Love Song -Lana Del Rey

In the car, in the car, in the backseat, I'm your baby

We go fast, we go so fast, we don't move

I believe in a place you take me

Make you real proud of your baby

In your car, I'm a star and I'm burnin' through you

In your car, I'm a star and I'm burnin' through you

Oh, be my once in a lifetime

Lying on your chest, in my party dress

I'm a fucking mess but I

Oh, thanks for the high life

Baby, it's the best, that's a test

And yes, now I'm here with you and I

Would like to think that you would stick around

You know that I'd just die to make you proud

The taste, the touch, the way we love

It all comes down to make the sound of our love song

Dream a dream, here's a scene

Touch me anywhere 'cause I'm your baby

Grab my waist, don't waste any part

I believe that you see me for who I am

So spill my clothes on the floor of your new car

Is it safe, is it safe to just be who we are?

Is it safe, is it safe to just be who we are?

Love Song Analysis:

This poem tells the story of a person deeply in love, trying to hold on to a powerful,
emotional connection. It mixes feelings of joy, fear, love, and vulnerability. The speaker often
calls themselves “your baby” showing they want to be cared for and loved. Being “In the back
seat” shows trust and letting someone else take control. There’s a lot of figurative language that
shows how intense the relationship feels. For example,in the line “I’m a star and I’m burnin’
through you” is a metaphor. It means that Lana Del Rey feels powerful and full of passion, but
maybe also overwhelming. Another strong line is “we go fast, we go fast, we don’t move” wish
is a paradox. It shows how love can feel exciting, even when nothing is really happening. Lana
also uses imagery, like “Lying on your chest, in my party dress” and “spill my clothes on the
floor of your new car” to create a clear picture of intimate, emotional moments. These scenes
help us feel what Lana feels, close, raw and exposed. There’s also repetition, like “Is it safe to
just be who we are?”. This question shows deep insecurity and fear. Lana wants to be loved for
who she really is. Overall the poem is about love, but also about wanting to be seen, accepted,
and remembered. It turns everyday things like cars and songs into symbols of deep emotion and
connection.

Bluebird- Lana Del Rey

Little Bird, Blue Bird
Fly away for both of us
For you have wings, and I’ve no means to fly
Little Bird, bluebird
Find some strength inside my hand
Anything to let you sing goodbye

For your thoughts are small, they can’t keep you from leaving’
As the wake of my past crashes in
I hear the door slam, but the windows wide open
We both shouldn't be dealing with him

Find a way to fly

Find a way to fly
           Ramirez 6

Just shoot for the sun ‘till I can finally run

Find a way to fly

I’ve kept him at bay, but the horses are coming’

They racin’ their way ‘round the bend
Your crash landing over, but the evening is hummin’
Don’t make me say it again

Find a way to fly

Find a way to fly
Just shoot for the sun ‘til I can finally run
Find a way to fly

BlueBird Analysis:
This lyrical poem is about Lana trying to let go of a painful past by asking a “Little Blue
Bird” to fly away. The bird is a symbol for freedom or a part of Lana, who wants to escape. The
line “FLy away for both of us” shows the speaker feels stuck and is living through the bird’s
flight. This lyrical poem uses many metaphors, such as “you have wigs, and I’ve no means to
fly,” to show how lana del rey feels powerless. The phrase “shoot for the sun ‘til I can finally
run” is another metaphor, encouraging bravery even when things are dangerous. This line also
uses symbolism, the sun represents hope or freedom. Repetition is used with the line “Find a way
to fly,” which appears several times. This adds rhythm and emphasizes the main message: escape
and freedom. The lyrical poem also uses imagery, like “your crash landing over” and “the
evening is hummin’” which helps us picture the emotional and physical setting. A powerful
poetic element is the tone, it feels desperate, sad, and hopeful all at once. Lana del rey wants to
move on but is’t strong enough yet. The line “Don’t make me say it again” shows pain and
urgency. Overall, this poem combines poetic elements and figurative language to express how
hard it is to let go and how badly Lana del rey wants healing, even if it means someone else has
to fly first.

Let the light in- Lana Del Rey

Pick you up at home, quarter to three
           Ramirez 7

Ask you if you want something' to eat

Drive around, get drunk, do it over again
Wake you up at night, quarter to one
I can never stop, wanna have fun
Don't be actin' like I'm the kinda girl who can sleep

'Cause every time you say you're gonna go

I just smile, 'cause babe, I already know
You know I got nothin' under this overcoat

Ooh, let the light in

At your back door yelling 'cause I wanna come in
Ooh, turn your light on
Look at us, you and I, back at it again

Pick you up around quarter to two

Usually we got nothing' to do
Screw it, maybe you should go and record some other songs
Got my dress on tight 'cause you know that I
Look shinin' in the light, there's so much ridin'
On this life and how we write our love song

Ooh, let the light in

At your back door yelling 'cause I wanna come in
Ooh, turn your light on
Look at us, you and I back at it again

'Cause I love, to love, to love, to love you

I hate to hate, to hate, to hate you
Put The Beatles on, light the candles, go back to bed
           Ramirez 8

'Cause I wanna, wanna, wanna want you

I need to, need to, need to need you
Put the TV on and flowers in a vase, lie your head

Ooh let the light in

At your back to door yelling cause I wanna come in
Ooh, turn your light on
Look at us, you and me back at it again

Let the Light in Analysis:

This lyrical poem tells the story of a complicated, on-and-off relationship. The speaker keeps
returning to someone they love, even when things are messy. The tone is emotional, casual, and a little
chaotic, which fits the pattern of driving around, drinking, and going “back at it again.”. One major poetic
device is repetition. The phrase “Ooh, let the light in” is repeated throughout the lyrical poem, creating
rhythm and acting almost like a chorus. It also works as a symbol. “Let the Light in” could mean allowing
love, truth, or healing into their relationship. The line “you know I got nothin’ under this overcoat” is a
metaphor for vulnerability or seduction. The speaker’s lines often have a confessional tone, like “ I hate to
hate, to hate, to hate you,” which shows how love and hate mix in the relationship. This is also anaphora,
repeating the beginning of phrases for emphasis. Similarly, “I wanna, wanna, wanna want you” expresses
longing, using repetition to show emotional intensity. There’s also imagery, like “Put The Beatles on, light
the candle, go back to bed” which creates a clear, cozy scene of closeness and comfort. The iem uses free
verse, meaning there’s no fixed rhyme or meter, it feels natural like a conversation or diary entry. Overall,
this poem explores love, emotional chaos, and logging through symbolic and poetic language, giving us a
raw look at passionate but unstable relationships.

Reflection:
Lana Del Rey is a very special and different kind of writer. Her lyrics feel more like poems tan
regular songs. She often writes about love,, heartbreak, sadness, and memories. What makes her
stand out is the way she tells stories through her songs. When someone reads or listens to her
poetry, they will find deep feelings, creative word choices, and strong images. One thing lana
does really well is use metaphors and symbols. She doesn’t always say things directly, she uses
other things to represent feelings. For example, in her lyrical poem “BlueBird” the bird stands
fro freedom and maybe even a warning That bird hit her window right before she was supposed
to go on a walk with an ex-boyfriend. She saw that moment as a sign from nature telling her not
to go. Turning a real moment into a lyrical poem shows how deeply she feels and thinks. Her
poems don’t always rhyme, and she doesn’t follow a set pattern This makes her writing feel more
natural and emotional. She also repeats words or phrases to show strong feelings, like love or
pain. Her lyrical poems sound soft, sad, and beautiful, and they make you think. When someone
reads Lana Del Rey’s poetry, they can expect strong emotions, creative language, and stories
about love and life. Her writing feels like a mix of diary and a dream, and it’s easy to connect
with even if you haven’t lived the same life.
