Analytics application, such
as Analysis for Microsoft Office or Lumira, and then locate the report
to finally launch it, it is possible to directly launch a report from a SAP
Fiori tile.
• There are two options:
• Launching the BI report from the SAP Fiori Launchpad
• Launching the BI Launchpad from the SAP Fiori Launchpad
• Access to both of these options can be controlled using the Catalog,
Groups and Roles Concepts
• To create these tiles, you must create Tiles with the Static App

Integration of SAP
S/4HANA with SAP
Analysis for Microsoft
Office

INTERNAL – SAP and Customers only 50

Integration of SAP S/4HANA with SAP Analysis for Microsoft Office
SAP Analytics for Microsoft Office Overview

• SAP Analysis for Microsoft Office was introduced as the

flagship OLAP tool for SAP BW users who required multi-
dimensional reporting on their BW data sources and who
wanted to work in a familiar environment (Microsoft Excel).
• SAP Analysis for Microsoft Office replaced the very
famous Business Explorer (BEx) Analyzer. A key
difference between BEx Analyzer and SAP Analysis for
Microsoft Office is that the latter can consume data from
sources other than SAP BW. This includes the CDS views
of the virtual data model of SAP S/4HANA embedded
analytics.
• Specifically, the type of CDS views that can be consumed
by SAP Analysis for Microsoft Office are analytical queries
(CDS views with the annotation @Analytics.query:true
and also CDS views of the type cube (CDS views with the
annotation @Analytics.dataCategory: #CUBE.

Integration of SAP S/4HANA with SAP Analysis for Microsoft Office
AO Overview

• There are many reasons to implement SAP Analysis for Microsoft Office with SAP S/4HANA embedded
analytics, including the following:
• Integrate data from any sources, not just SAP S/4HANA, to create mash-up worksheets and
workbooks.
• Present SAP S/4HANA data in a format familiar to most users.
• Work with SAP S/4HANA data offline.
• Expert business users can include their own local calculations using native Excel formulas and
additional logic using visual basic macros.
• Use SAP planning capabilities with SAP S/4HANA data.
• Work with advanced charting capabilities.
• Take workbooks anywhere: SAP Analysis for Microsoft Office workbooks are very portable and can
easily be stored locally or on secure platforms such as BusinessObjects Platform.

SAP Fiori Launchpad
Designer

INTERNAL – SAP and Customers only 63

SAP Fiori Launchpad Designer
Overview

• You use the SAP Fiori launchpad designer to manage

catalogs, groups, and tiles.
• Before you can run the launchpad designer, you need
to make several prerequisite configurations. See Initial
Setup of the Launchpad Designer.
• The launchpad designer is the standard tool for:
• Configuring the tiles for static app launchers,
dynamic app launchers, and target mapping.
• Creating pre-configured groups and catalogs for
the home page.
• Transporting the configurations via correction
requests / packages or customizing workbench.
Few features in Launchpad designer are deprecated.

• The launchpad designer is designed to optimally work

on desktop. This application can be launched in any of
the following browsers:
• Internet Explorer 9 and above
• Safari
• Mozilla Firefox
• Chrome

SAP Fiori Launchpad Designer
Flow of Usage

• The flow of usage for launchpad designer is mentioned below:

• Ensure that the apps that you want to configure have valid roles and are registered correctly
in LPD_CUST entries.
• Administrators would first use the launchpad designer to configure tiles, catalogs, groups, and
transport them to target systems.
• Administrators would then communicate the various tile instances, catalog names, and group
name to the PFCG administrator so that the tiles, catalogs, and groups can be assigned to
roles.
• The administrator can then test the actual rendering of the groups in the launchpad runtime.

SAP Fiori Launchpad Designer
Designer Components

What is SAP Fiori Catalog?

• A catalog is a set of Tiles / Applications you want to make available for one role. Depending on the role and
the catalogs assigned to the role, users can browse through the catalogs and choose the Tiles /
Applications that they want to display on the entry page of the SAP Fiori launchpad.
What is Business Group?
• A group is a subset of Applications from one or more catalogs. Which tiles are displayed on a user’s Home
page depends on the groups assigned to the user’s role. In addition, the user can personalize the entry
SAP Fiori Page by adding or removing Applications to pre-delivered groups or self-defined groups.
Why to Create a Custom Role?
• If we use SAP Standard Role End User / Business User will be getting lots of other Application which are
not required actually and His / Her Home page will end up messy with lots of business groups and
Applications
