PHILOSOPHY, AIMS, & OBJECTIVES OF M.Sc NURSING
PHILOSOPHY
Health is a well- being that enables a person to lead a psychologically, socially and economically productive
life. Health is not a privilege but a right of all the people. Individuals, families and communities have a
responsibility towards maintaining their health.
Nursing contributes to the health services in a vital and significant way in the health care delivery system. It
recognizes national health goals and is committed to participate in the implementation of National Health
policies and program. It aims at identifying health needs of the people, planning and providing quality care in
collaboration with other health professionals and community groups.
The Master of Science in Nursing (MSc Nursing) programme is designed on the belief that nursing is not
just a profession but a service to humanity, rooted in science, compassion, and ethics. The philosophy
emphasizes that health is a fundamental human right and nurses play a vital role in promoting, restoring, and
maintaining health at individual, family, and community levels.

AIMS OF MSC NURSING PROGRAMME
The primary aim of the MSc Nursing programme is to prepare professional nurses who can assume
leadership roles in education, practice, administration, and research.
1. Equip nurses with specialized knowledge and clinical expertise so that they can provide advanced
nursing care in hospitals and communities.
2. Prepare competent nurse educators who can train the next generation of nurses using modern teaching
methods and evidence-based practices.
3. Develop nurse administrators with the ability to plan, organize, and evaluate nursing services effectively
within health care organizations.
4. Train nurse researchers who can conduct systematic studies, generate new nursing knowledge, and apply
research findings in practice.
5. Promote leadership and decision-making skills so that MSc nurses can actively participate in health policy
formation and implementation.
7. Apply knowledge from physical, biological and behavioral sciences,medicine including Alternative
Systems and Nursing in providing nursing care to individuals, families and communities
8. Demonstrate understanding of lifestyle and other factors, which affecthealth of individuals and groups.
9. Provide Nursing Care based on steps of nursing of Nursing Process in collaboration with the individuals
and group
10. Demonstrate Critical Thinking in making Decisions in all situations inorder to provide quality care.
11. Prepare graduates to assume responsibilities as professional, competent nurses and midwives at basic
level in providing promotive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative services.

OBJECTIVES OF MSC NURSING PROGRAMME
At the end of the MSc Nursing programme, the graduate nurse will be able to:
Apply concepts from nursing theories, models, and allied sciences to deliver specialized care.
Demonstrate a broad and in-depth understanding of advanced nursing concepts, technology, and global
health trends.
Perform comprehensive health assessments and apply diagnostic reasoning to identify health problems.
Provide evidence-based interventions for individuals with acute, chronic, and critical illnesses.
Manage patients requiring specialized care in areas like obstetrics, pediatrics, psychiatric nursing,
Act as a consultant in clinical practice, guiding other health professionals and students.
3. Education Role
Plan, design, and evaluate nursing education programmes at undergraduate and diploma levels.
Use innovative teaching strategies like problem-based learning, simulation, and e-learning.
Guide and mentor nursing students, junior nurses, and staff in their professional development.
4. Research Contribution
Conduct independent research projects to address health problems and improve nursing practice.
Critically appraise research studies and integrate findings into patient care.
