WATER USE IN BUILDINGS
Issues:
Buildings Consume 10% of total
Fresh water
Availability of water is fixed,
so in use is the only way to
mitigate the ever increasing
demand.
Portable water is used in
flushing and gardening.
Issues:
WATER EFFICIENCY MEASURES
Reduction in losses
Checking Leakages
Water metering
Reduction in consumption
Using water efficient domestic
appliances.
Water efficient faucets in toilets
Leakage in supply lines
Water conservation in landscape
Native plant species
Efficient irrigation systems
Schedule for watering
Water reuse and conservation
Reduce use of portable water for non portable applications
Install duel plumbing line for fresh and treated water
Harvest rain water
Drip irrigation
Rain Water Harvesting
WATER CONSERVATION IN LANDSCAPE
Storm water collection through
drain with decorative water
catchment area.
Runoff from a parking lot
is returned to the ground
via a rain garden.
WATER CONSERVATION IN LANDSCAPE
Porous paving allows
rainwater to infiltrate.
Another way to make paving
pervious.
Dont pave the ground
completely!
WATER CONSERVATION IN LANDSCAPE
Native treesLow water consumer
Micro climate supportive
Reduce turf area
Mulching

Conclusion
Water conservation is the most important issue of the present time. We need to
be aware of choosing plants and shrubs when designing landscape of any site.
The architects, Designers, Planners should incorporate these techniques in the
buildings and spread awareness to use of water conservation techniques.
