Class 10 Mathematics Project

Mathematical Study of Arunachal Pradesh

1. Introduction

Arunachal Pradesh, located in the northeastern region of India, is known for its natural beauty,

mountains, rivers, and tribal cultures. Mathematics helps us analyze information about the state

scientifically. In this project, we apply various mathematical concepts such as data handling,

mensuration, coordinate geometry, ratio, percentage, and probability to understand the state's

geographical and demographic structure.

2. Basic Facts About Arunachal Pradesh

• Capital: Itanagar

• Area: 83,743 sq km

• Number of Districts: 28

• Total Population: 15.7 lakh (approx.)

• Major Rivers: Siang, Lohit, Dibang, Subansiri

• Literacy Rate: 65%

3. Data Handling – Detailed Study

We collected population data of 8 major districts as a sample dataset:

Tawang 50, West Kameng 80, East Kameng 78, Papum Pare 180,

Lower Subansiri 85, Upper Siang 35, Changlang 150, Tirap 120.

A. Mean Calculation

Total = 778 thousand, Mean = 97.25 thousand.

B. Median Calculation

Arranged data: 35, 50, 78, 80, 85, 120, 150, 180.
Median = 82.5 thousand.

C. Mode

No repeating data, so no mode.

D. Range

Range = Highest – Lowest = 180 – 35 = 145 thousand.

4. Bar Graph & Interpretation

A bar graph can be drawn to represent district-wise population.

The graph shows that Papum Pare has the highest population, while Upper Siang has the lowest.

5. Pie Chart – Literacy Study

Literate = 65% = 234°

Illiterate = 35% = 126°

This represents educational distribution in the state.

6. Mensuration – Area Conversions

Area of Arunachal Pradesh = 83,743 sq km.

In sq meters = 83,743 × 1,000,000 = 83,743,000,000 sq m.

Perimeter Approximation

If we assume the state roughly as a rectangle of 450 km by 186 km:

Approx. Perimeter = 2(450 + 186) = 1,272 km.

7. Coordinate Geometry – Location Mapping

Let three important locations be plotted as:

A(2,6) = Itanagar

B(10,12) = Tawang
C(14,4) = Changlang

Distances:

AB = 10 units

BC = 10.77 units

CA = 12.16 units

Area using coordinate formula = 32 sq units.

8. Percentages – Population Analysis

Total Population = 15,70,000

Literate = 65% = 10,20,500

Illiterate = 35% = 5,49,500

Tribal Population Analysis

If 68% of population belongs to Scheduled Tribes:

ST Population = 0.68 × 15,70,000 = 10,67,600 people.

9. Ratio and Proportion

Ratio of male to female population (based on sex ratio 938 per 1000):

Male : Female = 1000 : 938

= 1000/938 simplified ≈ 50 : 47

10. Probability – Geography Based

Total districts = 28.

If 10 are eastern mountain districts:

Probability of selecting one = 10/28 = 5/14.

If 5 districts lie near major rivers:

Probability = 5/28.

11. Mathematical Importance

Mathematics supports decision-making in tribal development,

resource distribution, environmental conservation, and population studies.

12. Conclusion

This extended project demonstrates how mathematics helps analyze the geography,

population, literacy, and development of Arunachal Pradesh. Using data handling,

geometry, percentages, and probability, we gain deeper insights into the state's features.
