PURPOSE:

Safety equipment / PPE are provided to protect men from the exposure to
hazardous atmosphere

DETAILS: Various safety equipment installed in different locations for


personnel protection

EYE WASHER & EMERGENCY SHOWER:

These are located in area where splashing of chemicals is possible. These will
be checked by operating them to ensure that an adequate spray is emitted
from the shower head.
Access to safety showers and eye wash fountains shall never be restricted.
Functioning to be checked quarterly by Safety dept. & recorded. However, user
dept. shall ensure proper functioning

FIRST AID BOXES:

Location of the first aid boxes has been decided by facility head in consultation
with Safety Dept. and installed at locations mutually agreed upon. It contains
wound dressings, bandages and other first aid items as specified in the list
kept with personnel department / attached with first aid box. Maintaining first
aid boxes shall be the responsibility of concerned dept. head. and records
maintained in the register with user dept.

FIRE EXTINGUISHERS:

The extinguishers are provided as per Fire Protection Manual. The condition of
all firefighting equipment is checked on routine basis by Safety department
monthly and recorded by third party & available with Safety Dept. In case, the
fire extinguisher is used then it is the responsibility of the staff controlling the
fire incident to inform safety department about the use of fire extinguisher so
that the replacement / recharging can be done.

HYDRANT SYSTEM:

The fire hydrant system has been installed to provide the basic fire protection
for the facility areas. It consists of firewater pump, piping & fittings including
hydrant valves / monitor. These hydrant valves are provided at prominent
places along with Hose boxes / hose stations equipped with branch pipes/
various nozzles for firefighting.

Checking of fire pump and fittings/accessories monthly by Safety/ Security


dept.

OTHER SAFETY EQUIPMENT:

Various safety equipment available with Safety department is as follows

 Safety helmets
 Safety goggles
 Dust guard Respirators
 Hand gloves- PVC/Rubber/ Cotton
 Full body Harness
 Gum boots
 Organic Face Mask
 Spill Management Kit

These safety equipments are used by personnel while carrying out


maintenance Jobs/process operations under specific conditions. It is the
responsibility of the concerned staff to ensure that required safety equipment's
are provided to the personnel with the help of Safety department and available
with Stores.

RECORDS:

Eye washer, Emergency Shower= once in 15 days


First aid boxes= monthly
Fire extinguishers= monthly
Fire Hydrant System= monthly
PPE inspection= Monthly
