Week 8 PETA WEEK

Performance Task: "Build Our Mini Playground!"

GOAL:
G Your goal is to help design a mini playground for your class using your math skills! You will need to measure objects using things around you (like paper clips or pencils), add numbers up to 100, and
break numbers into tens and ones to plan what you can build.
ROLE:
R
You are a young playground planner. You are working with a team of other young planners to help the school decide what to build in a small area outside your classroom.
AUDIENCE:
A
Your audience is your teacher and classmates, who will review your playground plan and decide if it can be used to create a real mini playground in the class or school yard!
SITUATION:
The school is planning to build a mini playground just for Grade 1 students. They need your help to plan what goes in it. You will:
Measure and compare the length of different classroom or outdoor items using non-standard units like string, paper clips, or popsicle sticks.
S
Break down the number of materials (e.g., 42 blocks = 4 tens and 2 ones) to help decide how many parts are needed.
Add up all the items you'll use (slides, swings, etc.) and make sure the total doesn’t go over 100 pieces.

PRODUCT:
1. Create a Playground Plan Poster that includes:
2. Drawings of at least three playground items you want to build (like a swing, slide, or see-saw).
3. The lengths or sizes of the parts using non-standard units.
P
4. A list of all the materials needed (with how many tens and ones).
5. The total number of materials (make sure it adds up to 100 or less).
6. A short explanation (can be written with help or recorded) of why your playground plan is fun and fair for your classmates.

S STANDARDS FOR EVALUATION (RUBRICS AND CRITERIA):

Your Playground Plan Poster will be checked if:
You used non-standard units correctly to measure and compare.
You broke numbers into tens and ones clearly and correctly.
You added numbers up to 100 and stayed within the limit.
Your playground plan is organized, creative, and makes sense.
You explained your choices in a clear and simple way.
Let’s build a mini playground that everyone will love—using your amazing math brain!

GRADE 1 – DATA AND PROBABILITY (DP) & NUMBER AND ALGEBRA (NA 3RD QUARTER

1. The learners should have knowledge and understanding of a pictograph without a scale for the representation of data.
CONTENT STANDARD 2. The learners should have knowledge and understanding of subtraction of numbers where both numbers are less than 100
3. The learners should have knowledge and understanding of repeating patterns.
21
1. By the end of the quarter, the learners are able to represent and interpret data in a pictograph without a scale. (DP)
PERFORMANCE STANDARD 2. By the end of the quarter, the learners are able to perform subtraction of numbers where both numbers are less than 100. (NA)
3. By the end of the quarter, the learners are able to extend existing repeating patterns and create new repeating patterns. (NA)
1. The learners collect data in one variable through a simple interview.
2. The learners present data in a pictograph without a scale.
3. The learners interpret a pictograph without a scale.
4. The learners organize data in a pictograph without a scale into a table.
5. The learners illustrate subtraction involving numbers up to 20 using a variety of concrete and pictorial models, and describes subtraction as
“taking away.”
6. The learners find the missing number in addition or subtraction sentences involving numbers up to 20
7. The learners write an equivalent expression to a given addition or subtraction expression (e.g., 2+3 = 1+4; 10-5 = 6-1).
LEARNING COMPETENCIES
8. The learners solve subtraction problems (given orally or in pictures) where both numbers are less than 20.
9. The learners subtract numbers where both numbers are less than 100 using concrete and pictorial models, without regrouping:
a. 2-digit minus 1-digit numbers, and

Week 8 PETA WEEK

Performance Task: “Let’s Plan a Classroom Party!”

GOAL:
G
You will help plan our classroom party by collecting information from your classmates, using subtraction to prepare snacks and decorations, and making colorful patterns for the party design!
ROLE:
R
You are the Party Planner! Your job is to organize what your classmates like, what we need, and how everything should look.
AUDIENCE:
A
Your audience is your classmates and your teacher, who are all excited about the classroom party!
SITUATION:
S Our class is having a small party to celebrate learning. But first, we need to find out what snacks everyone likes, figure out how much we need (and how much we already have), and make decorations
using fun repeating patterns.
PRODUCT:
You will make a Party Planning Poster that shows:
A pictograph without a scale showing what snacks your classmates like (e.g., how many like cookies, bananas, juice, etc.).
P
A subtraction story showing how many more things we need. For example: “We need 30 cups, but we only have 18. How many more do we need?”
A patterned border or banner using repeating shapes, colors, or objects (like red-blue-red-blue, or star-heart-star-heart).
