Chapter 4 COMMGR
4.1 Overview
The drivers listed in the COMMGR window are communications connected to the
computer. When you add a new driver and set the communication parameter for it,
COMMGR creates a connection to the communication port specified for that driver.
Whenever the computer restarts, COMMGR also starts the driver automatically.
However, if the connectivity of the driver created is lost (for example, the Ethernet
Network card or the USB connection cable is removed), COMMGR stops the driver
and displays Error status for the driver. Once the connectivity is back, the driver
status will be OK again. An example for Error status is shown in the following figure.
1. Click Edit > New Driver in the menu bar or click the icon in the toolbar.
the Driver setup window displays as shown in the following figure.
13
Chapter 4 COMMGR
2. Enter Driver Name, select Connection Setup - Type and set the
Communication Protocol parameters as explained in the following sections.
Driver Name
Enter a name in the Driver Name field. A driver name can be of maximum 31
characters. Special characters such as *, #, ?, \, %, @ and etc. cannot be used
except _.
User can select a connection type in Type drop-down list. The connection types
supported by COMMGR are shown in the following figure.

Click the icon in the toolbar, the communication driver is created, and the
newly created Driver is displayed in the Routing Tree Window, as shown in the
following figure.
Pre-requisite:
• The connection between the computer and the PLC has been established
and is working properly.
2. When the Driver Setup window is opened, the information about the
communication ports in the Windows Device Manager is retrieved once.
However, the information in the COM Port drop-down list will not be updated. If
a device is added to the computer system after the Driver Setup window is
opened, the device will not be displayed in the COM Port drop-down list.
17
Chapter 4 COMMGR
In order to establish connection between computer and the device with RS-232,
install the driver and connect the device and computer with respective

2. Select Simulator in the Type drop-down list in the Connection Setup section.
NOTE:
You can create several Simulator drivers. But there are limitations in run mode.
Maximum of following simulators can run at same time.
• 4 AS300 simulators
• 4 AS200 simulators
• 4 AH simulators
• 16 DVP simulators
(Total 28 simulators can run at the same time.)
66
Chapter 4 COMMGR
When the maximum limit for creating drivers of particular type is reached, COMMGR
will display the pop-up as shown in the following figure.
As long as the device and the computer is connected, COMMGR will start executing
automatically; there is no need to do any extra setup. Only simulator drivers need to
be set the start or stop mode.
Example:
If you want to start AS300 Simulator Driver, they can select the respective driver in
the COMMGR window, and right-click the driver to open its context menu and select
Start. The description of the Simulator driver changes to the status as shown in the
following figure.
67
Chapter 4 COMMGR
If you want to stop a running Simulator driver in the COMMGR window, they can
select the driver and right-click the driver to open its context menu and click Stop.
When stopped, the description of the driver changes to the status as shown in the
following figure.
When the device is connected to the computer normally, you can search for the
connected device in COMMGR.
If the created driver is normally connected to the computer, click the icon in front of the
driver in the Routing Tree Window to start searching for the device connected to the
driver. The search range can be modified to the settings in the driver, as shown in the
following figure. After the modification, the setting of the driver must be saved to take
effect.
68
Chapter 4 COMMGR
When the device is offline, if you search again, the offline device will remain in the
list, but an error symbol will be displayed in front of the device , indicating that the
device is not properly connected. At this time, you can check the connection status
again to perform a search, or right-click the device in the Routing Tree Window and
select Delete the device, as shown in the following figure.
COMMGR can perform device scan, which means that the computer can search
commands through the controller to the equipment connected to the controller, and
you can directly set the controller and the device connected to it, without changing
the field wiring. When the controller supports the device scan function (such as
AS332T), you can expand the node through the controller to continue searching.
Take AS332T as an example shown in the following figure. You can expand RS485
(COM1, COM2, Function Card), Ethernet or CANopen nodes, and click in front of
each node to search for connected devices.
69
Chapter 4 COMMGR
NOTE: If the driver is Serial Port, the device scan for the same Serial Port can no
longer be performed; when the driver is Ethernet, the device scan for Ethernet
cannot be performed again.
For the search range, right-click the Device Scan on each node to open the Device
Scan Range Setting window, as shown in the following figure. After entering the
values, click OK to take effect.
70
Chapter 4 COMMGR
When you need to continuously search for the status of the online device, you can
click in the toolbar to open the automatic search. After the automatic search
is turned on, the icon will be grayed out and you can no longer click it. Then click
in front of the driver in the Routing Tree Window. It will continue to search for the
device status of this driver.
When a new device is connected, the Routing Tree Window will display the new
device; when the device is not connected normally, an error symbol will be
displayed on the screen immediately. At this time, you can check the connection
status and perform the search again, or in the Routing Tree Window, right-click on
the device and select Delete.
When you want to stop the continuous automatic search, click in the
toolbar to close the automatic search function, and the continuous search for all the
device status of the drivers will be stopped.
