 Poem

Sweetest love, I do not goe,

For wearinesse of thee,
Nor in the hope the world can show
A fitter Love for mee;
But since that I
Must dye at last, ‘tis best,
To use my selfe in jest
Thus by fain’d deaths to dye.

Yesternight the Sunne went hence,

And yet is here to day
He hath no desire nor sense,
Nor half so short a way:

Then fear not mee,

But believe that I shall make Speedier
journeys, since I take more wings
and spurred then hee.

O how feeble is mans power,

That if good fortune fall,
Cannot adde another houre
Nor a lost houre recall!
But come bad chance,
And we joyne to it our strength,
And wee teach it art and length
It selfe o’r us to advance,
When thou sigh’st thou sigh’st not winde,
But sigh’st my soule away.
When thou weep’st, unkindly kinde,
My lifes blood doth decay.
S English TARGET BOARD SPECIAL OF BIHAR

It cannot bee
That thou lov’st mee, as thou say’st
If in thine my life thou waste,
Thou art the best of mee
Let not thy divining heart
Forthinke me any ill,
Destiny may take thy part,
And may thy feares fulfil;
But thinke that wee
Are but turn’d aside to sleepe;
They who one another keepe
Alive, ne’r parted bee.

 Summary 
 ‘Sweetest Love I do not Goe’ is an outstanding love poem has been
taken from the prescribed text book Rainbow-II, composed by the
Metaphysical poet John Donne. In this poem, the poet is comforting
his wife saying that true lovers never part away.
 The poet further says that he is not tired of the relationship but is
travelling only because he wants to. He asks his beloved not to be upset
on his departure but let him go happily. He explains to her that one day
we have to part, so why not give it a trail and be ready for the final
departure (death)?
 He comforts her beloved also saying that she is very dear to him and is
the source of his existence, so this temporarily separation should not
affect her.
 He also assures her that he will return from his journey like the sun
which returns every day to spread brightness and light in this world. He
forbids his beloved to cry or sigh because her cries and sighs decay his
blood and takes away his soul from his body respectively.
