Sand Bailing Lesson

The document describes three methods to remove sand from a well (CWD-1) with a sand problem: 1) Sand bailing using a slickline unit, 2) Sand bailing using a cavin pump, and 3) Sand washing using drill pipe and bit. Sand bailing with a slickline unit would take the longest (8 days) and cost the most ($60,664). Sand bailing with a cavin pump would take 2 days and cost $13,000. Sand washing could remove all the sand in 1 day but risks damaging the reservoir and would cost $686.

Sand Bailing and Sand Washing Lesson

Lesson
Well CWD-1 (vertical well) has a sand problem,its interval perforation covered by sand that cause oil production decreased. We need to do sand recover until Total Depth so this well can produce oil back normally. Choose which best method if you are an engineer : A. Sand Bailing using Slickline unit B. Sand Bailing using Cavin Pump C. Sand Washing using Bit

*Consider : 1. Time efisiency (calculate) 2. Cost (calculate) 3. Can or cant damage Reservoir condition

Clue
Sand Bailing using Slickline Need : Slickline unit Sand recovered 1 time bailing = 0.01 bbl Estimate Run in Hole (RIH) Slickline string = 2 Hrs Estimate Pull out of Hole (POOH) Slickline string = 2 Hrs 1 x Bailing time = 0.5 Hour Sand Bailing using Cavin Pump Need : Caving Pump & Tubing Sand recovered 1 time bailing = 1 jts tubing 3.5, 9.3 ppf, N-80 Estimate Run in Hole(RIH) Cavin Pump String = 2.5 Hours Pull out of Hole (POOH) Cavin Pump string = 3.5 Hours 1 x Bailing time = 2.5 Hours

Sand Washing Need : KCl Brine, Drill Pipe, Bit Sand recovered 1 time washing = all sand recovered to Total Depth Estimate Run in Hole (RIH) DP string = 4 Hours Pull out of Hole (POOH) DP string =6 Hours 1 x Sand Washing time = 1.5 Hours

Well Data
Total Depth 1072 ft Interval perforation = 980 988 ft Top of Sand (TOS)= 975 ft Capacity vol Casing 7, 26 ppf, K-55 = 0.0383 bbl/ft High Permeability well (lost formation)
Csg 7,26 ppf,K-55

Interval perforation (980-988 ft)

TOS = 975 ft

Total Depth 1072 ft

Others Information
Slickline Price = $1,083/day Rig Cost = $6,500/day KCl Price =$280 1 jts tubing = 30 ft Capacity Vol Tubing 3.5, 9.3 ppf, N-80 = 0.0087 bbl/ft Sand Bailing using slickline unit = Using slickline tools from Service company Sand Bailing using cavin Pump = Using tubing and Cavin pump Sand washing = Using Bit, Drill pipe, KCl (for washing sand/recover to surface)
