Introduction
Toshiba Transmission & Distribution Systems Asia Sdn. Bhd. (TTDA) is one of the leading engineering, technology
and innovation enterprise in the power transmission & distribution (T&D) industry. TTDA, being a subsidiary of
Toshiba Corporation’s T&D worldwide operation is a manufacturer of Medium Voltage (MV) T&D substation
equipment with experience in undertaking utility and industrial based project applications. The quality of the
products designed, manufactured and installed by TTDA is supported by the ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management
System and our commitment to the environment is supported by the ISO 14001:2004 Environmental Management
System.
Toshiba's HVZ Series is a modular, single busbar Metal-Clad Air Insulated Switchgear (AIS) that is factory assembled
and fully type tested. The switchgear design features a floor-rolled, withdrawable Vacuum Circuit Breaker (VCB).
Metal partitions segregate the various compartments and the live parts are air-insulated of extension, which makes
it simple for selection of components required for any application. The functional units of the switchgear are
guaranteed arc proof in accordance with IEC 62271-200 Standards. All installation, operation and maintenance
operations can be carried out in front of the AIS with the VCB compartment door closed.
Application
Toshiba’s HVZ Series provides centralized power distribution control, protection and monitoring of medium voltage
electrical power equipment and circuits in industrial, commercial and utility installations involving generators,
motors, feeder circuits, and transmission and distribution lines.
The pre-engineered modules are designed for easy integration into standard solutions and fully customizable
configurations. This advantage has shown its full flexibility with configuration, control, measuring and protection
systems which enables the switchgear to be installed under various circumstances. Moreover, this product is
independently certified by international based certified short-circuit test laboratories which enhances its proven
reliability.
In terms of applications, Toshiba's HVZ Series is installed .in high voltage and medium voltage substations for power
distribution systems in large cities, urban, industrial areas and transport infrastructures such as railway power
systems. In addition, specialized large scale processes in industries such as petrochemical, oil and gas, metals and
mining will need switchgears to help them in distributing their high demanding power applications. Offering the
highest levels of reliability and quality, The HVZ Series is the ultimate solution for these power system applications.

Design Concept
HVZ Series is designed & manufactured with the operator's safety
as the top priority while providing:
• Minimum maintenance
• Easy installation
• A simple but flexible design
HVZ Series has passed all the mandatory tests stated in IEC
standard. In addition, it has also passed the stringent tests to IEC
highest endurance class like electrical endurance class E2 (list 1),
mechanical endurance class M2, and Capacitive Switching
Performance class C2 in accordance to the latest IEC 62271-100
(previously known as IEC 60056) and internal arc fault test for the
operator's safety.
HVZ Series also offers high power supply reliability during the
maintenance of the circuit breaker with minimum loss of service
continuity (Category 2B) & guarantees safety with perfectly
earthed metallic partitions.

The housing is made of powder coated sheet
steel, which is cut and folded precisely on
computer numerical controlled machines. The
housing parts are riveted/bolted together to form 3
a rigid enclosure with full segregation as below:
• Low Voltage (LV) Compartment
• VCB Compartment
• Main Busbar Compartment
• CT / Cable / Earth Switch / PT Compartment

2. VCB Compartment
3. Busbar Compartment
4. Cable Compartment
5. Multicore Cable (MCC) Box
Low Voltage Compartment
Relays, instrument and pilot devices/control
switches are mounted in the low voltage
compartment at the front of the cubicle. The
standard height of the fixed housing inclusive of
low voltage compartment is 2000m. However,
low voltage compartment with additional
height can be supplied to accommodate more
complex protection and control schemes.
Circuit Breaker Compartment
The busbar and circuit main spouts are fitted with
automatic safety shutters. The shutters are
padlockable in the closed position and both sets
of shutters can be latched open for testing or
maintenance purposes. The manual latch is
automatically cancelled when the circuit breaker
is inserted into the compartment. Circuit Breaker
is of sturdy welded bolted steel construction and
mounted on wheels for ease of movement in and
out of the circuit breaker compartment. The
circuit breaker houses the vacuum interrupters
mounted on epoxy housing. The epoxy link
connects the operating mechanism and
interrupters. The main isolating contact connects
the circuit breaker arms to busbar spouts and
circuit spouts. The Vacuum Interrupter is specially
designed to provide maximum product life span.

Construction
Busbar Compartment
The busbar is of unit length and made of high
conductivity hard drawn copper bar. The busbar is
mounted to branch busbars and supported on
epoxy spouts, which extend the supply to the
circuit breaker terminal through isolating contacts.
Although classified as air-insulated, the busbar is
covered by means of heat shrunk sleeves or epoxy
coating (upon request) throughout their length,
including the joints, to enhance insulation security.
Access to the busbar compartment is through a
bolted flapper which also acts as a pressure relief
device.
CT/Cable/Earth Switch/
PT Compartment
Main Spouts and connections from the circuit
breaker to the cable terminations are cast in
epoxy resin, which forms the primary insulation for
the ring type current transformer (CT). An earthed
screen is included on the CT fitting area. For lower
current loadings, wound primary type CT can be
accommodated.
Cabling facilities are included in this compartment,
which are suitable for either top or bottom entry
dry type termination cables. A rated full fault
make cable earthing switch is located towards the
rear of this compartment. The earth switch is
interlocked with the circuit breaker.
The earth switch is operated from the front of the
unit by means of a removable handle. Busbar
earthing is generally available in bus section unit.
Potential Transformers (PT) are mounted on the
rear of the unit, usually in the upper part of the cable
compartment. The PTs are fuse protected on both
primary and secondary side. A simplified design
incorporating primary fuse isolation is available for
operators’ convenience.
