RUN 30”, 24” CASING AND CEMENT STINGER
Date: August, 2013.
People: Driller and his entire crew, TP, forklift operator, crane operator, roustabouts.
Equipment: Handling tools, casing tongs, master bushing inserts, slinging, false rotary,
fill up line, crane, forklift, casing, HWDP, chains and boomers, rubber protectors.
Location: Rig floor, catwalk, pipe racks
Practice:
1. The running tools will be third party equipment. The TP checks the tools as they
arrive to make sure they are the correct size and in good condition.
2. Operator company arranges to have the casing delivered.
3. The AD supervises the preparing of the casing. The forklift operator sets it on the
pipe racks and the roustabouts remove the protectors, drift the casing and clean the
threads. This casing is heavy so get help to roll it and block it so it can’t move to
remove the protectors and put on centralizing equipment.
4. Clean the floor area of any unneeded equipment. Wash the floor.
5. Spot the crane on the off driller side. Inspect the slings and shackles before using
them.
6. Hook up the fill up line. Run a line from the hole fill pump. DO NOT fill the
casing with the mud pump.
7. Hold a pre-task meeting with both crews to review the rig up procedure.
8. The driller and crew rig the floor to run casing with the third party casing crew.
Remove the rubber floor mats. Bring the 30”casing tongs to the floor. Hang them
on the off driller side air hoist after the air hoist is no longer needed. The line for the
air hoist needs to be held over towards the derrick ladder with a sling and sheave up
about monkey board height. Hook up the snub lines and the make up chain on the
make up tongs. Hang the side door elevators facing the catwalk.
9. Pull the master bushings and set the correct bushings in place (or the spider slips.)
Chain the spider slips to provide back up when torquing up the casing
10. Rig up the working platforms.
11. Bring up a 75 foot ¾” sling. Shackle one end to the driller side Sampson post on the
top pad eye and run it through a shackle in the same place on the other side, then
connect to the monkey board air hoist. This line will be used to tail in the casing and
hold it while the protector is removed.
12. Re-set the low stop on the Block Control System (BCS).
13. Once rigged up and before picking up the first joint, get everybody together for a
pre-task meeting to review the TRA and to clarify how to run in the casing step by
step.
14. Sling the crane to the float joint. Tie a tag line to the pin end. This will allow the
roustabouts to control the pin end from the ground.
15. Lower the blocks to a few feet above the floor.

16. Pick up the casing and boom it over the floor. One man signals the crane. Line up
the box end over the elevators. The roustabouts on the ground will need to steer the
pin end to line it up straight.
17. Pick up on the blocks to help close the elevators. Take the sling from the V-door and
shackle it to the door of the elevators. Pick the door up and lower it quickly to help
latch it. Then remove the sling and shackle it to the Sampson posts for the next joint.
18. Lift the blocks and let down on the casing with the crane until the pin end rests on
the V-door. If the elevators are not against the collar, slowly lower the crane and
raise the blocks until it becomes free and the joint moves down until the collar sits on
the elevator.
19. Remove the slings by sliding them open so they will fall off the bottom. Tail the
joint in with the air hoist and the sling.
20. Remove the protector. Lower the protectors to the catwalk with the tag line.
21. Lower the casing into the hole until the float is below the table.
22. Continue to lower the joint, stop to install centralizers. Install the centralizers on the
cellar cover in the sub area. Make sure all men involved are wearing safety
harnesses connected to a retractable.
23. Set the slips.
24. Fill each joint with the fill up hose (or per the game plan). Stick the hose in, send
mud down the hose by turning on the hole fill pump. Do not fill the last joint to
allow for the stinger and HWDP to displace without overflowing the casing.
25. Pick up the second joint of casing same as the first and stab it into the first. Pick up
and put on the power tongs.
26. Hammer the four locks in on the collar.
27. RIH and set slips and fill as above. Pull up and back down to make sure the float is
working.
28. Run in all the casing.
29. Set the last joint as low as possible and set the slips. Leave the side door elevators
latched. Remove the bales from the elevators.
30. Send the casing tongs to the catwalk and have the forklift remove them.
31. Center the casing to the table. Use the air hoist and snatch block. Sling to the
casing and pull the slips to center.
32. Set the last joint as low as possible and set the slips. Release the spider elevators and
lift them out of the way with the blocks.
33. Measure and cut off the casing above the slips. Use the single joint elevators
connected to the spider elevators to hold the cut off. Cut a hole at the bottom of the
section in the elevators to shackle the crane too and a hole on each side of the stump
for laying the section below the table down to weld on section A. Also, weld a 2”
nipple with a 1502 just above the slips to fill the back side during the cement job.
34. Set the false rotary on the casing stump and secure with chains. Cover the hole.
35. Lower the elevators onto the false rotary and remove the bolts from the link locks.
36. Remove the elevators with the crane.
37. Change back to the regular elevator links.
38. Install the DP elevators.

39. Connect the air hoist to the pipe spinner.
40. Pick up the first stand of HWDP. (See the TRA for RIH.) Screw the stinger on the
stand. Hold the stand back with the monkey board hoist through the bottom shackle
on the V-door post. Put the rig tongs on and tighten the stinger up.
41. Run the stand in the hole and install the DP centralizers. Set the DP slips in the false
rotary.
42. Pick up the next stand and stab it in the stump. Pick up the spinner with the air hoist.
And put it on. Put on the back up tongs and spin the stand in. Engage the spinner
slowly to start. Put on the make up tongs and torque them up. RIH all.
43. Space out the string for landing the stinger. Install the side entry sub with a TIW on
top and a pup joint in the elevators.
44. Make up the required chicsans. Hook up to the stand pipe if circulating is required.
45. Circulate as required by the company man.
46. Hold a pre-task meeting with the cementers, the company man, TP and rig crew. Fill
out a work permit and do the steps of the high pressure checklist for the pressure test
on the cementers’ lines.
47. Hook up the cementers.
48. The cementers test their lines.
49. Sting in.
50. The cementers pump the cement per the well program.
51. Drain the diverter/conductor and flush it with water as required.
52. Empty the cellar with the cellar jet.
53. Rig out the cementers. There may be a back flow and there can be a spray of mud
when removing the lines.
54. POOH. Make sure that there are no stands plugged with contaminated mud or
cement. Wash the stands out from above with a one inch hose. Wrap plastic around
the stands when breaking them off to control the mud dropping out of the stand.
55. Rig out the false rotary.
56. Re-set the BCS low and high stops before the next operations.
