Assignment: Uniform Motion
1. A particle moves along a circle of radius R. It starts from A moves in anticlockwise
direction. Calculate the distance traveled by the particle (a) from A to B (b) from A to
C (c) from A to D (d) in one complete revolution. Also calculate the displacement in each
case.

2. A car travels a distance ‘A’ to ‘B’ at a speed of 40 kmph and returns to ‘A’ at a speed
of 30 kmph. (i) What is the average speed for the whole journey? (ii) What is the
average velocity?

3. A man walks on a straight road from his home to a market 3 kms. away with a speed
of 6 kmph, finding the market closed he instantly returns and walks back with speed
of 9 kmph. What is the (a) magnitude of average velocity (b) average speed of the
man during the interval of time (i) 0 to 30 min. (ii) 0 to 50 min. (iii) 0 to 40 min.

4. A ship moves due east at 12 kmph for one hour and then returns exactly towards
south to move for one hour at 5 kmph. Calculate its average velocity for the given
motion.

5. A car travels along a straight line with 40 kmph from A to B and returns back from B
to A with speed 60 kmph. Find the average speed of the car and its average velocity.

6. A car traveled first third of a distance ‘x’ at a speed of 10 kmph and the second third

after every 500 m. Starting from a given turn, specify the displacement of the
motorist at the third, sixth and eighth turn. Compare the magnitude of the
displacement with the total path length covered by the motorist in each case.
9. A passenger arriving in a new town wishes to go from the station to a hotel located
10 km away on a straight road from the station. A dishonest cabman takes him along
a circuitous path 23 km long in 28 min. What is (a) the average speed of the taxi (b)
the magnitude of the average velocity?

1. A tennis ball is dropped on to the floor from a height of 4.00 m. It rebounds to a
height of 3.00 m. If the ball was in contact with the floor for 0.01 sec what was its
average acceleration during the impact? (1652 m/s2)
2. A body travels a distance of 2 m in 2 seconds and 2.2 m in next 4 seconds. What will
be the velocity of the object at the end of 7th sec. from the start? (0.1 ms-1)
3. A ball thrown vertically upwards with a speed of 19.6 m/s from the top of a tower
returns to the earth in 6 sec. Find the height of the tower. (58.8 m)

distance shall it travel in the 15th sec? (36 m)
5. From the top of a tower 100 m in height a ball is dropped and the same time another
ball is projected vertically upwards from the ground with a velocity of 25 m/s. Find

6. A parachutist bails out from an aeroplane and after dropping through a distance of
40 m opens the parachute and decelerates at 2 m/s -2. If he reaches the ground with a

7. A body is dropped from rest at a height of 150 m and simultaneously, another body is
dropped from rest from a point 100 m above the ground. What is the difference

8. An athlete runs a distance of 1500 m in the following manner (a) starting from rest
he accelerates uniformly at 2m/s2 till he covers a distance of 900 m (b) He then runs
the remaining distance of 600 m at the uniform speed developed. Calculate the time
taken by him to cover the two parts of the distance covered. Also find the time,
when he is at the centre of the track. (30,10,27.39)
9. A balloon is ascending at the rate of 14 m/s at a height of 98 m above the ground,
when a packet is dropped from the balloon. After how much time and with what
velocity does it reach the ground? (6.123s, 4.99 m/s)
10. A stone is dropped from the top of a cliff and is found to travel 44.1 m in the last
second before it reaches the ground. Find the height of the cliff. (122.5m)
11. A juggler maintains four balls in motion, making each of them to raise a height of 20
m from his hand. What time interval should he maintain, for the proper distance
between them? (1 s)
12. The distance x of a particle moving in one dimension, under the action of a force is
related to time as (t – 3)2 = x where x is in meters and t in sec. Find the displacement
of the particle when its velocity is zero. (Zero)

motion?

motion.
