9. A Kenyan Non- Governmental organization (NGO) company received a donation of


340,000 US Dollar . The money was converted into Kenyan shillings in a bank which
buys and sells foreign currencies as follows.

(a) Calculate the amount of money in Kenya shillings the NGO received. (1 mark)

(b) The NGO used 80% of the donation to buy a machine from Japan.
Calculate the cost of the machine to the nearest Japanese Yen. (2 marks)

10. Using a pair of compass and ruler only, construct a triangle PQR such that PQ = 7.0 cm;
PQR = 450 and PR = 8.4 cm. Measure the lengths QR. (4 marks)

11. Solve for x given – = (3 marks)

12. An arc of the sector is given as 33 cm. The angle at the centre is º. If the radius is
35 cm. Determine the value of . (3 marks)

13. A faulty watch loses 2 seconds every minute. It is set to read correct time om Monday
at 8.00 am. What time will it show on Friday noon of the same week. (3 marks).

14. A prism has a triangular uniform cross-section . The sides of the triangle are each
2 cm. If the length of the prism is 3 cm. Draw an accurate net of the prism. (4 marks)

15. Find the area of a triangle of sides 11 cm, 12 cm and 11 cm.


Give your answer correct to four significant figures. (3 marks)

16. Two doctors A and B work at a chicken pox vaccination centre. Doctor A take 4 minutes to
vaccinate a patient while doctor B takes 3 minutes to vaccinate a patient. At what tine will the
two doctors finish vaccinating 168 patients if they start working at 7.38 am. (4 marks)

Answer ALL THE FIVE questions in this section in the spaces provide
17. (a) Triangle T1 has vertices at A( (1, -1), B(3, -1) and C(1, 2)
Draw triangle T1 on the grid below. (2 mark).

(b) Reflect triangle T1 in the line x = 0 to obtain its image T2. Draw and state the
coordinates of T2 ; A’B’C’. (3 marks).

(c) T2 is given a positive quarter turn about the origin, to obtain its image T3; A’’B’’C’’.
Draw and state the coordinates of T3 (3 marks).

(e) State triangles that are


(i) directly congruent. (1 mark)

(ii) Oppositely (indirectly) congruent. (1 mark)

18. (a) Complete the tables below for the equations x + 2y = 5 and 2x + y = 7.

20. A school P is 0400 and 30 km from a school R. A dispensary D is 1400 and 27 km from
school R. Village Q is 0300 and 40 km from D.

21. A farmer’s milk container has a rectangular base of sides 44 cm by 49 cm and a height of
120 cm.
(a) Calculate the capacity of this container. (2 marks)

(b) A cylindrical container of height 20 cm and base radius 7 cm is used to fill the tank with milk.
(i) Calculate the volume of the cylindrical container. (2 marks)

(ii How many full cylindrical containers will fill the tank with milk. (2 marks)

(c) One day the farmer did not get enough milk to fill his milk container. He got 62 cylindrical
containers full of milk. What fraction of the milk container was not filled with milk. (4 marks)
