Buried Valves
1. SUMMARY

Section Includes:
1. This section includes general duty pre-insulated buried valves for district cooling underground
piping networks.
2. Material description and application for Valves.
3. Installation instructions for Buried Valve system.

2. SUBMITTALS

General:
A. Submit the following in accordance with Conditions of Contract, Product data, including body
material, valve design, pressure and temperature classification, end connection details, sealing
materials, trim material and arrangement, dimensions and required clearances, and installation
instructions.
B. Comply with Tender Invitation documents.
C. Products must have the European/American standard certifications.
Product Data:
A. Manufacturer's specifications and technical data including performance, construction, and
fabrication. Submit product data for each manufactured component.
B. Shop Drawings:
1. Indicate dimensions, description of materials and finishes, general construction, specific
modifications, component connections, anchorage methods, hardware,and installation
procedures, including specific requirements indicated.
2. Submit shop drawings for each system or assembly.
3. Submittal format: Both hardcopy and softcopy shall be provided. The number of copies
shall be as per contract requirements.
4. Hardcopies shall be submitted in proper folders including transmittal reference number,project
name, revisions, index of contents, ...

The following documents shall be included in the submittal as minimum:


1. Company profile
2. Project Specification Compliance Statement
3. Trade License
4. Project Reference List
5. Test & Quality Certificates
6. Catalogues, datasheets, drawings, ...
7. Ensure the quality, drawing sizes, font size, ... of all attachments are suitable andreadable.
8. All pages on hardcopy shall be stamped by the manufacturer/supplier.
9. All items/models shall be clearly indicated and highlighted.
10. Provided a Soft copy including all submittal contents.
11. Softcopy of all drawing attachments shall be in AutoCAD & PDF format.

3. APPROVED MANUFACTURES
A. VEXVE/NAVAL – Finland, Mueller – USA, Danfoss – Denmark.
B. Subject to Engineer approval.
4. VALVES FEATURES
GENERAL

1. Valves shall be pre-insulated similar to the some of the straight pipe and fittings and installed
directly buried underground, designed to operate from the ground level and to be hydraulic
maneuvered type.
2. Valves 200mm and larger to be gear drive operated, on quarter-turn. Gear box to be designed at least
120% of valves maximum torque.
3. Welding EN(DIN) DN 25 to 500 be reduced bore type.
4. Incase stem is located deep, then loose stem extension and planetary gearbox shall be supplied.
5. Long stem valves should be supplied with mounting flange and locking ring.
6. Valves open counterclockwise and close clockwise.
7. Top of spindle to be hexagon as per EN488.
8. Valves to be installed and bolted with stem in vertical position for ball type and horizontal.
9. position for Butterfly type. The stem to be with position indicator.
10. Valves to have flanged ends and stem extensions that suit buried application as per site requirements.
Primary stem extensions to be welded onto the valve body to stand.
11. possible vertical bending forces against the stem.
12. Pressure rating: to suit system pressure and temperature of PN16 end of the line application.
13. Temperature rating: valves shall properly operate at ambient temperature of 0 oC to 60 oC.
14. Sizes: Same size as upstream pipe / full bore type, unless otherwise indicated.
15. Extended Stems: Where insulation is indicated or specified, provide extended stems arrange to
receive insulation.
16. Buried Valves to have Butt weld End Connections.
17. PN 16-25 graded.

6. QUALITY ASSURANCE
Single Source Responsibility:
A. Provide valves of the same type by same manufacturer.
B. Valve manufacturers should have ISO 9000 approval for design and manufacturing and CE approval
certificate.
C. Seating test certificates and MIL test certificates to be supplied for specific valves.
D. Provide valves with manufacturers name and pressure rating clearly marked on valve body.

E. Pre-insulated valve elements to comply with EN488 up to 400 mm. Finite element analysis to be
applied for sizes above 400 mm.
F. Valves to be manufactured in accordance with Pressure Equipment Directive (PED 79/23/EC)
G. Valves conform with leak tightness as per EN12266-1.
H. Manufacturer to have a minimum of 10 years’ experience in the supply of pre-insulated valves.

7. WARRANTY
A. Manufacturer’s Warranty: Provide a written warranty signed by unit manufacturer and countersigned
by local agent for each purchased unit and must be inclusive of unit’s serial number and delivery /
commissioning dates, agreeing to furnish parts for any component failure within the specified
warranty period.
B. The warranty documents shall clearly define the following:

E. Detailed unit(s) serial and model numbers
F. Warranty starts and end dates.
G. Spare parts and labor
H. Consumables
I. Service and maintenance conditions

Warranty Period:
A. The manufacturer shall warrant the Valves for a period of 10 years starting after the delivery.
B. Response and Repair commitment as per Emicool instructions (will be duly received and agreed).

A. DELIVERY, STORAGE & HANDLING


B. Preparation for Transport: Prepare valves for shipping as follows:
C. Ensure valves are dry and internally protected against rust and corrosion.
D. Protect valve ends against damage to wel-end preps.
E. Set valves in best position for handling. Set ball valves open to minimize exposure of functional
surfaces; set butterfly valves closed or slightly open.
F. Storage: Use the following precautions during storage:
G. Do not remove valve end protectors unless necessary for inspection, then re-install for storage.
H. Protect valves from weather and store the valves indoors. Maintain valve temperature higher than the
ambient dew point temperature. If outdoor storage is necessary, support valves off the ground or
pavement in watertight enclosures.
I. Handling: Use a sling to handle valves whose size requires handling by crane of lift. Rig valves to
avoid damage of exposed valves parts. Do not use hand-wheels and stems as lifting or rigging point.

8. SPARE PARTS
A. Provide a complete list of Spare for each model/type of the purchased valves with the cost of these parts
as a separate line item along with the bid document for O&M purpose.
B. The supplier shall keep in his stock those spare parts that have a lead time of over sixty (60) calendar
days.
C. Prices of the spare parts and consumables need to be maintained at within 5% annually and must not
exceed 10% annually.

9. VALVE INSTALLATIONS
A. Follow & comply with Engineer instructions, drawing, employer requirements anywhere else mentioned
in the contract.
B. Provide isolating valves on all water piping system sectionalized and branches. Isolation valves to be ball
or butterfly type.
C. Install valves in horizontal piping with stems at or above the center of the pipe.
D. Supply the Planet gear key for above 200mm Buried valves.
E. Install valves in a position to allow full stem movement.
F. A concrete valve pit along with access cover to be provided for each valve.
G. Air vent Pipes with sleeves, HDP shrink jacket and foam insulation to be provided for the vent pipes.
H. Proper materials tagging to be provided.
I. Valve pit must have the heavy-duty Manhole covers (600mm clear open) and engraved tagging.
J. Valves protection is optional case by case.
K. GRP seal plate to be provided.
