Problem Set 7

This document is a problem set for a hydraulics course at the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines. It includes four problems related to fluid flow, including calculations for flow rates, coefficients of discharge, and discharge over a weir. Students are required to fill in their personal information and complete the problems for assessment.

1. Oil is flowing upward through a Venturi meter as shown. Assume a discharge coefficient
of 0.984. What is the rate of flow of the oil?

2. A 1.25 cm. diameter orifice, in a vertical wall of a tank under a constant head of 5.50 m
discharge 0.450 cu.m in 9.5 min. Find the coefficient of discharge.
3. A water tank with diameter 2m. is filled with water. If the water level is 3 m above a
nozzle. If the nozzle has a diameter of 12 mm, what is the discharge rate.

4. Determine the discharge over a trapezoidal weir with the side inclined 14.04 degrees with
the vertical, the head is 0.30 m and the length of the crest is 2 m.
