Questions from your text week (eBook chapters 1 & 2)
Chapter 1:
Q1: From the organisation's perspective, list at least two pros and cons of recruiting
internally and recruiting externally. Are you currently working or were you employed in
the past? Discuss how you were recruited for each of these jobs. If you didn't hold/hold
any job/s, where can you look for one?
From the organization’s perspective, recruiting internally offers them opportunities to
save time and costs spent on the hiring process as internal candidates require less
effort for onboarding and training (Indeed Editorial Team, 2022). Moreover, they are
already familiar with the organization’s culture, value, and operating processes, which
will foster a smoother transition and effective operation. However, internal recruitment
can demotivate other staff who are not selected, posing a potential threat of
discouraging their working spirit and creating a sense of self-depreciation. Also, as
hiring the available employees, there are fewer abilities of bringing breakthrough and
innovative ideas.
On the other hand, external recruitment allows the organization to work with fresh talent
who have diverse viewpoints and creative ideas to enhance organizational innovation
and drive change (Zall, 2023). Furthermore, it also expands the talent pool, increasing
the probability of finding highly qualified candidates for the positions. Nevertheless,
external hires require more time and resources of the organization to process and can
pose higher costs due to extensive recruitment efforts and training. A risk of mismatch
between organizational culture and new employee’s personalities can affect the overall
working environment and productivity.
As for my own experience, although I have not held an official job yet, I still have been
actively preparing for my career path by researching and exploring different job
opportunities related to my major. I frequently visit different job platforms such as
LinkedIn or TopCV to stay updated on internship and graduate programs as well as
understand the job requirements for these positions to have careful preparation.
Additionally, joining groups offering advice and recruiting information on social media
platforms like Facebook also help me to update valuable opportunities and have clearer
direction for my career.
Chapter 2:
Q 2. Assuming you are seeking a job with a multinational company in Japan, India, Fiji,
Vietnam, Singapore or Canada for five years. What abilities will make you successful in
working in an overseas country?
Working for a multinational company in another country, besides the high requirements
of specialized knowledge and skills, soft skills related to communication and cultures
are also important. Strong cross-cultural communication skills are essential for working
in diverse workplaces and effectively communicating with colleagues and customers
from different nations. Not only language but also an open mindset about different
cultures could support me to communicate and build professional relationships when
working in a multinational environment. Moreover, emotional intelligence such as self-
awareness or empathy is important to manage personal and professional challenges
when working in a foreign country (Reynolds, 2016). I also need to develop my
adaptability and be ready to learn new things from a totally new environment in order to
balance between life and performance efficiently when changing the environment.

Reading 1: Workforce of the future: The competing forces shaping 2030
1. Please summarise key features of the Four Worlds of Work in 2030
Four worlds of work represent four future scenarios based on two dimensions:
collectivism vs individualism and integration vs fragmentation
a. The yellow world: Humans come first - Collectivism and Fragmentation
This world emphasizes fairness and value community. Workers join together in small
communities and work that is meaningful, creative, socially responsible and fit with their
own passion. Technology supports work but cannot replace the importance of human
interaction.
b. The red world: Innovation rules - Individualism and Fragmentation
This is a highly innovation-driven environment where people work themselves or small
companies. There are few regulations because success depends on speed and the
level of risk they can take. Everyone in the red world is chasing big ideas and fast
money, which means there is no job security but outcomes are based on creativity and
technical skills.
c. The blue world: Corporate is king - Individualism and Integration
Blue world is dominated by large global companies. Only top performers could thrive in
this world where they prioritize using technology to improve their productivity. High
rewards are available, but pressure is also high, which forces workers to be
continuously monitored.
d. The green world: Companies care - Collectivism and Integration
There is a strong focus on ethics, sustainability, and fairness. Companies highly
prioritize the environment and social impact, therefore, work is more flexible and family-
friendly. People are proud to work for businesses that reflect their personal value. In the
green world, technology is used in a safe and responsible way, showcasing the
importance of trust and fairness outweighing profit.
2. In one or two paragraphs, discuss how digital and artificial intelligence is changing
work.
Digital technology and artificial intelligence are significantly transforming how people
work (Sandoval, 2024). Most of the simple and repetitive tasks are now automated,
allowing people to focus on more creative and complicated tasks. Thanks to
technological advances, the productivity of work has increased noticeably with faster
decision making, saving more time, and increasing working accuracy. However, AI also
poses a huge threat to people of being replaced and laid off. Therefore, to succeed in
the digitized future, workers need to update new skills set related to technology in order
to use AI effectively for complex tasks that AI cannot process.
Vietnam Economic News (from week prior to week 1)
Please read Vietnam Economic News from the above dates and provide a summary
(any one article and one paragraph) on any article that relates to your profession,
career/employment or ethical issues. Vietnam Economic News is available from web
site http://ven.vn/
The article “Vietnam’s stock market eyes billion-dollar inflows from international
upgrade” (Vietnam Economic News, 2025) discusses Vietnam’s potential improvement
from a frontier to an emerging market in 2025. According to BIDV Securities, changes in
the global market this year will help Vietnam to build up an increased macroeconomic
foundation. However, with the implementation of President Donald Trump 2.0 policies,
there will be a pressure and huge threat to emerging markets like Vietnam, leading to
potential volatility that Vietnam needs to deal with. Under these significant
transformations, Vietnam is currently upgrading three important aspects, including
institutions, infrastructure, and human resources to maintain sustainable economic
growth. Therefore, it could increase the confidence of investors into the Vietnam stock
market, facilitating Vietnam to turn to a new development phase.
Portfolio Reflection Week 1
Provide 100 to 150 words of reflection on your learning from the homework questions.
You may reflect on the question(s) you particularly engaged with and your work
experiences.
This week’s learning made me realize how quickly the world is changing, especially in
my finance field, affected by numerous factors like politics or technology. What sticks to
my mind was from guest speaker Sharon Taylor's that we cannot exactly predict the
future of work, but we can stay flexible on the prepared plan. Moreover, three career-
related videos clarify to me that jobs are evolving, and success depends on how well I
can prepare and adapt to changes. I used to think having a clear plan is enough, but
now I understand that being open to changes and adjusting my plan appropriately is
more important. For example, while technology might replace some positions, it also
creates new ones that require skills like number literacy or machine learning. I am
motivated to focus more on digital tools and keep learning to stay relevant to the
developments of the financial industry.
