Priming activities Checking of attendance
Conduct a review with the previous topic and ask them to answer the following:
1.ELICIT 1. Who can give me a recap about yesterday’s discussion? (Answers may vary)
(Recall/ Priming/ Drill)
2. What do we mean by heat? How about temperature? (Alright, when we say
heat it is the total amount of energy present, while temperature tells us how
hot or cold of an object on a scale.)

2.ENGAGE  Begin the class by asking students what they understand about heat and its
(Establish and/or present lesson
goals/Connect)
sources.
Video Presentation

Guide questions:
1. What was the video all about? (Alright, they are sources of heat)
2. Who can give me one sources of light? (Okay, the sun.)
3. How does the sunlight provide heat to the Earth, and what are some everyday
examples of its effects? (Sunlight provides heat to the Earth by transferring its
energy through radiation, which is absorbed by the Earth's surface and
converted into heat energy.)
4. So what do you think will be our topic for today? (Sources of heat) That’s right
our topic for today is all about sources of heat.
Presentation of the topic and lesson objectives.

GROUP ACTIVITY
3.EXPLORE (Activity) Activity: Think-Share
Direction: Based on the video, write the different sources of heat on the chart below.

SOURCES OF HEAT

Ask Learners:
1. How did you find the activity? (Interesting, Challenging etc.)
2. What was the activity all about? (The activity was all about sound)
3. What are those sources you have posted on the board? (Answers may vary.)
4. Do you think all of those are sources of heat? (Answers may vary)
5. What specific names of sources of heat do you think they belong to?
(Answers may vary)
4.EXPLAIN (Analysis) UNIT III
MODULE 6
HEAT

Sources of Heat

Heat is an energy that is transferred from one object to another due to the
difference in their temperature, or simply ‘energy in transit’.

1. Combustion
Burning fuels like wood, coal, natural gas, and oil produces heat energy. This
process is widely used for heating homes, cooking, and generating
electricity.
Examples:
Wood, coal, natural gas, oil, charcoal etc.

2. Electrical Heating
It is a process in which electrical energy is converted into heat energy to
raise the temperature of a material or space.
Examples:
Electrical resistance in appliances like electric heaters, stoves, and ovens
converts electrical energy into heat energy.

3. Friction
When objects rub against each other, friction generates heat. This
phenomenon is used in various applications like starting fires by rubbing
sticks together and braking systems in vehicles.

4. Solar Energy
The Sun emits radiant heat energy, which can be captured and used for
heating purposes through solar panels and passive solar design in buildings.
5.ELABORATE (Abstraction) Let’s try this!
Direction: Below are four pics linked by one word. Work out what the word is from
the list of letters given below the pictures. Afterwards, identify the word if it is an
example of combustion, electrical heating, solar energy, and friction sources of light.
1. 2. 3.

N_T_R_L G_S

10.

ANSWER KEY: _ _TTL_

1. Natural Gas – Combustion
2. Solar Panel – Solar Energy
3. Bread Toaster – Electrical Heating
4. Fire - Combustion
5. Charcoal – Combustion
6. Electrical Bulb – Electrical Heating
7. Skating – Friction
8. Calculator –Solar Energy
9. 9. Writing – Friction
10. Kettle – Electrical Heating

Follow-up Question:
“What are some human-made sources of heat?”
Ans: Some human-made sources of heat generation include: Nuclear power plants
utilizing nuclear fission reactions, industrial processes such as smelting, refining, and
manufacturing operations, and many more.

APPLICATION Ask Learners:

Think about the impact of each light source on the environmental and society. “What
is the impact of each light source of heat to the environment and society?”
6.EVALUATION (Assessment) Activity: Identification
Directions: Give what is asked and answer the following questions in a ¼ sheet of
paper.

1. An energy that is transferred from one object to another.

2. A source of heat that is used for heating purposes through solar panels and
passive solar design in buildings.
3. When objects rub against each other, ___________ generates heat.
4. It refers to the process of generating heat using electricity as the energy
source.
5. It is commonly associated with burning, and it is the primary method by
which most fuels, including wood, coal, oil, natural gas, and gasoline are
consumed to produce heat.
Answer Key:
(Heat, Solar Energy, Friction, Electrical Heating, and Combustion)

7.EXTEND (Assignment) Direction: On a ½ crosswise, reflect on the importance of different sources of heat.
Why is it important to know how heat is produced from various sources? (100
words).
