4. LV Circuits and Distribution boards sizing
Each lighting point is considered with its actual power consumption, including
ballast loss if any.
o Socket outlets are attributed with 200W load each.
o Motors and other loads are considered with their estimated loads.
o Light points are grouped into final circuits not to exceed 10A single-phase circuit
breakers at the maximum in the majority of cases.
o Socket outlets not exceeding eight in numbers are grouped into one circuit with 16A
single-phase circuit breakers. -Motor and power outlets are each put in a circuit
protected by appropriately sized circuit breakers.
o Each distribution panel is sized after summing all the loads connected to it, and
depending on the size of the board 70 to 80 percent, diversity is allowed.

5. Cables and Conductor sizing
CURRENT CARRYING CAPACITY
-Load current of each circuit is calculated by;
Ib=P/Vcosø for single phase and
Ib= P/√3Vcosø for three phase
Where; Ib is the load current in amperes
P is the connected load in watts , V is the phase voltage in volts
Cosø is the power factor of the current
The current carrying capacity of the cable is determined from standard tables according to
IEC 60364, which take into consideration the conductor type, insulation and sheath type, and
method of installation.
Cables are installed on cable tray, on vertical riser duct, and inside PVC conduit recessed
inside slab and/or wall. Appropriate current carrying capacity tables give current carrying
capacity of cables. The ambient temperature is taken to be 30°C and cables are not bunched
together inside a conduit.
The basic criterion is;
Ib ≤ Iz Where; Ib is the load current and
Iz is the current carrying capacity of the cable under
specified condition.
-Circuit breakers overload protection is decided by the criterion;
Ib ≤ In ≤ Iz Where, In is the rated current of the circuit breaker
If ≤ 1.45Iz, If is the current that insures circuit breaker operation in standard condition.
6. Lighting
Lighting of the entire building is proposed to use light fixtures with energy saving compact
fluorescent lamps, and regular fluorescent tube lamps with electronic ballasts with HPF
=0.90 or greater, completely avoiding incandescent lamps.
Parking areas, commercial interiors, such as shops, and restaurants, as well as general
purpose offices and other interior lighting utilize fluorescent lamps of the cool-white color
temperature 3000°K (type DISANO 875 Comfort T8-matt 151104-08, FL 2 x 36W ML or
equivalent.).

Smoke and heat detectors are used in the ceiling to monitor the incidence of fire.
Loop mounted electronic sounders are used exclusively to minimize wiring and to eliminate
voltage drop problem.
A short circuit isolator is mounted on the loop to localize short circuit faults. All fire alarm
circuits are wired through fire resistant cabling in fire resistant conduits recessed inside slabs
or solid walls. If for any reason part of a fire alarm circuit has to run surface mounted, then it
shall be passed inside steel conduit of appropriate diameter. Under no circumstance shall
fire alarm lines be run exposed, or inside surface mounted PVC conduits.

11. Lightning Protection System
A lightning protection system will be installed to cover all above ground installations of the
building. This protection will comply with the IEC 62 305 standards. The system shall have an
impedance of less than 10 Ohms.
Conventional lightning arrester system is provided to protect the buildings by from direct
lightning strike. This is achieved by providing air termination copper rods on the protruding
parts of the monument. Down copper-conductors of PVC covered copper tape (color tape to
be defined by the architect) for size of 1 x 50 mmsq are bonded to the air termination and
testing point at 1.80m above the finished ground floor level. The testing point is provided to
simplify earth electrode testing in the future. Finally, the earth conductors complete the

CALCULATION OF NUMBER OF LIGHT FITTINGS
FIRST - FOURTH FLOOR number of light fittings to illuminate bed room-2 area size of 3.65m length by 2.6m width,
and the room height is 3.0meters.
Step-1 Define the Em - the required (recommended) illuminance for the bed room room .(standard table value) Em= 200 lux
Step-2 Select the type of light fixture to use for the bed room , 22W LED LAMP
and define the Flux emitted by the lamp(s) in lumen ( standard table value) F= 1 x 1200 1200 lux
