🟦 TD Lesson Plan – 1st Year Middle School

Grammar Focus: Verb to be, subject pronouns, simple present


Duration: 50 minutes

🔹 Objectives

 Revise subject pronouns (I, you, he, she, it, we, they).
 Use the verb to be correctly in affirmative, negative, and interrogative.
 Revise simple present (habitual actions).
 Produce simple sentences about self or others.

🔹 Lesson Procedure

1. Warm-up (5 min)

 On the board, write 3 wrong sentences:


o He are happy.
o I am go to school.
o They is my friends.
 Ask: Are these correct? → Students correct them.

2. Presentation (10 min)

 Quick review:
o Verb to be: I am, You are, He/She/It is, We are, They are
o Subject pronouns: I, you, he, she, it, we, they
o Simple present: I play, she plays, they watch…
 Give 3 examples:
o I am a student.
o She is my friend.
o I play football every day.

3. Practice (controlled – 15 min)


Exercise 1: Fill in with the correct form of to be.

1. I ___ a pupil.
2. She ___ my friend.
3. They ___ in the classroom.
4. You ___ happy.
5. He ___ my teacher.

Exercise 2: Correct the mistakes.

1. We is students.
2. She am my mother.
3. They is happy.

Exercise 3: Change into negative and interrogative.

1. He is a doctor.
2. They are brothers.
3. I am a teacher.

4. Practice (less controlled – 10 min)


Dialogue completion:
A: ___ you a student?
B: Yes, I ___.
A: What ___ he doing?
B: He ___ in the classroom.

(Pairs fill in blanks and read aloud.)

5. Use (Production – 8 min)

 Students write 4–5 sentences about a classmate or family member using to be and
simple present. Example:
This is my sister. She is 10 years old. She is a student. She plays football. She is nice.
 Volunteers read aloud.

6. Wrap-up (2 min)

 Quick oral quiz: teacher asks “Are you…?” / “Is she…?” etc. Students answer.

Grammar Focus: Past Simple vs Present Perfect
Duration: 50 minutes
🔹 Objectives

 Differentiate between past simple and present perfect.


 Revise regular/irregular verbs.
 Use key adverbs (yesterday, ago, ever, never, since, for, already, yet).
 Practice through speaking and writing activities.

🔹 Lesson Procedure

1. Warm-up (5 min)

 On the board:
o I visited Oran last year.
o I have visited Oran many times.
 Ask: What’s the difference? (Students guess.)

2. Presentation (10 min)

 Teacher explains:
o Past Simple → completed actions in the past (yesterday, last week, ago).
o Present Perfect → experiences, actions with present relevance (ever, never,
already, yet, since, for).
 Show examples:
o She visited Algiers last summer.
o She has visited Algiers many times.

3. Practice (controlled – 15 min)

Exercise 1: Fill in with past simple or present perfect.

1. I (visit) Paris in 2022.


2. She (never / be) to Spain.
3. They (see) that movie yesterday.
4. We (already / finish) our homework.
5. He (go) to school last Monday.

Exercise 2: Choose the correct option.

1. I (have seen / saw) that film last night.

4. Practice (less controlled – 10 min)
Pair work interview:

 Students ask each other:


1. Have you ever eaten sushi?
2. Have you ever traveled to another city?
3. When did you last visit your grandparents?
4. What did you do last weekend?
 Report partner’s answers.

5. Use (Production – 8 min)

 Students write a short paragraph:


Write about something you have done in your life, and one specific thing you did last
week.
Example: I have visited many cities in Algeria. I have never traveled abroad. Last
week, I visited my uncle in Oran.

6. Wrap-up (2 min)

 Quick board race: teacher calls verbs (go, eat, see, live), students write both past
simple and past participle forms.
