1. Network topology can influence how well data is shared or how it much security the
network has. Below is an illustration of different network topologies.

a. State the name of the network topology for each:


A Ring topology
B Bus topology

2. Networks are able to send and receive data because of agreed-upon rules. These
agreed-upon rules are called protocols.

a. Explain what HTTP protocol is used for.

HTTP (HyperText Transfer Protocol) is used for transmitting data (such


as HTML). It forms the foundation of data communication on the World
Wide Web. [1]

b. Explain what TCP/IP protocol is used for with data transmission.

TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol) is used to


manage data transmission over the Internet. TCP handles the breaking
down of data into packets and reassembling them, while IP ensures the
packets are sent to the correct destination. [2]
3. When designing a network a network administrator needs to consider how scalable it
is. Explain how the following factor is related to the scalability of a network.
a. Number of users.

As the number of users increases, the network must be able to handle


more data traffic. Typically as the number of users increases the
network struggles to serve everyone. [1]

b. Data transfer speed.

As data transfer speeds more data can be transferred. More users can
then use the network. [1]

c. Bandwidth capacity.

As bandwidth capacity increases the amount of data transferred


increases. More users can then use the network. [1]

d. Type of files (PNG, JPG, PDF, etc.)

The type of file does not affect the scalability - but the space (storage)
each file takes up does affect the scalability. [1]

4. When data is transmitted over networks it may encounter errors. Parity bits are often
used by computers to detect errors.

a. Explain how a parity check detects problems.

A parity check adds a parity bit to data to ensure the total number of 1s
is even (even parity) or odd (odd parity). It detects errors by checking if
the parity remains consistent when data is transmitted. [2]

b. Does a parity check always detect a problem correctly? Explain.

A parity check does not always detect problems accurately. It can detect
single-bit errors but fails with an even number of errors (like two bits
[flipping). [2]

c. A message is sent from Enzo to Kylie through their smartphones. The


smartphones agree on an even parity system. 3 packets of data are shared.

Which dataset will need to be kept the most secure? Explain your answer.
Jack’s Vietcombank dataset should be more secure because a bank keeps
more important documents like bank statements and records of people’s funds
and investments. [2]
6. Star formatted (restarted and removed all data from) her laptop and installed a new
operating system.

8. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is when a computer can function or simulate human
processes like thinking. One way this is achieved is by Machine Learning (ML).
Machine learning is used in weather forecasting, education, healthcare companies
and more.
Give ONE scenario for each example of how ML is used.
Weather forecasting: Predicting weather patterns using historical weather data.
