Understanding True Triumph
Triumph in Scripture: More Than Winning
I. The Foundation of Triumphant Living: Identity in Christ
A. Knowing Who You Are
Romans 8:37 declares, "In all these things we are more than conquerors through him who
loved us." Notice the present tense: "we are"—not "we will be" or "we might be."
B. The Battle for Your Mind
In 2 Corinthians 10:3-5, Paul writes, "For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as
the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the
contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and
every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every
thought to make it obedient to Christ."
Romans 12:2 urges us, "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by
the renewing of your mind
C. Living from Victory, Not for Victory
1 Samuel 17:45-47, "You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come
against you in the name of the LORD Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you
have defied... All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the
LORD saves; for the battle is the LORD's, and he will give all of you into our hands."
II. Five Biblical Principles for Triumphant Living
A. Face Your Giants with Faith-Filled Perspective
In Numbers 13-14, twelve spies were sent to explore the Promised Land. Ten returned
saying, "We can't attack those people; they are stronger than we are" (Numbers 13:31). But
Joshua and Caleb had a different perspective: "Do not be afraid of the people of the land,
because we will devour them. Their protection is gone, but the LORD is with us" (Numbers
14:9).
Isaiah 26:3 promises, "You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast,
because they trust in you."
B. Embrace the Power of Persistent Prayer
In Luke 18:1, Jesus told His disciples a parable "to show them that they should always pray
and not give up."
Ephesians 6:18 instructs us to "pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and
requests." Prayer isn't just a religious exercise—it's spiritual warfare. When we pray, we're
not just talking about our problems; we're engaging the power that can solve them.
C. Stand Firm on God's Promises
2 Peter 1:4 tells us that God "has given us his very great and precious promises, so that
through them you may participate in the divine nature."
Joshua 1:5-6, "No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with
Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you. Be strong and
courageous."
Philippians 4:19: "And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in
Christ Jesus."
29:11: "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and
not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
Isaiah 41:10: "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will
strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."
D. Maintain Endurance Through Trials
James 1:2-4 teaches, "Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials
of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let
perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything."
Romans 4:20-21 tells us, "Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of
God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God
had power to do what he had promised."
Hebrews 12:1-2 encourages us to "run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing
our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith."
E. Walk in Community and Unity
Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 reminds us, "Two are better than one, because they have a good return
for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who
falls and has no one to help them up!"
2:42-47 describes believers devoting themselves to fellowship, breaking bread together, and
having everything in common.
