MEANING & DEFINITION
A course may be defined as a complete series of studies leading to graduation or a degree.
It could also mean any of the seperate units of instruction in a subject made of lectures &
classes.
When all the relevant subject matters are organized under one course heading it refers to
planning course of instruction.
PRINCIPLES
1. State the objectives in behavioural terms, which has to be achieved.
2. Establish sequence
3. Organize the content focusing on the students rather than subject matter.
4. It should allow for individual differences & according to the level of the students.
5. There should be a logic in organizing units & also should allow for problem solving.
6. Promote cumulative learning.
7. Integration
8. Avoid repetition
9. The course should provide variety in modes of learning.
PURPOSE
Teacher plan the units of work & the lesson for each course, linking it to previous
learning of the students as well as related to the needs of students.
Without planning there will be little unity & cohesion in what is being learnt.
ELEMENTS OF COURSE PLANNING
1. Objectives
2. Specification of level of learner
3. Placement in the curriculum
4. Resource material needed for the course.
5. Unit plans
6. Evaluation measures
7. Bibliography.
