ABSTRACT

Poor environmental sanitation poses significant threats to public health, environmental quality,

and sustainable development. This study review the major causes and consequences of

unsanitary conditions in communities, highlighting factors such as inadequate infrastructure,

weak governance, socio-cultural practices, rapid urbanization, and climate-related stressors.

Findings show that poor sanitation contributes to widespread waterborne and vector-borne

diseases, environmental degradation, blocked drainages, pollution, and reduced socio-economic

productivity. The study further reveals that lack of awareness, poor waste management, and

insufficient enforcement of sanitation laws worsen the situation. It concludes that improving

environmental sanitation requires strong government policies, community participation, public

health education, sustainable urban planning, and modern waste management technologies to

ensure healthier and cleaner surroundings.
