JURISTQUEST 2025?
Regional Inclusivity: For the first time, JuristQuest allows teams to
present their arguments in their native languages (Tamil, Kannada,
Malayalam, Telugu) up to the quarterfinals, making the competition more
inclusive for law students across South India.
National and International Exposure: The semifinals and finals will be
held in English, ensuring that participants are prepared to engage in legal
discourse at a global level.
Networking Opportunities: Interaction with esteemed Judges, legal
professionals and academicians at every stage of the competition.
MOOT COURT
RULES AND GUIDELINES

PARTICIPATION & ELIGIBILITY


Participation is open to all law students (3 years LL. B or 5 years LL. B integrated
course) from any law college/department/university recognized by the Bar Council
of India; AND

All participants must be currently enrolled in a recognized law school or institution


in Southern states of India (Tamil Nadu & Puducherry, Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra
Pradesh & Telangana); AND

Participants may represent their teams in regional languages (Tamil, Kannada,


Malayalam, or Telugu) up to the quarterfinals. From the semifinals onward, however,
the competition will be conducted in English.

Team Registration: More than one team per institution may register for the
competition.
Team Dynamics: Each team can have up to three members: two speakers and one
researcher. The researcher is not allowed to present arguments during the Oral
Rounds under any circumstances.

Once registration is completed, no changes to the composition of a team shall be


permitted. Any modification may be allowed only with the express approval of the
Organizing Committee, at its sole discretion.

Disclosure of Identity: Teams shall not disclose the identity of their institution. Such
disclosure shall invite penalties, including disqualification. The decision for the same
shall be at the discretion of the Organizing Committee. The Teams will be given Team
codes after completion of the registration process.

REGISTRATION
Registration Details:
Start Date: 15th July 2025
Deadline: Teams must complete online registration through the official JuristQuest
portal by 15th August 2025.

Registration Fee: ₹3,000 per team (₹2500 for all govt institutions), which includes
access to the moot court materials, participation in the event and the official
JuristQuest 2025 guidelines. Once the Registration is complete, no Refunds would
be initiated.

MODE OF THE COMPETITION


The Preliminary and Quarterfinal Rounds of the Competition shall be conducted
virtually via the JurisQuest platform, scheduled from 15th September 2025 to 30th
September 2025. The Organizing Committee reserves the right to alter the mode of
the Competition, subject to prevailing circumstances. In the event of any such
modification, participants shall be duly informed in advance.

The Semifinal Rounds of the Competition shall be conducted between 25th and 30th
October 2025, while the Final Round is scheduled to be held on 26th November 2025.

MOOT CLARIFICATION
Participants may submit their queries or seek clarifications regarding the moot
proposition through the JuristQuest portal on or before 15th August 2025.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Soft Copy Submission:
The soft copies of the Petitioner’s and
Respondent’s Memorial (of all rounds) must be
uploaded on the JurisQuest Portal in PDF format
on or before 31st August 2025.

Additional Hard Copy Submission (for


Semifinals and Finals):
Teams qualifying for the Semifinal and Final
Rounds are required to submit hard copies of
their memorials on the day of the draw of lots.

Each team must submit:


2 hard copies of the Petitioner’s Memorial,
and
2 hard copies of the Respondent’s Memorial.

The memorial is required to contain the following sections:

MEMORIAL FORMATTING
Page Limits:
The sections on Summary of Arguments Advanced and Prayer shall not exceed 30
pages. Penalty: 1 point will be deducted for each additional page.
The total length of the memorial, including the cover page, shall not exceed 40
pages. Penalty: 2 points will be deducted for each additional page.
Citation Format:
All citations must conform to the 21st edition of the Bluebook.
Speaking footnotes and endnotes are strictly prohibited. Penalty: 1 point will be
deducted for each instance of non-compliance.
Cover Page Requirements:
The cover page of each memorial must display the team registration code in the
upper right-hand corner.
The code must be followed by the letter ‘P’ for the Petitioner’s Memorial and ‘R’ for
the Respondent’s Memorial. Penalty: 1 point will be deducted for failure to comply.

The scoring of rounds shall be based solely on the oral presentations made by the
teams. However, in the event of a tie between two teams, the team with the higher
memorial score shall be ranked higher.

SUBMISSION RULES
1. All soft copies of the memorial submitted must be in PDF Format.
2. Each memorial should be contained in a single file with the name of the file being
the allocated team code followed by the letter P for the Petitioner (Cover page in
blue colour) and R for the Respondent (Cover page in red colour) shall be the
file name of the soft copy of the Memorials. For Example, for College with
Team Code 01 the file names shall be 01P.pdf for Petitioner Side, and 01R.pdf for
Respondent Side.
3. All pages of the memorial must be of A4 size, with a 1-inch margin on each side. The
font style and size of the text of all parts of the memorial, excluding the Cover Page,
shall be Times New Roman, font size 12, with 1.5-line spacing. The Footnotes shall be in
Times New Roman, font size 10, single line spacing. The memorials must be spiral
bound.
4. All the memorials need to be printed on one side in A4 size sheets.
5. Participating teams must comply with the clause of anonymity as is mandated. The
memorial must at no stage reveal the name of the participants, institution, or any
personal details of the teams.
6. All memorials will go through a strict plagiarism and AI check and upon the
detection of plagiarism, either by manual review or software analysis, the
committee shall issue a notice to the participating team, requiring them to show
cause as to why sanctions should not be imposed. If found guilty, the organizing
committee reserves the right to impose appropriate penalties, which may include,
but are not limited to, point deductions or disqualification from the competition.

Penalties for non-compliance with memorial format:


A penalty of 1 point per hour shall be imposed for any submission made past the
deadline specified.
Non-compliance with rules (1) and (2) shall result in a penalty of 5 points.
Non-compliance with rule (3) shall result in a penalty of 1 point per error.
Non-Compliance with rule (4) shall lead to immediate disqualification.

RESEARCHER’S TEST
The Researcher’s Test shall be conducted only for teams that qualify for the
Semifinal Rounds.
Team members who have registered as a Researcher, shall have a Researcher's test.
The test will be for a duration of 45 minutes.
Researchers are individually assessed, based on their performance in the
Researcher's test. The Award for Best Researcher shall be decided by this rank list.
In case of a tie for the Best Researcher Award, the Researchers' scores will be calculated
as follows: Memorial Score + Marks Obtained in Researcher's Test = Final Score
The Researcher’s Test will consist of 27 questions, with 25 questions carrying 2 marks
each and 2 “star- marked” questions carrying 5 marks each. The star-marked
questions will be written and will only be considered in the event of a tie.
The Researcher's test scores will be used as a tiebreaker for other rounds.

COMPETITION FORMAT
The entire competition shall be in hybrid mode (virtual/onsite) as defined below:

Quarter-Final Round (Virtual - JuristQuest portal)
Semi-Final Round (Onsite - Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad and Cochin)
Final Round (Onsite- Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai) (Winners of each state would
qualify for the Final round)

TIME LIMIT
Preliminary & Quarterfinal Rounds:
Each Team will have a maximum of 15 minutes to present their arguments, including
rebuttals and sur-rebuttals. This includes time for speaking in regional languages.
Semifinals:
Each Team will have a maximum of 25 minutes to present their arguments in English,
including rebuttals and sur-rebuttals.
Finals:
Each Team will have a maximum of 40 minutes to present their arguments in English,
including rebuttals and sur-rebuttals.

DISPUTES
Any dispute about the Moot Court Competition shall be
referred to the Organizing Committee before
commencement of next round of the competition. Any
dispute regarding Final Round shall be raised within fifteen
minutes after the conclusion of the round. In all matters of
objections and complaints, the decision of the Organizing
Committee shall be final and binding.

The official Dress Code for the Competition is as below:
Gentlemen: Black Trouser, White Shirt, Black Blazer, Black Tie and Black
Formal Shoes.
Ladies: Black Trouser, White Shirt, Black Blazer and Black Formal Shoes

AWARDS
Finals – Title Winner - Cash Prize of 1,00,000 Rupees + Trophies +
Complimentary access to the JuristQuest Exclusive International Legal
Immersion Program + Certificate of Merit.
1st Runner-Up - Cash Prize of 50,000 Rupees + Trophies + 50% Concession
on the JuristQuest Exclusive International Legal Immersion Program +
Certificate of Merit.
Finals - 2nd Runner-Up (3rd & 4th Place) - Cash Prize of 25,000 Rupees +
Certificate of Merit.
Note: The 2nd Runner-Up category includes state winners from the semi-final
rounds who do not place in the top 2 during the finals.
Quarterfinal Winners / Semifinal Entrants – (All teams advancing to the
semi-finals will receive) Cash Prize of 3,000 rupees + Certificate of Merit.
SPECIAL AWARDS
Best Memorial: Cash Prize of 5,000 Rupees + Trophies +
Certificate of Merit (Open to all teams participating in the competition)
Best Researcher: Cash Prize of 5,000 Rupees + Trophies + Certificate of Merit
(Among the teams that advance to the semi-finals)
Best Speaker: Cash Prize of 5,000 Rupees + Trophies + Certificate of Merit
(Among the teams that advance to the semi-finals)

ADDITIONAL BENEFITS
All registered JuristQuest participants are eligible for internship opportunities in
the corporate sector. These internships are offered on a first-come, first-served
basis.

IMPORTANT CLARIFICATIONS
Cash Prize Distribution:

Cash prizes for each stage will be awarded at the conclusion of the Finals.
Teams advancing to subsequent stages will only be eligible for the awards
corresponding to their current stage. Previous stage prizes will not be
carried forward.
(For example: If a team qualifies for the semi-finals and ultimately places
in the top 4, they will not receive the ₹3,000 prize for advancing to the
semifinals/winners of quarterfinals. Instead, they will be awarded ₹25,000
as top semi-finalists/state winners.)

Eligibility for Awards:

Teams advancing to each subsequent round will be eligible only for the
specific prizes designated for that stage.
JuristQuest Legal
Immersion Program
JuristQuest Legal Immersion Program is designed to provide students with an
unparalleled opportunity to experience the global legal ecosystem.

A one-day visit to the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC):


This immersive experience offers students the chance to witness firsthand
t h e workings o f a r e n o w n e d international arbitration institution. They will
gain insights into international dispute resolution, a critical area of global legal
practice.
A two-day visit to Malaysian courts: Students will engage in a
comprehensive learning experience at Malaysian courts, exploring the legal
system, understanding its unique processes, and learning about
comparative legal practices between India and Malaysia.

ACCOMMODATION
(ONLY FOR FINALISTS)

Outstation participants will be provided accommodation for the duration of the


competition. Only the three (3) registered members of the team shall be
provided accommodation. Any extra member shall make his/her own
arrangements for the same. Girls and boys will be allotted separate
accommodations. They have to maintain strict discipline and desist from
causing any annoyance, disturbance or any other inconvenience to other guests
staying in the lodging or the management of the lodging. Any violation of this
rule by any member of the team will lead to disqualification of the team without
refund of registration fees and they will have to arrange for their own
accommodation.
GENERAL RULES
AND CODE OF CONDUCT
Scouting shall lead to instant disqualification of the team.
Moot problem, being the property of Jurist Quest, shall not be used by any
other college, institution, or individual etc., without the written permission
of Jurist Quest.
The organizers shall not provide any travel allowance or conveyance to the
participating teams.
The organizers reserve the right to use, publish, or reproduce any
memorials submitted, in any manner deemed appropriate, after the
conclusion of the competition.
All participants are expected to maintain decorum and conduct
themselves in a manner befitting members of the legal profession, both
within and outside the Court Hall.

Use of mobile phones in any form during the competition is strictly
prohibited. Violations may lead to deduction of marks or disqualification,
depending on the severity.
Consumption of tobacco or any intoxicating products is strictly forbidden in
the venue.
The organizers reserve the right to alter, modify, amend, add to or change
any of the rules mentioned above and also date of competition at any time
without any prior notice.
