Notes on Lesson 1.3, God’s Love Revealed through Creation
Learning Targets:
I can…
• explain how creation reveals God’s love for us;
• explain that the human person is created in God’s image and likeness;
• resolve to care for creation and practice respect toward people and other creatures; &
• express gratitude to God for the gift of life through prayer and reflection.
Lesson Key Points
1. Creation as God’s First Revelation of Love
The world is God’s first and constant message of love to humanity. By looking at creation,
we see His power, order, goodness, and generosity.
Genesis 1:1-31; 2:1-25 tells how God created everything in an orderly way:
- Days 1–4: God set everything in order (light, sky, land, sun, moon, stars).
- Days 5–6: He filled the earth with living creatures, ending with man and woman.
- Day 7: God rested and blessed creation.
Romans 1:20 reminds us that God’s eternal power and divine nature are seen
in the created world.
“For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities-his eternal power
and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been
made...”
Colossians 1:16–17 shows that all things exist through and for Him.
“All things have been created through him and for him. He is before all
things, and in him all things hold together.”
Acts 17:28 tells us that Creation is a reflection God’s sustaining care.
“For in him we live and move and have our being.”
In summary: Creation itself is proof of God’s presence, love, and generosity.
2. The Human Person in God’s Image and Likeness
While all creatures reveal God, humans are unique because we are created in His image
and likeness (Genesis 1:26–27).
- This means we are persons with dignity, capable of knowing, loving, and choosing freely
(CCC 357).
- We are called to communion with God and others, reflecting His goodness in our actions.
- God entrusted humans with responsibility over creation, not for selfish use but with care
and stewardship (CSDC 113, 146).
In summary: Every person has value and dignity, so we must respect others and live
in harmony with all creation.
3. Our Responsibility as Stewards of Creation
God gave humans authority over the world, but this comes with responsibility.
- Stewardship means caring, protecting, and sustaining creation, not exploiting it.
- Practical responsibilities include:
• Using natural resources wisely.
• Reducing waste and avoiding pollution.
• Conserving water, energy, and protecting habitats.
• Treating people with fairness, respect, and compassion.
Selfishness and misuse of creation lead to destruction and suffering, which go against God’s
plan of harmony.
In summary: To honor God, we must honor His creation: nature, people, and all living beings.
4. Gratitude to God for the Gift of Creation
The proper response to God’s gifts is gratitude, expressed through:
- Prayer – thanking God daily for life, nature, and people.
- Reflection – recognizing His presence in all that exists.
- Action – living responsibly, showing respect, and caring for creation.
Conclusion / Synthesis
Creation is God’s ongoing revelation of love. The natural world speaks of His power and
generosity, and human dignity shows His image. As stewards, we are called to protect
creation, respect all people, and live responsibly. Every act of gratitude and care mirrors
God’s love and strengthens our bond with Him.
