1 Checking Indicator Status of the Storage System

View the status of indicators on the front and rear panels of devices in the storage system to check for hardware
faults.
Aside from the exceptions listed in the table, indicators that are red or off mean that a fault may have occurred.
Then, follow the instructions in appendix A "Quick Reference Table for Abnormal Indicator Status" to diagnose and
rectify the faults. If the faults persist, go to chapter 5 "Collecting Information and Reporting Faults".
For meanings of indicator status, see the following table.

2 Checking Service Status of the Storage System
Enter https://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8088 in the browser of the maintenance terminal, and press Enter.
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the management IP address of the storage system. The browser displays the login window of
the OceanStor DeviceManager.

For your first login to the DeviceManager, use the default administrator user name (admin) and password
(Admin@storage).
You are advised to change the default password immediately after you have logged in to the storage system for
the first time and periodically change your password in the future. This reduces the password leakage risks.
For details about how to modify the password, see the OceanStor V3 Series V300R006 Administrator Guide.

Follow the instructions in sections 2a and 2b to check service status of the storage system on the DeviceManager
for problems or risks.
2a Checking system information
On the System Information page, you can learn about the basic information, alarms, system capacity trend, and
performance of the storage system.
Perform the corresponding recommended actions to diagnose and rectify the faults.
If the faults are rectified, go to the next section.
If the faults persist, go to chapter 5 "Collecting Information and Reporting Faults".

2b Checking service status
Check the statuses of the major services provided by the storage system:
 Storage resource allocation: disk domain, storage pool, LUN, file system, host, mapping view and share.
 Value-added feature: Snapshot, Remote Replication, Clone, LUN Copy, HyperMirror, SmartMigration,
SmartCache, HyperMetro, and HyperVault.
Perform the corresponding recommended actions to diagnose and rectify the faults.
 If the faults are rectified, go to the next section.
 If the faults persist, go to chapter 5 "Collecting Information and Reporting Faults".

3 Checking Storage System Performance
Check the operation of the storage system though DeviceManager to get the real-time and history status of the
storage system service. When a fault occurs, you can rectify the fault in a timely manner, avoiding a service
interruption or data loss.
Click Monitor in the navigation bar of the DeviceManager, and select Performance Monitoring to check
the performance of the storage system.

It is recommended that you export the statistical performance data of the storage system on a weekly or monthly
basis. The data can be used to diagnose performance problems.

a. This table only lists recommended items. Determine whether to enable other items based on the storage system running status.
Enabling too many items may cause a slight degradation of performance in processing storage system services.
b. For some faults, the system displays alarms with IDs and recommended actions. For details about such faults, go to chapter 4
"Checking and Handling Alarms".

6
4 Checking and Handling Alarms
When a fault occurs in the storage system, the DeviceManager automatically determines the severity of the fault.
Then it sends an alarm to the maintenance engineer so that the engineer can rectify the fault in a timely manner,
avoiding a service interruption or data loss.
Click Monitor in the navigation bar of the DeviceManager, and select Alarms and Events to check and
handle newly displayed alarms.

Example

Alarms are classified into three levels by severity. The following describes the three levels in descending order of
severity:
Critical
Indicates an event that causes a service interruption or device failure. Recovery measures must be taken
Immediately.
Major
Indicates an event that affects system performance. Recovery measures must be taken to prevent greater
impacts on the storage system or system performance.
Warning
Indicates an event that imposes no impact on the storage system currently. However, the event may affect
services running in the system in the future.

Handle alarms based on rectification suggestions in descending order of severity.

If the alarms persist, go to chapter 5 "Collecting Information and Reporting Faults".

7
5 Collecting Information and Reporting Faults
If a fault occurs, follow the instructions in sections 5a through 5b to collect information in a timely manner. Then
contact Huawei technical support engineers using any method listed in section 5c.

5a Collecting information by using DeviceManager

 Collecting information about indicator status
Record the name and status of each abnormal indicator in appendix C "Maintenance Record Table".
 Collecting basic system information and service status information
Record the information on the Basic Information tab page (see section 2a).
Record any information about abnormal services in appendix C "Maintenance Record Table".

 Collecting details about the faulty parts or modules

Click System on the navigation bar of the DeviceManager. In the front view and rear view of the storage
system, check for a module marked with a red square. If a module with a red square is shown, click the module
and record the information displayed.

You can switch between the front and rear views of the device by clicking .

 Exporting system data

Click Settings on the navigation bar of the DeviceManager, and select Export Data to save Running
Data, System Log, and Disk Log to the local computer. For details, see the OceanStor V3 Series V300R006
Administrator Guide.

8
Example

5b Collecting information by using SmartKit

(1) Run the SmartKit information collection tool on the maintenance terminal. This document uses SmartKit
(formerly named Toolkit) as an example.
(2) On the SmartKit main page, choose MyTools > Storage > Routine Maintenance > Information Collection.
The Information Collection page is displayed.

9
(3) On the Information Collection page, select a device whose information you want to collect and click Collect
to start information collection.

If a device is not in the list, click Add Devices, set the basic device information and configuration information, and
add the device to the list.

10
NOTE
1. By default, among Basic information, Add Policy and Select Proxy are respectively set to Specify IP
Address (add a device by the IP address) and No Proxy, where the IP address is the IP address of the
management network port on the storage device.
2. Among Config information, the default user name and password for logging in to the storage device is
admin and Admin@storage respectively. The Port is set to 22.

(4) After the information collection is complete, you can click Open Directory on the Information Collection page
to view the collected information.

Appendix A Quick Reference Table for Abnormal Indicator Status

When an indicator indicates an abnormal state, the storage system usually generates an alarm. Handle the alarm as follows:
1. Follow the instructions in appendix A "Quick Reference Table for Abnormal Indicator Status" to diagnose and rectify the
faults.
2. If the fault cannot be rectified, use the DeviceManager to find out the cause. For details, see chapter 4 "Checking and
Handling Alarms".
