Teaching and Learning Materials

Mathematics Learning Experience for Grade 1 (C16)

Competency: Tells and writes time by hour, half-hour, and


quarter-hour using an analog clock

Session 1: Familiarize Me!!

Materials:

 Worksheet of representation of analog clock, marker

Parts of the Clock


Use the words from the box to label the

parts of the clock.

Session 2: Telling Time Relay

Materials:

 representation of analog clock/ paper clock


 markers

Procedure:

1. Divide the learners into small groups and provide each group
with an analog /paper clock and a marker.

2. Call out a time (e.g., 3 o'clock, half-past 2, quarter to 4). Each


representative will run towards the analog clock and set the
hands to the correct time. The assigned learner will tally the
scores.

3. Repeat procedure number 2 until all members of the group


take their turn.
Session 3: Made for Each Other

Materials: Matching time worksheet.

Direction: Match the digital time with the corresponding analog


clock. Draw a line using a marker to connect them.

Session 4: Know Me More!

Materials:

 whiteboard and whiteboard marker


 Representation of an analog clock

Procedure:

1. Provide learners with a whiteboard and whiteboard


marker/show-me-board.

2. Call out time randomly/show the time using an analog clock to


the learners and instruct them to write the correct time
shown/mentioned.

3. At the count of 3, learners will show the time to the teacher


and classmates, then read the answer aloud.

4. Continue the process until the learners master this skill.


Session 5: Get Ready, Time to Sing….

Materials:

 Time/Clock Song with the tune of “This is the Way”

The hands of the clock go round and round,

To tell us the time.

The shorthand of the clock goes from number to number,
