Staying at home for a long time can make you feel bored or stressed. But it can also be a good
chance to use your time well and improve your English. If you want to practise speaking more
fluently and stay connected to the world through English news, videos, and games, try the tips
below.
To begin with, make a success plan to help you get the greatest results from your English practice
at home before you begin. Think about your strengths as well as what you wish to improve. Answer
whether you can combine your interests and hobbies with your English studies. Then decide what
you will do each day to accomplish your goals.
As for tools, YouTube may help you learn a new skill or hobby. YouTube is an excellent tool for
this, and watching videos in English will not only provide you with a fun new activity, but will also
help you improve your listening abilities.

Additionally, you may get extra practice by downloading a language learning app. Convert your
smartphone into a mini-classroom by downloading an English-learning software. Although apps
cannot replace a real-life teacher, they can help you get started in the correct way. You can use
computer programmes to practise your speaking skills in a chat room or to learn new vocabulary.
Whatever your needed things are, rest certain that there will be an app for it.

Tourism will always have an impact on the places visited. Sometimes the impact is good, but often
it is negative. For example, if lots of people visit one place, then this can damage the environment.
The question is - how can we minimize the problems without preventing people from travelling
and visiting places?
The main aim of ecotourism is to reduce the negative impact that tourism has on the environment
and local people. The idea is to encourage tourists to think about what they do when they visit a
place.
It's great to talk about protecting the environment, but how do you actually do this? There are a
number of key points. Tourists shouldn't drop litter, they should stay on the paths, they shouldn't
interfere with wildlife and they should respect local customs and traditions.
Some people see ecotourism as a contradiction. They say that any tourism needs infrastructure -
roads, airports and hotels. The more tourists that visit a place, the more of these are needed and, by
building more of these, you can't avoid damaging the environment.
But, of course, things aren't so black and white. Living in a place of natural beauty doesn't mean
that you shouldn't benefit from things like better roads. As long as the improvements benefit the
local people and not just the tourists, and the local communities are consulted on plans and changes,
then is there really a problem?
In 2002 the United Nations celebrated the "International Year of Ecotourism". Over the past twenty
years, more and more people have started taking eco-holidays. In countries such as Ecuador, Nepal,
Costa Rica and Kenya, ecotourism represents a significant proportion of the tourist industry.
Question 16: What is the main idea of the passage?
A. Benefits and drawbacks of ecotourism
B. A brief introduction about ecotourism
C. Serious problems in developing ecotourism
D. Some negative effects of ecotourists
Question 17: In paragraph 1, the word "it" refers to ____.
A. environment B. tourism C. damage D. impact
Question 18: According to the passage, what does the ecotourism aim at?
A. reducing the tourism problems B. finding a new form of tourism

to protect the environment?
A. not interfering with wildlife B. traveling by electric car
C. respecting local culture D. not littering
