MEMO-221261 REV D

FSE NOTICE
No. 6 Title: UMB/Mobility Assembly System Type: iU22/iE33

NOTE 1: Replacing a UMB with 7600 video card to UMB with 9800.

If replacing a UMB with 7600 video cards for the first time with a UMB with 9800 video card
then reinstalling software from pre-loaded program drive or DVD is required.
NOTE 2: Preliminary setups
If installing new pre-loaded drives: Verify there is no diskette in the DVD drive or Error 1 will occur during
software installation. Only reloading software from diskette or replacing the hard drive can correct this error!
If installing new pre-loaded drives or s/w from diskette:
Enter BIOS and verify the date and time are correct.
Set Hardware Memory Hole to “Enabled”, if the software is 6.X and above set the BIOS Software Memory Hole to
“Enabled”.
After software loading is complete, return to BIOS and set the Hardware Memory Hole to “Disabled” or the
customer will receive Error 602 and the system will not work.

Leaving the Hardware Memory hole “Disabled” will make the system display Error 602 after the software is
fully loaded.
Correct this by returning to BIOS and enabling the Hardware Memory hole. After the system boots up
completely, reboot the system again, re-enter BIOS, and reset the Hardware Memory Hole to “Disabled”.

For UMB assemblies with SW level 6.X and above the “Load Optimal Defaults” button in BIOS does not
work correctly. Please set the BIOS Software Memory Hole to “Enabled” or the customer will receive Error
602 and the system will not work.

NOTE 3: Software Error

When installing new programmed hard drives a mismatch of the software level during the software initialization
of the UMB assembly may generate a boot-up error, typically an EHA 200, 201, 227, 503, or 505. It may also
generate an EHA 200 error during use or may fail the Data Path Test. These errors indicating the FEC PCB
needs re-initialization of its onboard operating files.

To complete proper updating of the FEC operating files, manually run the “Reinstallembedded.JS FEC”
command for the FEC from the MTE.

If replacing a UMB with 7600 video cards for the first time with a UMB with 9800 video card then reinstalling
software from pre-loaded program drive or DVD is required.

NOTE 4: Hardware Error or Stretched Video Display

A hardware mismatch error may occur because of installation of different DSC, Graphic cards, or UAVIO PCB’s.
The video displayed on the monitor may also be very large or stretched.
A mismatch between the hardware levels programmed into these hard drives may not match the hardware
configuration of the Customer’s UMB or EMB. This may generate a boot up error, typically an EHA 020, 516, 518,
or 535 indicating the PCB’s need to have their drivers updated. To update the drivers:

 Enter Windows using MTE.

 In the DOS window, type “Devmgmt.msc” and then
press Enter. Device Manager Window appears.
 Navigate to “Other devices” and look for yellow question mark icons

 Right click on the first yellow question mark icon under the “Other devices” question mark.
Choose “update driver”.
 At the question, “Can Windows connect to Windows Update to search for
software?” Click on “No, Not at this time”
 Select “Install the software automatically”.
 Follow the onscreen instructions for loading the drivers until completion.
 Right click on the second yellow question mark icon under the “Other devices” question mark (if
present) and choose “update driver”.
 At the question, “Can Windows connect to Windows Update to search for
software?” Click on “No, Not at this time”
 Select “install the software automatically”
 Follow the onscreen directions for loading the drivers
until completion.
 Verify that “Other devices” disappears from the Device
Manager.
 After successfully updating the drivers, reboot the system and verify there is no banner
error displayed.
 Correct any Error 020 that may occur indicating a Hardware Configuration mismatch:

 Log into “Tech Admin” and run “Check / Update Configuration”

 Place a check mark next to any hardware listed that does not match.
 Reboot the system, verify the date and time are correct, and perform system functionality testing.
 If this UMB assembly fails to completely boot-up or to function properly, it may indicate a failure in
another part of the system. Before proceeding further, reseat the system’s connectors, cables and re-
check the seating of ALL PCB assemblies and connectors. These can become unseated during the
troubleshooting process and system use.

A visual inspection is not sufficient; physically check each PCB for proper seating.

NOTE 5: Do not return UMB hard drives with UMB assembly. Repackage the returning hard drives in
the provided packaging.
Fill out Failure Information Forms for UMB and hard drives.
NOTE 6: Do not swap the hard drive tower as it has a serial number on it. The serial number label
MUST remain with the UMB assembly.
