BACKGROUND OF THE LITERARY PIECE
This literary piece is a collection of free verse poems I wrote about someone who is very
special to me—my inspiration. She is a volleyball player, and volleyball is something we both
love. It’s not just a sport for us; it’s something that brought us closer together. The poems
describe how I see her, how I feel when we’re together, and how playing volleyball has become
a part of our love story. Each poem is written from the heart, using real moments and emotions.
“She’s My Favorite Player”
She steps on the court,
Confident like the sun rising.
Everyone watches her,
But I get to cheer the loudest.
Her hands move fast,
Setting up the perfect play.
I forget the score
When she smiles my way.
She jumps like she’s flying,
Hits the ball with fire.
I stand in awe
Of her strength and grace.
We practice after class,
Just the two of us.
Every serve she makes
Hits my heart too.
When I mess up a pass,
She laughs, not to mock.
She says, “It’s okay,”
And we try again.
She makes volleyball
More than just a game.
It’s time together,
Where we both shine.
She’s more than a player—
She’s the best part of my day.
And even off the court,
She’s still my MVP.
“Our Court, Our Story”
The court is our place,
Where the world disappears.
Just me, her, and the ball,
And nothing else matters.
Her ponytail swings
As she runs for the ball.
She dives with focus,
Like she was born to do this.
I serve, she returns.
We don’t need to speak.
The rhythm of our game
Says more than words ever could.
Her laugh echoes
Through the empty court.
It fills the air
Like a warm breeze.
Sometimes we just sit
After the last point is scored.
Talking about silly things,
Or nothing at all.
She tells me stories
Of games she played before.
I listen closely,
Hanging on every word.
This court holds memories,
Not just games we’ve played.
It’s where I learned
How love can feel like teamwork.
“When She Spikes”
She rises in the air,
Like a spark in the sky.
Then comes the spike—
And I forget to breathe.
It’s not just power,
It’s passion and heart.
She plays with meaning,
Every move full of soul.
People clap and cheer,
But I smile quietly.
Because I know the girl
Behind the powerful serve.
She practices so much,
Even when she’s tired.
She never quits,
She always gives more.
I ask her once,
“Why do you love it so much?”
She says, “Because I feel free.”
And now I understand.
When she plays,
She becomes more alive.
More confident,
More her.
And every time she spikes,
She’s not just scoring points—
She’s reminding me
Why I fell for her.
“The Other Side of the Net”
Sometimes we play 1-on-1,
Just for fun, no pressure.
She says, “Ready to lose?”
And I just laugh.
She’s fast and smart,
Tricky with her moves.
But I try my best
To keep up with her.
She always wins,
But never brags.
She just high-fives me
And says, “Nice game.”
We both know
It’s not about who wins.
It’s the time together
That matters more.
She gives me tips
After every match.
Not just in volleyball,
But in life too.
Sometimes we sit
On opposite sides of the net.
But in the end,
We meet in the middle.
Because win or lose,
She’s still my teammate—
In the game,
And in my heart.
“After the Game”
After the final point,
When the gym is quiet,
She walks over smiling,
Sweat and joy on her face.
I hand her water,
She takes it, grateful.
We talk about the match,
But I just watch her glow.
She talks with her hands,
Still excited from the game.
I nod along,
Lost in the way she lights up.
We walk home together,
Bags on our backs.
She kicks a stone,
And I try to match her steps.
She asks if I’ll come
To her next game.
I say, “Of course,”
Because I always do.
The game ends,
But the feeling stays.
It’s not just her skill—
It’s who she is.
She’s my inspiration,
My partner, my favorite person.
And every day with her
Feels like a win.
